  • I put somewhat sheer cream colored roman shades in my bedroom. They give me privacy buy don't block out much of the run. I have never been a morning person but waking up and seeing the sun makes it a whole lot easier than darkness. It's worked so well that I did the same in my kids rooms and they wake up a lot better. No…
  • My husband manages a group of foot and ankle Dr's. He's not a DR and either am I, but here's the basic info as it was put to me when I started working on my fitness more. 1. shoes are designed to fit a range of feet. custom orthotics are designed for just your feet. 2. just because you get orthotics doesn't mean you…
  • I can find gaggles of teenagers a bit intimidating too, but I'm also the parent of one of them. Fortunately for me, our gym only allows kids/teens at certain times and I tend to avoid those times. If that isn't the case, you can do one of 3 things 1. go at a different time 2. scare them, teen boys are like stray cats they…
  • One thing I've learned is that you really shouldn't have to "break in" your running shoes. If they aren't comfortable from the start, then they aren't what you need. I agree with the other posters about getting properly fitted at a running store. Make sure it is a running store. Stores like Foot Locker won't be much help…
  • They have virtual 5K's that you can do at a more convenient time/place. I've never done one, but I see them on Active.com all the time and have seen some pretty reviews on them. I'm not a very good social runner. I've run a few 5k's and a Zombie obstacle run, but in general I get uncomfortable running with other people (I…
  • I agree with the other posters about turning up the music and just getting out there. But, I have a little trick that helps when my confidence is low. Buy a new piece of workout clothing that makes you feel really good. Maybe there are some shorts that fit "just right". You know that 1 special pair that doesn't ride up or…
  • Looking at your diary makes me hungry! Try and add in more real food. I've found that 2 hard boiled eggs is a lot more filling than a bowl of instant oatmeal. Add that with some cottage cheese or yogurt. Babybel and String cheese are quick and easy and more filling than chips from subway and you can throw in a 100cal…
  • I did the race in St. Louis last year. I was kind of disappointed, but it's all in what you're looking for. They sold it as a 5k obstacle run with Zombies, but the obstacles were almost non-existent and you could just walk around them. A lot of people in the "run" didn't run at all, they treated it as a haunted trail walk.…
  • I don't know for sure about the headaches, but I definately understand the cravings for "goodies". I find the holidays are the BEST times to stock up on these. Around halloween, Easter, etc. they always have the mini candies. They are the perfect size for curbing your cravings without killing your calorie goals. I try to…
  • Peanut Butter and Honey sandwich or hot tea with honey and milk.
  • My husband is the cook in our family and used to snack then eat dinner. Now he makes a choice. He can either snack while cooking and then miss out on eating with the family or he can not snack and have the dinner with the rest of us. Not both. Unfortunately for us it is about a 50/50 split, but through this and cutting out…
  • I've tried various methods of birth control from the nuva ring, pill, patch, and now IUD. I seem to gain a little weight with some and lose a little with others. I tend to think it is more the effect on my moods, than the actual medication involved. If I'm moody and cranky, then I work out less and eat more crap. When I…
  • I've had challenges with it my whole life, but was never diagnosed until I joined the military. Up until then I just didn't understand why I could never be as "fit" as the other people doing the same things I was. Of course you need to listen to whatever your dr says, but besides that you need to learn to listen to your…
  • Sounds great! bump
  • I used to be really shy and awkard in general (still am in new situations). It is overcoming a mind game. For me I had to find someone else to "blame" for me doing something/being somewhere. My dogs and kids became that excuse. Sounds a little goofy, but if I wanted to walk somewhere that I wouldn't be comfortable, I would…
  • It can be a real challenge! I have 3 kids and have been both active duty and a reservist at times.(always Army) Sometimes it is harder as a reservist because you have to balance more parts to your life. I have always struggled with running, I have mild asthma and have fought to avoid getting the alternate 2 1/2 mile walk.…
  • Chickened out of level 2 30DS, did level 1 though. I just need to suck it up and take of the training wheels. haha
  • I can completely sympathise. I just discussed this issue with my Dr. today. They are actually sending me to a physical therapist that deals with "weak abdominal muscles". I have no idea what they may have me do there, but I'm open to anything. I've already been told I may have to have something done medically, but this is…
  • Today was a run day for me, so I did 6week6pack. I think I'm moving up to L2 of 30DS tomorrow. I sooooo hate the planks, not looking forward to it.
  • Did 6week 6pack for the first time today. I finished it but probably only did half the exercises right and I didn't use weights. Going to try and slip in 30day shred since I feel like i cheated myself. I'm just not that coordinated. Someone else mentioned planks in level 2 of 30DS...ugh. I struggled with those in the and…
  • Finished another day of Level 1 30DS. Thinking about bumping to level 2 but a little nervous. I'm watching the 6week to 6pack as I type. Maybe I can start alternating that with the 30DS this week, then move up to level 2. hmmmmm I still owe a workout for yesterday too. maybe I can sneak in another Jillian this afternoon.
  • I agree that a lot can be attributed to water gain. But I also think you might need to rethink how you are tracking your exercise. I see exercise as additional burning of calories. You show a large burn of calories based off of doing "light/moderate cleaning". If this is a normal activity for you then I wouldn't track it.…
  • Yesterday was a rest day from 30DS AND cardio! I had so much more energy today and was able to put in 2 good workouts. I did level 1 30DS at 6am and then just finished cardio at the gym. I bought the 6week to 6pack today and hope to integrate it into my workouts next week.
  • That's great! My 12 year old is pretty aware and plays sports, but my 5 yr old is realy into it. He is always asking if things are healthy and talks about running to "get strong". I'm working on my 2yr old now.
  • Personally I think it depends on the type of workout you do and the size of "the girls". With the exception of running, I don't do a lot of bouncing type things and I'm small chested. I go to target/walmart and get an inexpensive one. I never workout in a regular bra though, too uncomfortable. I went through basic training…
