Hi, I'm Karen. I've been participating in the Run the Year challenge for 3 years. I joined the Americathon challenge on July 4th. I like being active, and I love that I get to explore while exercising.

I live on Capitol Hill, so that's not too far away. Would you be interesting in walking in Olympic Sculpture Park or Myrtle Edwards Park?

HI, I'm Karen. I quite smoking on Januaryd 4. I understand what you're experiencing. What to do with my hands, is the hardest for me. I've taken to carrying around a bottle of water and whenever I want to smoke, I take a swig. I'm part of an MFP challenge where we're supposed to drink the amount of water equal to half of…

Hi, I'm Karen. I understand exactly how you feel. I have gotten a lot healthier since I joined MFP. Unfortunately, my weight loss has been minimal. I recently realized that one of my big problems is that I have some food pushers in my life. They really aren't very supportive of my weight loss journey. I'd love to hear from…

Hi, I'm Karen. I am always looking for motivational partners. I've been using MFP for close to 60 days, and I'm also a weight watcher. I've gotten a lot healther and my body is a lot firmer, however, I've been at a plateau so I haven't lost any weight. I'd love to talk.

You might want to try using cashew butter or almond butter on a whole wheat english muffin instead. Both cashew butter and almond butter are naturally sweeter tasting than peanut butter, and it makes for a nice change.

One of the other MFPers posted this quote, and I thought it was inspiring: Be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still. What we are doing here takes time. Don't get discouraged if you aren't running full tilt. You will get there. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and if you stumble…

Thanks so much for this quote. It was inspiring.

Hi, Welcome to MFP. I'm Karen, and I've been an insulin-dependent diabetic for 35 years. I'd love to share tips, recipes, etc.

I know exactly what you mean about friends with no motivation. I'm an insulin-dependent diabetic, and until I hurt my back I was always pretty good about keeping my weight in control. I put on weight when I couldn't walk distances or do other forms of exercise. When I was ready to get back in shape I invited my "friend" to…

I'm a insulin-dependent diabetic, so I control my sugar intake at all times. In general, some forms of sugar are "healthier" than others. You might want to check out "The Sugar Solution" cookbook. Its got some great easy recipes that will give you a sugar fix without using up all your "allowed" sugar. It also explains how…

Hi Miranda, I live on Capitol Hill, too. I'm looking for an exercise buddy here in the neigghborhood. I don't do gyms but I am teaching myself to do the local stair climbs. You're more than welcome to join me sometime.

My biggest obstacle is stress eating. It's something new, and I find that I do it even when I'm not hungry. I try distract my self by doing something healthier such as stretches or going for a walk.

There are some healthy ways to cut down on sugar intake. If you really like sweets, there are some good things that are sugar free or low sugar. I love sugar free oreo cookies and the sugar-free vanilla ice cream is pretty good too. The other thing I eat is weight watchers' roasted almond bars or the oh so nuts bars. Both…

I would like to join this group. I've spent the last month learning how to eat healther. I've gotten much better about eating a wide variety of vegetables, and now I need to get more structured about my exercise regime.

Hi, My name is Karen, and I live on Capitol Hill. I'm looking for positive-thinking exercise partners and a health/fitness support group. I'm not good at going to the gym. I find it boring, and usually lose interest after a while. I enjoy doing outdoor activities, and have recently started doing stair climbs. I hope to…
