    I don't believe in fate either. I was having this discussion with a friend of mine recently - she'd read this book that said reincarnation is real and sanctioned within Christianity but the person's life was predetermined at birth. That makes no sense to me because I believe more in a butterfly effect sort of life where every decision, small or large, can change how the rest of your life goes. Sort of along the same lines of making your own fate. Nothing is predetermined, you make your life however you choose. I would never believe someone is born to be a rock star or born to be a bum on the street. Things happen based on our character, our upbringing and those coincidental meetings in life.

    As far as love goes, I don't know so much about knowing you're going to marry someone when you first meet them... I think a lot of that goes with the hindsight is 20/20 principal. At the time, did they really honestly believe they'd marry him the first time they met him? They thought he was cute and funny and sexy but they didn't know anything about him and whether he was really marriage material. It's easy to say a few years later that it was "destiny". Look, I was pretty crazy about Hubs within 2 weeks of meeting him and still am but I would never call that love at first sight. The only thing I will say is that I had a feeling from the beginning that he was very "familiar" but I never thought that was fate, just something I was happy about. You meet who you meet and you make of it what you want.

    No, I believe in a loving God, and I choose to surrender my life to His plans for me. Such peace when I am not in control.

    I think there is a certain % of predestination, but how you make that journey is what can change.

    Sort of. There is a awful lot we cannot control in life, and some of those things are determined by the circumstances of one's birth. This doesn't mean one can't overcome the circumstances they have been forced to deal with, it is just extremely difficult, and the vast majority don't move beyond their station in life to become something great.

    I believe we all create our own fate. Especially in regards to relationships. The "one", ends up being the person you decided to love no matter what. Relationships are hard work. Always. When they work, it's because both people made a choice to love the other 100% every day.

    me too, but free will too... we're all parts of the great watch working its magic. i can't choose to fly cuz i have to abide by the laws of gravity & the fact i was born with arms not wings. it'd be nice but pixie dust doesn't exist either. so in the meantime, i have no choice but to hold a deep honor & respect for that Watchmaker who put me here to be a part of this great world at this place & time in history.

    on that note, i have to believe the Watchmaker also keeps the energy of all the parts working. life being alive. time passing. energy is huge. i am made up of energy. i can throw an energy into a room with my spirit & change the course of things. that energy has also been proven to permit cancers into the body. holocaust victims could simply will themselves to die. relationships are made up of energy we put into them. but i don't have a relationship with someone in thailand i've never met.

    free will dances under the music divine providence plays.

    If you believe that everything is fated then where is the personal accountability?

    I am spiritual, and believe in a God, but I don't think anything is foretold or fated. I believe our original sin is really free will and we choose our destiny (to most degrees) fate would be a coincidence meeting from choices

    hmm... I believe in fate, to an extent. I definitely believe in karma. and I also think a persons actions lead them to where they are. I believe people have to live thru their karma before getting their fate. and yes, we all have done something that would bring karma to us.. no one is perfect.

    No - I don't believe in fate, destiny, karma, magic, Divine providence, "the one" or any of that sort of stuff.

    Even free will is probably an illusion.

    All that is left is personal responsibility.
