You can never go wrong with switching to free weights, dear ;D like what the guys said. Go light first and practice your form. And read about form (Starting Strength by Mark Rippetoe is highly reccomended) if you're really uncertain. Get someone to spot you too :D

heart rate monitors are really useful :D i think it would be a great tool to have to see if you're hitting your target heart rate and really see how much calories you're burning. I wonder the same thing!!!! I'm guessing because since we're burning calories we're losing heat because calories are heat energies. Therefore when we're losing energy we're also losing heat hence the feeling of feeling cold? LOL idk just a thought.

How painful is it? Maybe you're running on it weird and it's putting too much impact on your knees.
