  • Not the same, but I definitely get less Hangry on keto. And my migraines get better, for reasons I can't understand...but it stands to reason that mood fluctuations may decrease as well.
  • Keeping you in my thoughts. The reality is that life will always keep happening, so at some point you have to put your health high on the priority list!
  • Usually it's about 2 to 3 lbs, which you will regain if you go back on carbs. I would aim a couple of pounds below goal weight for that reason.
  • Oh, and as for keto sticks, I found them over the counter at a target in NY, but they are behind the counter in Canada so far as I can tell. Just remember that keto sticks will be positive whether you are burning dietary fat or your own. I tend to use them after going out to be sure I'm still burning (assess the damage),…
  • Great job today, everyone! Totally agree with the diuretic effect of the first few days, but it's a great motivator! I was sick this weekend and had to get some new meds and have jumped up 3 lbs. The key is to not give up and press on! It will sort itself out. Been at this for 40 days and finally someone at work asked if I…
  • I am doing keto alone but my partner and kids are not. Everyone benefits from fewer sweets and some low carb substitutions, so I left the carbs alone. I also hate food waste! I would save your cheats and oopsies for eating out, where it is way harder to stay on track, so try your best not to fall off the wagon at home. It…
  • Hi All, I'm just finding this now! Have been doing Keto with/without 18:6 intermittent fasting. Also avoiding snacking, so aiming for low calorie counts, around 1200 a day. I don't have much more appetite than that! I've done a more restrictive low carb low calorie (Bernstein) and felt awful. This time I'm just listening…
  • Hi friends, I signed up and agree that the content is great, I read And the Band Played On about 3 years ago and have been hooked on the early history of the disease since. Even as a physician, I find the course informative. I have been put off by the behaviour of certain participants in the course. Usually, these people…
  • That sounds familiar in some ways. My goal would just be to wear the size of clothes my partner wears! He doesn't want to share, though :P I think that's because his clothes are nicer than mine...lol. Is she the type who usually dresses up more? She may not realise that you actually want to step out of your practical shell…
  • Everyone does neat things! I'm an obstetrician/gynaecologist and finishing an academic fellowship so I can work in a teaching centre. 13 years of post secondary and counting...
  • I have seen them in the US, but have never gone. I think what is really interesting is that this isn't really anything new, and yet people only came to the realisation about their beliefs in 2012. And, since Chick-fil-A, I have yet to see progress or organization in outing these hatemongering family businesses. HRC has…
  • Practical, non-judgemental advice: 1) It's only been 5 months since you've come to terms with your own identity. Give it some time to figure out what this all really means for you. There is no prize for rushing through the coming out process. 2) I agree that it is always safer to wait until you have safety and independence…
  • Really interesting! It's surprisingly well-written...not as sensational as some adoption stories. In Ontario and many provinces (it's provincial jurisdiction, not federal), adoption files are opened when the child becomes 18, and there is a registry where families can look for each other and also place "no contact"…
  • Lol...the home study entails multiple questionnaires and home visits by the social workers. I think that's a relatively universal practice. In Ontario, we also take a mandatory pre placement class called PRIDE training, and I think that varies from place to place. It's not a parenting class, but it is meant to help prepare…
  • I was unclear: a problem for a lot of folks on odd shifts is that you can have trouble keeping track of meals. For instance, when I work a 24 hour shift, I will sometimes eat overnight (at work), before bed because of hunger and because it's breakfast time, then sleep, then have a late lunch and dinner...but what seems…
  • Hi friends, I didn't realize that I haven't posted an introduction. I am 30 years old and a proud Papa to 2 beautiful girls, 2 years old and 4.5 months old. We adopted domestically (Canada) as most countries have closed the door to same sex parent adoption. Our first came to us as a voluntary placement through the public…
  • I work a combination of day shifts, 12 hour hospital shifts, and 24 hour in hospital call shifts. My best advice is to log, log, log! Midnight is always the cutoff point, and be careful about doubling up on meals before bed. I find that I'm so tired that I will still sleep if I go to bed a bit hungry. 100 cal granola bars,…
  • Outstanding! You look great - you convey a sense of confidence in your after photos...and easy on the eyes, may I add!
  • Going through this right now. Two kids and my partner at home. I'm a workaholic by nature, but I've finally decided to say Fck it, and have started running at lunch...that way I'm not home any later.
  • 1) You're not alone. 2) Do it for yourself, in your own way, in your own time. 3) It takes guts to be the fat guy running or working out. It's a heck of a lot better than being glued to the couch.
  • I'm here, too! Proud papa to two beautiful girls - 2 years and 3.5 months!

  • I am a bit concerned here...wanting equality is not elitist in the slightest. What is elitist is not wanting to yield any privilege to others. And minimising how someone feels if they feel attacked or unsafe is at least as bad as the original attack because it further silences victims. People who claim an alleged right to…
  • Very much so. Between 12 hour work days and two kids under two, it's very hard, albeit your days sound longer. 4-6 cups of coffee a day help. Sounds like meal replacement / protein supplementation may help. Home made granola and yogourt would be something your son may like, too. I'm on a diet-only regimen right now. The…
  • LOL - I also thought the plan was different. Re the plan: I used to have an Excel spreadsheet with a line graph and plot against that...then I could see where I was heading...the problem is that weight loss isn't really linear...but the nerd factor got me very excited...and preplanning is always helpful. If you stick to a…
  • Lol...true. We're moving in two months and have a baby on the way, so I know I can't make use of a membership...but I have some barbells calling from the basement!
  • That is reasonable. I'd try before I buy, though. Three or five sessions to get a good feel before you invest. Alternately, you could try on your own and get a trainer when our if you plateau. That worked for me when I had a gym membership (thinking of starting again to do weight training once I'm at goal).
  • Me, too! It keeps me on track!
  • Congratulations!!!! Dish! Dish!
  • I know the topic is dead now, but I had to look and see what came of it - thanks for the update, though the outcome isn't ideal. Some (if not most) guys are ****s. They all suck until one day one of them is amazing, and you fall in love. I NEVER thought that I would meet someone with whom I wanted to spend my life with…
