  • I ride 8.65 miles each way, takes me 35 minutes in city traffic. After a couple of years, I destroyed a couple of cheap mountain bikes and my thighs! So I found a retro ten-speed Schwinn Le Tour II on Craigslist for $200. I replaced the aluminum rims (city roads tore them up) for cheap but sturdy entry-level racing rims,…
  • "Get off my tail, butthead!" - Girls Just Wanna Have Fun "Does Barry Manilow know you raided his wardrobe?" - Breakfast Club From the (older) hubster: "Do I got 6 bullets or 5, punk?" - Dirty Harry "That's a pretty [freaking] good milkshake. I don't know if it's worth 5 dollars but it's pretty [freaking] good." - Pulp…
  • Definitely. But I do think it's more of a class / maturity issue than a genetic one. In my naive growing-up years, I've been burned before by guys with alterior motives who turned out to have more respect for their man parts than for me. Classy people who respect the other person can develop a great friendship & keep their…
  • lime & chili powder-covered crickets. more crackly than tasty. ¡viva la méxico!
  • Me too. As a descendant from Germans, I think God manufactured my blood with it. Oh, and jalapeños/serranos.... good thing those aren't bad for me!
  • Agreed. On a side note, I'd also have to add that communication is only as effective as it's heard. So hurling insulting "observations" at some people will be far less effective than throwing the same words & tones at others, and less than half the time would it really ever have been helpful to better the world anyway.
  • i'd agree to a degree. it *should* bother my SO if i would go thru such a drastic change to throw my self-confidence out the window & begin a self-destructive process like forfeiting & neglecting my health. i also would have to think that it would change my personal happiness, which in turn would definitely affect our…
  • ...hey wait a minute, isn't this an ozzy osbourne song?? ... you, looking at me, looking at you ...
  • me too, but free will too... we're all parts of the great watch working its magic. i can't choose to fly cuz i have to abide by the laws of gravity & the fact i was born with arms not wings. it'd be nice but pixie dust doesn't exist either. so in the meantime, i have no choice but to hold a deep honor & respect for that…
  • if it breaks you two, then the love never went very deep. love is an outward motion, not a game of checks & balances.
  • Hope this doesn't sound freakishly bizarre, but I want to get to my goal weight before I have kids. Wanted to be married for a bit first anyway, so it works out... but I'm also 32 and the clock's tickin! But shoot, y'all have great ideas on here... def need to think of some hardcore bonuses for the journey, what great…
  • If y'all are tall, then I must be extra-tall (-; I'm 6'0" and 205, trying to get to 165 but I've never been there, so let's see how far I can go and be healthy! Here are a couple of pics: in the white gown, taken August 18, 2012 in the purple gown, taken December 17, 2012 See, I need to be much fitter... just picked up a…
  • Holy crap you are my people!! I'm 6'0" and looking to get to 165... started at 285 and now have 40lbs to go! I wear a shoe size 12... But hey, to the gal who started the thread- I used to wear a women's 13 shoe, when i was 285... don't get too discouraged, as you lose weight, you'll drop shoe sizes too! i can't wait till i…
  • lol!!! i'll bet it gives the same after-effects q-;
  • Yep! But now that I save calories, I spend more coin on getting quality coffee, now that I can taste it and all... When I don't have the option (somebody offers me Folgers or my Mexican mom-in-law gives me Nescafé), I can't help but doctor it to cover up the nasty... but those times are few & far between. When making my…
  • Hey all, I need this timeframe / kick-in-the-butt! Great idea! Plus it'll be my first Valentine's Day with a husband (-: Current Weight: 204 lbs Height: 6'0" Age: 32 Location: Chicago Happy for VDC requests (-:
  • this is great advice. i've been in your shoes almost exactly as i've seen both my sister & my husband make horrible personal choices to pack on pounds and feel worse and worse about themselves. i can't preach because i'm on my own journey, but i'm not emotionally scarred anymore (key word) from people pointing out that i…
  • that's a double bump...
  • Awesome, I put that *kitten* on everything... But try it with Tapatio... it was made for plain popcorn, I swear! Of course, booze makes everything taste better tho...
  • You ppl are pure awesomeness. Thanks for the encouragement; this is the routine I'm trying to pick up- just sticking to a daily commitment, and will increase activity levels & cals as I journey on. "It's a marathon, not a race," as they say, and that's the long haul I'm looking for. Just ordered the book Starting Strength…
  • great post!!! & u are quite the prolific writer, making us all tear up over here! keep up chasing those dreams! GREAT JOB!!!!!
  • wow u all are amazing!!! and thank u so much for these posts, this is exactly what i needed to hear! it's not about the quantity of the digits on the scale, but the quality. thanks!
  • giardinera :-p.........
  • Have to agree here... I'm a 6'0" chick & can see my ribs, and still could when I was 285lbs- they just stuck out more back then. Funny thing, they shrink as I do, and my girth responds to my fitness level. So when I'm overweight, I don't just have a big belly, I get bigger all over- ribs, shoulders, and all... yes this…
  • i've never carried fat between my heels & calves either... when i was pushing 300lbs in college, my calves were still cut-looking but definitely bigger. i'm 100# under that now, and my calves are still ripped, but smaller cuz they're carrying around a smaller body. i hope when i drop another 50# my thighs will slim down…
  • This is hugely helpful info for me... I feel the same oddness when I have mega workout days and have to make myself suffer the hunger pains on light or off-days... I'm definitely going to look up this TDEE stuff people keep talking about, thanks!
  • ^^ bump this ^^ I'm still soul-searching on this issue too...
  • I got a free zippered wrist pouch from one of my 5k races, has a key ring attached inside. I slide it up to the back of my elbow & don't feel a thing. If you Google "banjees" you'll find a bunch of wristbands with zippered pouches sewn into them.... http://www.heartratemonitorsusa.com/spwrwa.html http://www.mybanjees.com…
