Still here..modestly trying to shift the balance in favor of more vegetables....

Just trying to get started at a more basic level -- more vegetables, less other stuff.

Yes, indeed! I was 54 when I was diagnosed, and I spent a year in chemotherapy. When I went in to chemotherapy, I weighed 365 pounds, and had been disabled and hadn't worked in years. I changed my lifestyle to help in my recovery, and I lost 188 pounds over the next 1 1/2 years (the first year of which was during…

I have lost 188 pounds since being diagnosed with cancer two years ago. I lost it by totally and radically changing my lifestyle in an effort to help my body recover. Changing is hard, and I still have another 30 or so pounds to lose, but it has been worth the effort!

I have heard that this is very common. We go to "battle stations" to get through the crisis, and when the immediate battle is over (such as a surgery, or a course of chemotherapy", even if the results are good, we often start feeling the feelings that were suppressed to get us through the emergency. Be gentle with…

Boil them, slip off the skins, mash them, sprinkle on plenty of cinnamon, and stir.

I am glad an RN in surgical recovery took the time to add this information, and she makes some excellent points, but I want to add my two-cents worth -- PREPARE for the worst, but EXPECT the best! Surgical recovery might not be any fun, but it is temporary. Expect the best possible long-term outcome, though. Positive…

I remember when I got diagnosed with cancer. It puts you in a state of shock, and things start happening so fast. It is unreal to find yourself suddenly dealing with doctors, hospitals, treatments, and so much uncertainty. But LOTS of people survive cancer. Stay focused on doing whatever it takes to get well! Cancer was…

First, be sure you are actually serving yourself enough calories for your age and activity level. Maybe you do need more! Plan to lose weight slowly, not from severe calorie deficit. Second, some people (like me) have a problem with sugars and carbs. If I get any sugar, it makes me feel ravenously hungry! Same for too many…

I have lost 187 pounds since August of 2011. At times, I have stalled for a couple of months, but it keeps adding up! I have another 40 pounds to go.

Make some "noodles" from zuchinni, and cover with a jar of spaghetti sauce. It is perfectly good cold! I make the zuchinni noodles using a sprial vegetable cutter, but you could just slice them up into kind of julienned stips with a knife, or make them into flat noodles witha cheese grater. The raw almond butter I use says…

Vegetable stir fry: Chop up any veggies you like (maybe broccoli, carrot, celery, onion, and minced garlic?), or use frozen veggies if you don't have time. Have about 1/2 Cup cooked rice (prepare it the night before, to save time in the morning). Steam the vegetables in a tiny bit of water for about two minutes. Drain. Add…

Things to do with Turnips: 1.Peel, slice into fairly thin rounds, boil till tender, drain, and serve with butter. 2. Peel, slice into matchstick size (start by slicing into thin rounds, then slice up the rounds). Peel and slice an equal amount of carrots. Mix together, steam, and serve as a side dish. 3. Peel, boil, mash,…

Thanks for the personal story on this. I have heard of using hyperbaric oxygen, so it is nice to hear how it worked for someone. I am interested in other alternative therapies, too, like Insulin Poteniation Therapy, Hyperthermia, High Dose Vitamin C IV's, and others, as well. Best wishes for your continuing recovery!

How old are you? 57 How tall? 5'4" How what is your weekly weightloss goal? I don't have a particular goal for each week, but in one and a half years, I lost 180 pounds. Have been holding steady for a few months, but need to lose another 40 pounds. What is your calorie goal per day? It varies between 1200 and 1400. I…

There is a binge eating disorder group on this site. Here is the link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/groups/home/726-binge-eating-support-group Also, I spent a good deal of my life binge eating. I stopped almost two years ago and have lost about 180 pounds. I believe that the primary reason I ate like that was sugar! I got…
