  • Just wondering if you set your weekly loss quite high. I'm 5'6" and weigh 167 and my daily calories are 1200 - but I only want to lose 1 lb a week. Don't forget that you can eat back your exercise calories (or at least part of them)
  • Aww that really sucks! I guess just the normal advice - lots of fruit and water. Celery is good for that too. Add some flax seed or chia seed to your shakes. I also use a Sunrider product called Fiber Tone and I haven't had either diarrhea or constipation since starting it. Metamucil works, but I couldn't drink it without…
  • This is soooooo true. When I was about 40 I lost a ton of weight and was almost to the weight I had been at age 25 and enough people told me how old I looked to make me believe them. At 25 I was 120, had gotten to 125 at 40, now at 58 I would like to be around 145 - 150, seems about right to me.
  • Protein shakes are the easiest way I think. You can even just sprinkle some on other foods if you don't want to make a shake. Come in all flavors too. I like PGX vegan chocolate the best. It's organic too!
  • Yes eggs are a great way to start off your day with some healthy protein. I also will hard boil 8 or so at a time and they are ready for me in the busy mornings. I also sometimes whisk a couple, put them into a pan with a lid on minimum - then run and do my makeup, hair, etc and come back to cooked eggs (took some…
  • One meal that I love is: about 2 cups diced celery, 1 cup peppers, 1/2 cup peas, 1/2 cup cauliflower (or can use any combination of veggies) all sauteed together in coconut oil til nice and soft. Then add 2 cups brown rice and a baked chicken breast cut into bite sized pieces. Sometimes I add a little bit of cooked quinoa.…
  • May I add my 2 cents worth? I, too, had to give up my sweet, creamy coffee when I started this and I still miss it sometimes. But I do allow myself a treat once a week and I make the most of that! I agree with the poster above that I too have way more energy now that I'm not depending on the caffeine for it. I do agree…
  • There are sooooo many kinds. You have to read the labels very, very carefully. I use PGX Vegan Double Chocolate. Like I said, there is no gluten, dairy, sugar or soy (all of which I avoid) and it is mostly organic. It also helps me to stay full longer. I use a Magic Bullet blender and put in 1/3 of a banana, 1/2 cup…
  • Cassie, have you tried protein shakes? That might help to keep you fuller longer. I personally use a vegan protein powder, made of rice protein. It is gluten, dairy, sugar and soy free and is mostly organic. Are you allergic to soy?
  • I usually aim for somewhere in between. Eat back maybe 50% of the burned calories.
  • Manitoba, Canada. CST time. And, it finally SPRING!!!
  • Thank you so very much for the responses. It truly is a disease that baffles a person, their doctor, their family, friends, really everyone. I have wondered about different foods that might be causing it. I also have IBS, so have wondered if it's all connected somehow. I eat mostly whole foods but recently have eliminated…
  • LOL - Thanks Steph! I was wondering what the responses were all about! I went ahead and ordered the book anyway.
  • I use PGX Double Chocolate - sooooooo good. I use the Vegan one because it's gluten, dairy, sugar and soy free
  • I agree - just try eating a bit more - add some healthy fat perhaps and 1300 calories may be just right for your activity level. You shouldn't be dizzy - could mean undernourishment I would think.
  • I follow The Virgin Diet - it's basically a 21 day fix as well. I use PGX shakes instead of theirs just because they are cheaper, readily available and have (I believe) the same ingredients. I haven't found it hard at all, but I do find that MFP helps a lot just to keep track of calories, etc. I don't think that it hurts…
  • I just started using a food scale and I'm pretty shocked at how many more calories everything is as compared to the MFP directory. Eg - I've been using 43 calories for a medium golden delicious apple - on the scale it says it is 98. Really will add up in a day. Oh well - will make me exercise harder so that I can eat the…
  • I totally agree with this. I was sticking to the 1200 calories and not adding in my exercise cals and stopped losing for 2 weeks. So I listened to the people that recommended I up it to include the calories burned and now have about 1350 - 1400 a day and I AM LOSING AGAIN!! But, also, 22 lbs is awesome! And don't forget…
  • Have you been tested for diverticulitis? The pain from that is usually on the left side. I have heard people describe it as "a belt tightening around my waist".
  • Melissa Phipps. Would you be able to look at my diary and see what you think? I am 58 years old. Approximately 5'5" and right now weigh 174. I started this time at 186. (I don't think I entered that into my diary properly - think it says I started at 182) But anyway, I haven't lost weight in a couple of weeks and am…
  • You people are truly awesome and I thank you so much. I am going to take all your suggestions into consideration. I will definitely try to eat the 1200 plus exercise additions by adding in some of the suggestions you have made. It has only been a couple of weeks since the weight seemed to stop coming off. Maybe I jumped…
  • Thanks again for meaning so well and trying to help a total stranger!
  • I hadn't changed my starting weight from a couple of years ago - I should of updated it when I started up again. I started at 186 lbs this time.
  • Thank you. I have often wondered if it is because I'm not eating enough. But, like I said, I'm really not hungry and I don't want to start adding starchy or high fat foods in just to get my calorie count up. I will often add an apple or an orange at some point - but that's less than 100 calories. But I will try your…
  • Thank you all so much for the advice. Yes I measure and weigh everything - especially protein. I usually have even less than the 1200 calories and I don't eat more when it says I have earned more with exercise. I spread my calories out through the day but stick to basically 3 meals. I have at least one meal per day of a…
