I also have hypothyroidism. I'm working on a gluten free and soy free diet because I hear it helps. Feel free to friend me if you want to compare notes on diet and endocrine issues.

Hello, ladies. I currently have a hundred forty pounds to lose. I've used my fitness pal on and off for the past several years. I've had success, but then I lose motivation. Would love to have accountability partners. I do the best I can, and I do use nutritional shakes to help me keep on track since I have a lot of weight…

That is the main reason I returned to my fitness pal. I know that a low-carb diet is best, and I know that this program will help me to track. I'm also gradually going gluten-free, reduced Dairy, and contemplating grain-free. Thanks for the advice.

Well, at least it was only a one-month supply.

Yes, I have an endocrinologist appointment in two months that I made two months ago. The vitamins are a way to get by until that appointment since my old endocrinologist refuses to give me a Synthroid refill since I ask to use diet instead of Victoza to manage PCOS since I am not insulin resistant and would prefer not to…

Yeah, I suspected it. I bought a month's supply because I had been advised that it would help me manage my PCOS and hypothyroidism. The first time I tried it, I got bad headaches and stopped. I thought about giving it another try since I have the product anyway, but then thought I should get some feedback before I do so…

Do not let yourself get too excited by people's posts. I understand that people interpreting your subject line "metabolism has stopped"too literally may be frustrating, but for the most part, people have been offering advice based on their own experiences. I achieve the best results when I weigh / measure foods…

You definitely should make an appointment to see your doctor and discuss your issue with him/her. The doctor will have insight into whether it is related to your current medical conditions or something else. You may also want to be tested for hypothyroidism or subclinical hypothyroid. I felt absurdly tired and slept all…

Congratulations moms-to-be. Like OP, I am overweight and 8-weeks pregnant. My nutritionist has recommended a 1400 daily diet to encourage weight loss in the first trimester, but she also stressed that food quality and food balance (carbohydrate with a protein or a healthy fat) was more important than food quantity. She…

Although I agree with posters who assert that the medications OP typically took for migraines will not derail the weight loss process, I also understand hesitancy to take them. Excedrin Migraine, which is my typical go-to medication, alleviates the migraine but has some less-than-desirable side effects like feeling…

It seems like a wise idea to switch given your lack of confidence in your regular gynecologist. I am sure that she does the best that she can for you, but it is a fertility specialist's job to keep abreast of recent breaks in fertility treatments. Fortunately, my own gynecologist (who knew of my PCOS and hypothyroid…

It seems wise to follow the medication timetable prescribed by your doctor because he/she is the professional. That being said, you also should feel free to fully discuss your concerns with your doctor and have them addressed to your satisfaction. If you do not trust the medical advice of your doctor, then I recommend that…

Congratulations on your determination. I find myself in a similar predicament--having regained a respectable weight loss because of illness, hypothyroidism and PCOS in my case,--and impeded by guilt and embarrassment. Please feel free to add me as a friend so we can support each other on this journey. And good luck to you…

I am sorry for your loss, and I am sorry that you've been feeling external and internal pressure to have the elusive grandchild. It's unfair that some women who crave families have to endure infertility issues. Feel free to message me if you want to talk more. Sending positive thoughts your way.

Honestly, the puritanical judgement others have passed on this woman based on one blog post is disgusting. People are highly complex, far too complex to judge based on one article regardless of its depth. She alludes to an emotionally poor childhood, but we know only some highlights and not all the specific events that…

Hi, Patrice. My doctor recently prescribed Metformin 1000mg and then 2000mg, and although it isn't a magic weight loss pill, it certainly curbs carb/sweets cravings and regulates menstrual cycles. My last two cycles were 33 days and 29 days. I've also heard that a Low GI diet is beneficial to PCOS sufferers and have…

Dear Alyssa, First off, congratulations on the four pounds you've lost since you joined in May 2013. Any progress is good, so don't discount it. I recently started Metformin, and it unfortunately hasn't helped my weight issue. In all fairness, though, this is my first day attempting weight loss on Metformin, so I'm not an…

Yes, I totally fell off the wagon during the holidays but am ready to get back to it and loose the final thirty pounds. Isn't it funny how we are programmed to think that overeating equals celebrating? I guess it says as much about social convention as it does about individuals falling off the wagon. Good luck everyone!

It's funny that you should make such an inquiry. Prior to pursuing a medical diagnosis for my symptoms, I explored a gluten free diet. It definitely helped me for a few weeks, but then the symptoms returned with a vengenance. Once I was diagnosed with non-Hashimoto's hypothyroidism, I stopped living a completely gluten…

Yes, I definitely did that. The important thing is that we are back and ready to hunker down to finish what we started.

My TSH was 1.4 a few weeks ago when I visited my endocrinologist. I feel pretty good, so we are holding my dose steady at 75mcg Synthroid for now. Began my journey at 4.5 feeling like garbage. I agree with other posters; find a new endocrinologist if he/she won't take how you feel into account when adjusting meds.

I might recommend some fresh lean chicken or turkey (typically the breast meat) in lieu of the canned tuna. Not only will you get more protein, but you also will reduce sodium. Both are good for overall health. Good luck!

I am no expert on the matter because I am just in the process of being diagnosed with another underlying hormonal disorder on top of hypothyroidism that only might be PCOS, but my endocrinologist has said several times that it is harder for people with PCOS to loose weight than the general population. It isn't impossible,…

Thank you,OP, for the very informative post. I don't think VLCD is for me on a regular basis, but it definitely makes me feel better about days where I don't reach 1200 calories and I receive that "MFP warning" upon closing my food diary.

I have used WW to drop weight in the past, and I always gained it all back and then some every time I stopped going to meetings. I agree with other posters that so many weight watchers focus so much on the numbers on the scale that most (myself included) never develop the habits for long term success. That's not the fault…

It is a wonderful idea to loose weight before conceiving a baby. Not only will it help with conception since extra weight can throw off a woman's cycle, but it also will ensure a healthy pregnancy. The idea of having a baby with my husband, our first baby, is my primary motivation to loose weight. I have lost sixty pounds…

It horrifies me how many uneducated endocrinologists who refuse to remain current with research there seem to be out there. The diagnostic criteria for hypothyroid recently dropped from TSH of 4.5 to 3.5 and is expected to further drop to 2.5 within the next few years. Yet, labs still list the old diagnostic criteria of…

/\/\/\ Agreed. Besides, loosing cup size is necessary when loosing band size, too. Otherwise, you end up like me - I can wear a 38 band but can't find a large enough corresponding cup size to fit.
