  • I just hit my goal - 150lbs - lost 100lbs in 9 months..... and no, I am not satisfied nor am I happy with how I look. I don't know if I ever will be. Like our bariatric team tells us, weight loss is more mental than it is physical. Boy were they right. Personally, I think that once we reach our physical goals we must then…
  • also, do coconut oil hair masks! massage (liquified) coconut oil into your scalp before you go to sleep and leave it in overnight.... it will keep hair strong and super healthy and will decrease thinning, breaking and split ends!
  • Biotin does not help your hair grow. It helps to STRENGTHEN the hair shaft and nourish the follicles on your scalp. I started losing hair about 3 months out and it stopped around the 8 month mark. I started biotin and it really helped with the appearance of my thinning hair and it has become a lot healthier, shinier and…
  • some of the healthiest foods out there are carbohydrate loaded - chickpeas, other forms of beans, grains like quinoa and lentils, vegetables, fruits, hell even yogurt and dairy products (except cheese, NOM!).... as my dietician told me, "your focus is MINIMUM of 60g of protein per day, don't worry about the other stats…
  • I am 9 months post-RNY..........and I get hungry every 2 hours. In fact, I eat every 2 hours. I eat way more frequently now than I did pre-surgery, however, I eat significantly less.....and eat very very healthy!
  • wow. really? ^^^^^ I try to net 25g of carbs every meal and snack, so I have about 150g a day, or more. I HAVE to because I suffer severely from recative hypoglycemic symptoms and the carbs release the energies and everything more slowly, helping to sustain normal sugar levels. Sugars...I don't really count. Sugars are in…
  • I am 9 months out and eat between 1300 and 1400 a day. I don't eat back what I burn, either, so I net about 600-800 a day on vigorous workout days and 900-1100 on not so vigorous days.
  • I wore control top hose all day on Christmas with no issues! I've been wearing them for a couple months now, since the cooler weather started in October. Everyone is different. :)
  • If I lose 52lbs.................I will be 100lbs! LOL!!! Not going to happen my friend, sorry!
  • ohhhh, the first time I had broccoli, I wanted to cry myself to my death!!! The gas it induced was horrendous!!!! I can eat it fine no problem now.... I have learned that....... and forgive me if this doesn't make sense, but after surgery we become so intolerant to foods, and swear off foods, and avoid certain foods like…
  • I had that - it was an abscess! I now still get sharp shooting "pouch pains" on my lower left side when I have over-exerted myself, stretched the pouch the wrong way or overeaten. Good luck to ya!
  • What was said above, up your calories, fats, carbs and protein. Also, if you tend to eat the same things every day (like I do for periods at a time), change your diet up. I get on kicks on things for weeks at times... currently on sweet & sour veggie "meatball" quick with tofu noodles. I've eaten it everyday for dinner for…
  • I do eat the pop chips, rice chips, veggie straws/skinny stix, Beanitos...... I also don't eat low-fat or fat-free cheese very often, same with my Greek yogurt - in fact, I make it a point to buy Greek yogurt with at least 2% MF in it..... I don't like watered down dairy and/or soggy, weird tasting cheese. Plus, when it's…
  • If you feel you are ready to move on to the next stage - move on! That's what my NUT and surgeon told me..... I was on solids about 6-7 weeks out - but no crunchy solids. It took a long time for me to work up to crunchy foods. Try shirataki noodles, baked sweet potatos, make your own dips/hummus, mash some cauliflower…
  • Hey darlin' - I was diagnosed with this about 2 months ago. I was experiencing terrible heart palpitations, bad sweats, dizziness, nauseous, headaches, weakness, serious hunger pains..... I've had to increase my carbs to (net) 125g a day, more if possible. I had to increase my calories to 1300-1400 and increase sugars, as…
  • I am the exact opposite: always hot, hot, HOT and sweating!!!!!!!!
  • nice muscular arms! :) nevermind, awesome hair! :)
  • 8:00 a.m. - nexium (was on it daily for years pre-surgery and it is not required post-surgery, but I am terrified of developing an ulcer, so I still take it religiously every day!) 10:30 a.m. - pre-natal vitamin and vitamin B12 (again, not required to take the B12 post-surgery, however, I am vegetarian and lacking in my…
  • My NUT and dietician told me not to even worry about caloric intake but, rather, to worry about protein needs instead. At 6 months, I was eating between 1000-1200 a day.... and now being almost 9 months out, I around the 1200-1300 mark. The odd day I can put back 1400 or so............. but those are days I have worked out…
  • Thank you everyone, for you suggestions and advice. My bariatric team at the hopsital offers a support group once a month, so I will be attending the next meeting, and I made an appointment to start seeing someone. The social worker thought I needed a psychologist as the depression and anxiety were out of her scope. Here's…
  • keep me posted - in the meantime, maybe cut out all ulcer-inducing foods such as caffeine!
  • Lee - you told my story. I, too, was called an anorexic the other day and that I have the mindset of one, constantly obsessing about foods, preparing food, cooking food, but not eating very much. It's so hurtful. My boyfriend wants to me to go to a support group, as well, but since losing the majority of my friends........…
  • I, too, developed an infected ulcer 3 weeks out. I was home from the hospital for 17 days and was right back in for 5.... I was placed on heavy duty antibiotics and the doctors were able to get rid of it without the need for a second surgery (which was a high possibility while I was in). No problems with them since!
  • YOGA, YOGA, YOGA honestly - it tones even the hardest of muscle and body parts. and, if you can, PILATES! and, of course, weight train.
  • I cannot eat ANY form of lettuce (unless you count baby spinach) since my surgery in March. I get dumping and insane cramping and shooting pain. I was told lettuce is extremely hard to break down, even for people who don't have a pouch, bue due to the fact that I don't "use" stomach acids anymore, the lettuce cannot be…
  • When I was getting hiccups, my doctor said it was related to syncopy and I was re-admitted and found to have an abscess....and this was 3 weeks post-surgery. I'd get it checked out to be safe. I haven't had hiccups since the abscess was drained, come to think of it.
  • oh my gosh, I am so so so so sorry to hear this! I agree though - you really only hear of the good, never of the bad. I was terrified of something terrible like this happening as someone I know whose friend had the surgery passed away on the operating table during the surgery. I hope she will be okay - please keep us…
  • Congrats ladies!!! I'm down 90lbs in 8 months... still losing.... still not able to eat meat or lettuce or white potatoes/bread or any form of pasta at all. I loooooooove my eggs now after being on hiatus from them for a while. It does get better, although sometimes, it definitely does not feel like it!
  • Another thing - I was just recently diagnosed with the reactive hypoglycemia noted above..... which is why I was "prescribed" an increase in carbs. 150g+ a day. Seems like a lot......... but I started dropping weight fast again since I started doing that and I haven't had very many episodes.
