  • I think it is a fair question, why you aren't improving your endurance. Everybody's different but for a young person like yourself, running at a moderate pace, 170 bpm does seem high. When you stop exercising, does your heart rate drop quickly or does it take longer than say your friend's heart rate to decline?
  • ^^^^^ Age: 23 'Nuff said Oldtimers can't get away with this.
  • I respectfully disagree. Squats and dead on the same day are fine for a beginner. I have set PRs for both on the same day. I agree on 3X5 but would squat every day, even if you aren't adding weight to the bar every day. BUT, I think what I have learned is that you need to tailor programs such as Stronglifts to a degree so…
  • I had the same issue. Like it or not, age has an impact on recovery. We both have a 4 at the front of our age. That makes a difference. I would be willing to bet that if you looked at the Stronglifts demographics they are skewed to the young bucks. All you have to do is look at the testimonials, which are riddled with…
  • My Dearly Beloved rented her dress and based on the responses here, sounds like that was the right call! Far nicer dress than we could afford at the time as well.
  • Respectfully disagree. A good spin class has you out of the saddle for a large part of the class and you are definitely working your abs when you are not seated.
  • If you send him to the rigs he'll come back with his jeans stuffed with cash and probably a new unhealthy habit or two. Not recommended.
  • OP: Your frustration comes through in your post. After I laughed my *kitten* off at all the posters who thought you were serious about "hating" your son, I thought that I would provide a bit of advice. Unfortunately your son is slipping through the cracks. In this day and age, futzing about with just getting your high…
  • Just switched to an iPhone 5 after owning a Blackberry or precursor since 1998 (yes, 1998). Looked hard at the SIII as several work colleagues have them and like them. Ultimately, it came down to the fact that I have had an iPad since they came out and love the interface. Going to the iPhone 5 was a concern because I found…
  • Couldn't dream of benching more than my squat. I'm pretty typical: DL>Squat>BP Skinny upper body, okay legs. I'm 25lbs away from a bodyweight bench which would be an awesome end of year achievement but the squat should be still comfortably above that.
  • I have had the same issue and had success by applying a topical mild antibiotic cream to the infected area and then covering with a bandaid. You need to do this three times per day and it took me a week to get over it. You have to watch carefully that the infection is not spreading after you start using the ointment…
  • ^^^^^ This When I was losing weight, I was careful in logging food and exercise on MFP. I set my goals to lose 1 lb/week and lifted 3X/week, cardio 1X per week. I lost the weight twice as fast (i.e. 2 lbs/wk) than MFP would have indicated. But, you really have to push yourself with the weight, at least that is what worked…
  • Rightfully or wrongfully, I think that running against traffic triggers a more aggressive response in cyclists than running with the traffic would. I don't know why, it just does, at least for me. Now my annoyance is usually because they are running on the asphalt rather than the cement sidewalk to save their knees, but…
  • Can't you go do something useful like count paperclips? 16 freakin' posts by you on one of the single most inane subjects I've seen on MFP. Congratulations.
  • In all seriousness, try eating more. You need a calorie surplus to add weight on the bar once your neuromuscular system has adapted. I am doing this now and it seems to be working. Not a crazy surplus but a surplus nonetheless. I should add that this assumes grip strength is not an issue.
  • Some flexible people, usually women, can hyperextend their lower back at the bottom of the squat. Not rounding the back but the other way, so to speak. Here's a vid, of a guy as it happens, who has this issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FwtB2Zplelo This may be an issue for you. I agree, have yourself filmed to see if…
  • Well if you have been reloading then it looks like you've been pushing yourself for sure. To add a bit of variety, I do the SL workout for that day and then usually some ab work, pull-ups, shrugs, curls etc. but I leave those until the end so I'm not too tired to do the SL stuff.
  • Great results and very interesting connection with MS and lifting. This was news to me. Looks like you both are really working hard to be active together for many, many years to come! Awesome.
  • Not sure how pushing yourself to set new PR's every time is boring. I am usually scared silly before the attempt. Have you needed to deload on any lifts yet?
  • This is a really tough one becuase you want your niece to have a good relationship with food. I think that the way to go is to gently encourage healthier eating choices if there is some room for improvement. Explain that soda isn't a great choice and that includes the stuff that is made to sound healthy ("contains REAL…
  • If you are doing Stronglifts, the weight will get challenging in the not-too-distant future for you. It's a great beginner program. I do it and have really enjoyed the progressive nature of the program. Plus it is so simple to do and you can usually sneak in some extra stuff at the end if you have any gas left in the tank…
  • Easy to focus on the pecs. The guy just doesn't have a beefy build. But I see well developed obliques and the biceps are fine as well. After all, the guy isn't pumped and posing, he's just standing there.
  • If you are able to maintain your current weight but add muscle and reduce body fat over the next year, that would be a significant accomplishment, although probably doable for somebody your age. But...you need to hit the gym. The muscle doesn't just happen. You may also find that the next 20 lbs will be harder than the…
  • What a ridiculous comment! If you look carefully (for example his traps) the guy is actually in pretty good shape. But to link a blog with the title "anorexic ripped" is beyond the pale.
  • It is quite clear why the women aren't voting for the ectos. They don't like being with men who are prettier than they are!
  • Pretty simple way to get rid of him based on your profile: You're married.
  • Don't have quite the same violent thoughts but I definitely size up the guys who are about the same age/fitness level to see how many pullups they can do and of course if it is more than me, they must be kipping. I would stack it up to competitiiveness. Granny isn't a threat so no competitive juices flowing there.
  • If you think their stuff is overpriced you probably haven't owned a piece of their clothing for any length of time. Holds up remarkably well year after year. Always looks brand new.
  • If LuLu thinks it can make money at it, they will sell more plus size merchandise. It is probably a question of inventory management, which hasn't always been the company's strong suit (and acknowledged publlicly by senior management).
  • Look, you are an active healthy young person who has been eating right for years. If only there were more of you the healthcare system (that is the guys who profit from poor health) would be in real trouble. I work with a bunch of engineers and I have an M.Sc. so we are all pretty quant but I would say carry on young lady…
