  • I can't eat tilapia (which is almost exclusively farm raised, from what I understand) after having seen the Dirty Jobs episode that revealed that it's a poo fish. On most farms raising tilapia, they raise non-tilapia fish in the pools, move them to another pool, then send in the tilapia to clean up after them by eating the…
  • ^^^ This! It has created not only lactose intolerance, but pasteurization and homogenization (from what I've been given to understand) allow dairy fats to clog our arteries in abundance in comparison to non-pasteurized/homogenized.
  • I often poach chicken - it comes out so nicely juicy and tender!
  • I enter my recipes at RecipeZaar aka Food.com and it shows you the nutritional info. It's free and you can share your recipes with others. :)
  • Alcohol when you're working on nutrition is generally a bad idea for many reasons. 1) avoiding the empty calories... need I say more? 2) our bodies respond to alcohol by wanting MORE alcohol 3) it dehydrates our systems 4) it can destroy the beneficial bacteria in our intestinal tracts. You can boost it back up with…
  • One of the greatest dangers in canned soups is the BPA. We don't get canned soup at all anymore, but only get it in the paper-packed boxes. It's more expensive, but having BPA out of the picture is worth it. Do an online search for "BPA canned soups" and you'll see what I mean.
  • One of my goals in losing weight is simply this: I would like to be pretty. I've never really been pretty, and have spent my overweight adult life as a rather butch cute woman. I think I've been afraid all my life to go for pretty. That being said, recently I've begun looking at ways to feel comfortably girly. :) For the…
  • That being said... I love that there are great "leftovers" that are healthy to use! Both the juice and the leftovers are useful... just make sure you use them both! (The leftovers from carrot juice can make fabulous carrot cake/muffins and if you're inventive great additions to soup and casseroles and and and... yum!)
  • Watched it, was very inspired. Got myself a juicer, started juicing, even began a video blog of what I thought would start me off on a great journey. Thing is... juicing fasts are extreme. I'm diabetic, and I knew (altho wasn't willing to admit) that juicing wasn't good for me and my health. What it came down to was that…
  • Whenever I'm looking for recipes, I go to RecipeZaar... which is now Food.com (http://www.food.com/). Generally has better recipes than Allrecipes (fewer "add a couple cans of cream of mushroom soup"), has reviews, and most helpful for some of us, nutritional breakdown. I love lentils, myself. :) What kind of lentils did…

  • Plain Fage and Chobani are what we get. Yum!
  • I like soy butter and usually have it instead of pb, but I've found I like sunflower seed butter even more!
  • There's so much darn salt in some processed foods (I love soup!) that seeing my recent ratios had me concerned. Just this morning I went looking for info... And am now wondering about it even more, because there are conflicting reports about sodium. Have you guys seen these or similar articles? Low salt intake also linked…
  • I forgot to mention that I'm a big fan of GeekGirlCon, which took place for the first time this last fall in Seattle. Lots of inspirational geeky women! I am hoping to get some health focus into the convention, show people that geek women can and ARE beautiful and not just quirky. :) If you'd like more info about the con,…
  • Thank you for posting the group, much appreciated! :) I joined it and hope to chat more with you all. As I posted in the intro thread over there, I'm Julie/Julesong and am a casual gamer but overall big geek. :) I mostly play WoW. I have a 360 and don't yet have a Kinnect although I will get one in the future simply for…
  • Hi! I'm Julie/Julesong and am a casual gamer but overall big geek. :) I mostly play WoW. I have a 360 and don't yet have a Kinnect although I will get one in the future simply for the physical activity games. Big into scifi/fantasy books, writing, television, movies... especially Firefly. Literally I'm a huge Browncoat. :)
  • Now there's an idea! Think I'll get one of those today, for sure. :)
