  • Follow the advice of others offered above regarding eating foods that will make yourself feel full. If you're doing that and eating at least the number of calories that you should, you might have to grin and bear it. There are some times you have to use will power. My own experience is that I'll have intense cravings, but…
  • Banking calories takes too much calculation. Also, it becomes way to easy to reverse the process--I'll take a loan of calories today and eat fewer calories tomorrow. Pretty soon you're so in debt that you have to eat so few calories on some days that you are likely to cheat. Eating for a healthy weight is a one day at a…
  • I don't believe the claim that it's bad to eat late at night. The only real danger of doing so is that you'll be less likely to control yourself at noght. So long as you're tracking everything and not exceeding your totals, you should be fine. I'm not a big fan of eating by whether you feel hungry; when I do that, I…
  • If you get a Garmin device which comes with a heart rate monitor, make sure it's not the soft strap monitor. The Garmin soft strap monitor works for a while, then stops being accurate. Their other heart rate monitor works fine.
  • So long as you're handling the fiber fine (you're not experiencing too much gas and are going to ththe bathroom normally), then having lots of fiber is a good thing.
  • When eating out, you'll often have to estimate things. However, now many restaurants include calorie counts. I like to buy things that come in small packets because it's easy to figure out exactly how much I'm eating. If in doubt about how many calories are in an item, you can always go the USDA web site which lists…
  • I try to measure as many things as possible. However, practicality demands estimating many things. (I'm not going to measure two tablespoonds peanut butter every time I make a peanuyt butter & jelly sandwich.) When I estimate, I try to be accurate. I don't need to make my estimates on the high side.
  • Good luck. It's good you have the courage to do this. I have two friends who both are obese to the point where it's recommended that they have bariatric surgery. Neither will do it. Nor are they doing anything else successfully in order to lose weight. It scares me because they're both men in their 40s or 50s and face a…
  • My weight will vary around 4 pounds during the day if I weigh myself several times. You may very well have lost 6 pounds in a week. You may have also lost a smaller (or larger) amount. The important thing is that you lost weight. Keep at it. And don't be surprised if , after eating exactly like you're supposed to, you have…
  • I'll let you know what helped me lose weight: Using myfitnesspal.com for everything. I tried myfitnessal.com about a year ago. I lost ten pounds. However, there were many days when I hadn't followed the diet, so I would stop recording stuff. I just started again in March. This time I've lost 20 pounds so far and still am…
