  • I just explained why nuts are overated as a snack and gave you research based evidence to support this position. You counter with satiety/overconsumption not being related to the original question. A vast majority of people on this site are seeking weight/fat loss, correct? Fat loss is dependent on a caloric deficit,…
  • Yep, that claim has been disproven.
  • That was just an example, I regularly eat both :)
  • This is correct. There is no evidence to suggest that consumption of large amounts of protein can be dangerous...unless you have kidney disease.
  • I don't eat breakfast. I am simply not hungry in the morning. Not eating breakfast has not made a negative impact on my physique or performance in the gym.
  • Nevermind, the answer is no big deal. Increased protein (as long as your calories stay the same) has been shown to have a greater weight loss effect. Protein is more thermogenic than carbohydrate or fat, more satiating (filling), and may have other benefits as well. One gram per pound of bodyweight is usually recommended…

  • 24 grams or 24 calories?

  • The short answer is yes. Amino acids derived from protein can be converted into glucose via gluconeogenesis. Glucose that is stored as glycogen attaches to 3-4 grams of water. For example if you eat 50 g of carbohydrate you will hold onto 150-200 g of water. However, unless you are eating a low carbohydrate diet, are in a…
  • The OP had requested proteins with no artificial sweetners, such as sucralose or aspartame.
  • Try truenutrition.com. You can pick stevia as your sweetener and save money by buying in bulk. I have no financial interest in this company, but I do personally purchase and use their products and am satisfied with the results.
  • So what? Research as well as anecdotal evidence suggests that high fat foods (including nuts) tend to be not very satiating and easy to overeat (especially when palatability is increased by salt or other seasonings). Hence my opinion that nuts tend to be overated as a weight loss food. On top of that, volume of food has…
  • Recovery is far more dependent on meeting your macronutrient goals for the day rather than trying to use a complex pre/peri/post workout regimen. You can meet your goals without having to complicate life :)
  • It depends on what your basal metabolic rate is and how much non-exercise activity you are doing. There are many calculators online to find out this information.
  • How often do you exercise? What type of exercise do you do?
  • I disagree. This is completely dependent on your insulin sensitivity. As someone that is lean and exercises, I often eat more carbs than is recommended and less fat. I found that the "Paleoish" High fat/low carb approach didn't suit me well in my goals. However, it may be a great choice for others.
  • My favorites are potatoes or rice for carbs. If you eat dairy, whey protein can be a good recovery aid. If not, Tuna, tilapia, halibut, salmon, etc. are excellent protein sources.
  • I agree. Not only are these shakes unnecessary, but liquid calories are not as filling as whole foods and when you are dieting you definitely want to keep hunger low.

  • Why not just eat the whole fruit or vegetable? It is much more filling.

  • Nuts are overrated as a snack. They are calorie dense and can send you over your fat goal with just a few handfuls. "Although fat doesn't make you fat" as someone stated, but excess calories do make you fat and nuts are a easy way to put you over your calorie goal. I would limit your intake to 1-2 small handfuls/day. It…
  • Stick to 1lb/week. 2lbs would be a very uncomfortable deficit for someone that close to their goal weight. This would make the individual more vulnerable to binging due to extreme hunger.
  • Yes, I no longer have hip pain. I would start by reducing your running frequency and running volume for several weeks and add some foam rolling to your routine. Roll your IT bands, quads, hams, and adductors. Use a tennis ball for your glutes and piriformis. Check youtube for examples of these exercises.
  • "Toning" is simply a buzz word the fitness industry uses to describe fat loss. If you lose fat you will increase the visibility of muscle. For example, if you look at my avatar you can see my abs are "toned" but I never train abs, they were already there. All I had to do was lower my body fat and my abs started to take on…

  • I had hip pain as well. The only thing that relieved it was to stop doing the activity that was aggravating it. So if it hurts when your doing the activity, stop doing the activity (at least until the inflammation subsides).
