  • well done. You're doing great! Re your food choices I'd say your protein is definitely too low and you could do with some more fresh vegetables in there :-)
  • I've been told that my natural calorie burn is 40-60 calories an hour, so I tend to subtract 50 from my work out cals for that reason. I know most people don't bother but if you eat back your exercise cals and want to be precise it is probably advisable.
  • Hi all, Recently diagnosed with Hashimoto thyroiditis. Been battling with weight for years. I dropped 47lbs last year, but was following extremely low cal/carb eating plan. After 7 months weight stopped dropping and I started suffering with dizzyness and extreme lethargy and I've been at a plateau ever since. Have tried…
  • White basmati rice contains 195 cals per 180 grams of steamed rice. Indian restaurant portions are often much bigger than 180 grams.
  • I love Indian food and have it quite often. The best option is tandoori or tikka–chicken (1 tandoori thigh 230 cals) (5 piece s of tikka 180 cals). These are both dry dishes, just the meat marinated in spice and baked in the tandoor oven. Avoid the rice or go for half a portion of steamed rice. Biryani and other types are…
  • I'm not sure that upping your cardio will work. Something else maybe hindering you. I started going to the gym regularly a year ago, initially an hour every other day. I quickly upped it to an hour a day and in the first 5 months I lost 40 pounds. Then the weight loss stopped. I have not lost any weight since Dec despite…
  • It's really hard to know whether that is accurate for you. Everyone is different. Depends on your weight, height, resting heart rate, workout intensity and how long you've been spinning. 600 calories an hour is possible but if you've been spinning a while, your fitness levels are good, and your resting heart rate is low…
  • Yes. 47 down about another 50 x to go. add me.
  • I have a 36 FF and I work out 2 hours per day. Having large breasts is a challenge for most types of sports-they get in the weigh, bounce up and down and like you said they weigh us down! But it is possible to be really active and to lose weight. I have lost 47 pounds and I'm about half way to my goal. As for the boobs…
  • My fiance is French–born in Paris. He wooed me 5 years ago with promises of a romantic trip to his city of birth. Last month that promise finally came true. He took me to Paris wined me, dined me and whipped out a spectacular diamond at the top of the Eiffel Tower at dusk! Soooo romantic :-)
  • Sounds too high to me. it's unusual for anyone to burn more than 800 calories in an hour. My stats are similar to yours and i burn around 550 calories on elliptical trainer in an hour. I do the warm up and cool down no number 7 and the other 50 minutes on number 12. I use a Polar FT4 HRM.
  • Update as promised. Just finished a one hour class and according to my HRM I burned 448 calories. This is pretty much what I expected. I jumped for all the jumps and was dripping with sweat to the point that I could literally ring my vest out at the end. Amazing that some people can burn 800 plus, but I know I can't.
  • Thank you for the advice. I love nuts, so will give that a go.
  • Same as you. I've stalled since upping my weights and doing pump class 3 times a week. However, still see body improvements, just scales not moving. I have faith that they will go down though, maybe once my body adapts to the extra lifting and calories etc.
  • I just got a Polar FT4. It is really easy to set up and use and does everything you say you want.

  • According to the lady I spoke to tea does not have the same affect. She said it is not the caffeine that reacts with the hormones but something else in the coffee. That scuppered my plan of moving onto decaf!
  • Oh my god, I will be well stoked if my HRM says I burn anything like the calories you ladies seem to be able to burn in Zumba! Tomorrow's class can't come soon enough!
  • I Spin 4 times a week. 2 of the classes are 45 mins, and 2 are an hour. I burn 450 in an hour. I have been Spinning 4 times a week for quite some time though, so maybe my body has adjusted. I work hard, drip with sweat and go full pelt, with resistance up, but I struggle to get my heart rate over 145. My resting heart rate…
  • The body fat increase is interesting. I love coffee, but I just drink one a day. I recently went to see a nutritionist about getting some hormone tests done and she advised me to drink no coffee what so ever for the month leading up to the tests. She said it doesn't affect everyone but it can cause a hormone imbalance in…
  • I would have thought around 400 calories for an hours class is about right. I have only just started using a HRM and haven't used it in Zumba yet (Class is tomorrow) But I have used it in Step, Body Conditioning, Spin and Aerobics. I burn between 350-450 calories during an hours class and I work pretty hard. I am…
  • I've added you both. Anyone else feel free to add me too.
  • Thank you all for your contributions. I'm taking it all on board. I've bought a heart rate monitor to train with and I'm going to gradually increase my calories over the next couple of months. Weigh day tomorrow. Interested to see if the 4lbs of water or whatever it was has gone. I had a couple of days off the training as…
  • Hi Brenda, Thank you for your comment. I did a sodium breakdown last week and it was quite low. I have been wandering if I should be upping my sodium as I sweat out so much in the gym, but I don't think low sodium levels can cause a plateau? With regards to the pedometer, I do pump and spin class most days and Zumba, power…
  • Don't be silly, I don't find you blunt at all. I asked for peoples opinion because I want to hear it! I think I have eaten so little for so long that I really have no idea what is 'normal' anymore. I'm sure my body is all over the place. I have never considered eating the exercise calories, as that seems to defeat the…
  • Yes, you're right I should step off the scales. But I'm scared that I'll get rid of the scales and all the weight will pile back on! I'm going to ask my boyfriend to hide them, at least for 2 weeks and see how I go.
  • Ugh, the scales are my enemy. I want to weigh myself once a week, but I get obsessed and can't stay off them. I go through phases sometimes I can stick to once a week, but if I don't see a loss then I work out more and more and keep weighing myself, once or twice a day, desperately wanting to see them go down. They haven't…
  • I live in Sussex. Would love some UK friends on here.
  • Thank you for sharing your story! I'm in the same boat as you at the minute. I work out 2 hours a day, 5 days a week plus I swim at the weekend, but the scales are not going down! So disheartening, but my body is improving every day. I too am fitting into things that I wore when I was 20lbs lighter than I am now. Now just…
  • Hello, I've been using mfp for a few months but never looked into the community before. I've lost 45lbs since Sep (22lbs since using mfp) I'm about half way to were I want to be. But despite lots of exercise and following diet plan I've plateaued for over 6 weeks now. Feel free to add me. I'm not sure how this all works…
