  • You're fine. While Vitamin A (as well as D,E,K) are fat soluble vitamins and thus can accumulate making you more prone to overdosing (hypervitaminosis) it's going to take more than one day of going over the daily limit to do anything. Just don't make a habit of it.
  • Old Jack or mesomorph will melt your face off if you're used to mainstream stuff like C4
  • Barbell glute bridges would probably isolate your glutes more with less lower back strain. I'd swap the pull throughs for those.
  • Low amounts of alcohol intake can help raise HDL. 1-2 beers or glasses of a wine a day.
  • A lot of people can get arthritis in their back as early as their twenties for various reasons. If your pain is primarily localized to your back and doesn't radiate down either/both legs it's likely due to either lumbar facet arthritis or SI joint pain. PT and NSAIDs are a mainstay in treatment but I'd suggest seeing an…
  • Rare GI tumors like insulinomas can cause hypoglycemia. Certain herbal supplements like panax ginseng can too. You need a formal work up for this if you're truly running that low without taking exogenous insulin.
  • Hmmm oral diflucan for disseminated candidiasis. I hope you promptly sued said doc for malpractice for not admitting you to the ICU and starting you on IV amphotericin
  • Unless you have AIDS or are on chronic immunosuppressive drugs then you aren't going to have an overgrowth of candida. Healthy women get candidal vaginitis (yeast infection) because the pH of the vaginal canal alters the microbiota. Babies can also get oral/esophageal candiasis due to poor cell mediated immunity. This…
  • Metformin inhibits gluconeogenesis in the liver which is one of the main ways you maintain your blood glucose levels when fasting. You won't be as prone to going low like someone on insulin would be, but if you go too long without eating your body will have a hard time maintaining normal blood sugar.
  • It's the vitamin C in orange juice that facilitates iron uptake. If you're taking an iron supplement for anemia, be sure it also contains vitamin C or that you are taking a supplement.
  • Dandelion root is the first thing that comes to mind. Acts as a mild diuretic to help lose water weight.
  • Obviously all sports/physical activities carry with them an inherent risk of injury. And of course inactivity and sedentary lifestyles are much more at fault for most of the health problems we see than some weekend warrior trying to do hang snatches for time. As a health care professional, I'll try to refrain from sarcasm…

  • Sounds like chronic compartment syndrome, though I doubt that is OPs issue. Agree with more water, sleep, and protein. Could try a glutamine supplement as lots of people swear by it for reducing muscle soreness and it's pretty cheap. Other than that just listen to your body. If your legs hurt that bad then do something…
  • When doing them try lifting your toes off the ground and at the top of the movement try to push your knees outward. Both of those will help you to contract your glutes harder. Also agree with the earlier post about doing a 1-2 second isometric during each rep.
  • I'd look into KT tape in the interim. As an aside, has your doc done any genetic testing for connective tissue disorders e.g. Ehlers-Danlos? May be something to discuss with them at your next appointment
  • As a budding orthopaedic surgeon, I love it. Crossfit is gonna help put my kids through college.

  • If it hurts more in your groin, then it's more likely to be be related to the actual hip joint and would be more concerning for things like OA or AVN of the femoral head. Pain on the outside is likely soft tissue related with the most common etiology probably being trochanteric bursitis. The former requires x-rays and work…
  • Both. You need carbs before to ensure muscle and liver glycogen so you can lift heavier/longer. You need carbs after to spike your insulin and promote an anabolic environment, and again to replenish glycogen stores.
  • Oy this is so incorrect. Blood sugar spike leads to release of pancreatic insulin. Once you stop eating carbs, insulin levels drop and your body first depletes liver glycogen to maintain blood glucose levels. After that, your liver uses certain amino acids to maintain blood glucose via gluconeogenesis. Once the substrates…
  • Heavy squats are actually one of the best ab exercises you can do. I personally think doing dedicated "ab" workouts while bulking is pretty useless. Using good form on heavy core lifts like squat and deadlift is sufficient. Worry about sit ups and whatnot when you start slimming back down.
  • Pantera...
  • So a single case report about acute tubular necrosis and another study that isn't about creatine at all? Strong evidence. Taking Advil when you're dehydrated can cause renal failure and acute tubular necrosis but I think I'll still take it for a headache.
  • Assuming you're taking creatine post workout you should be taking in some sort of quick digesting carb (dextrose, waxy maize) anyways to facilitate glycogen repletion in muscle tissue. I have to plead ignorance as to whether or not insulin directly enhances creatine absorption but having insulin around post workout is…
  • Considering oral and esophageal candidiasis aka "thrush" only happen in people that are immunocomprised (HIV/chemo/transplant), it's not likely that candida is colonizing your GI tract and wreaking havoc on your health. Between your immune system and the natural bacterial flora in your gut, yeast like candida can't really…
  • I've always found plain monohydrate to work best and it's dirt cheap these days which is a plus. I try to take roughly 5g per 100lbs of body weight and it seems to work better for me at that dose. Be sure when you are taking it with something that will spike your insulin levels post workout to facilitate absorption into…
  • Nothing in there is gonna hurt you if you take it in moderation. Biggest problem would be anxiety or sleeplessness from the caffeine, as most preworkouts have on the order of 200-400mg of caffeine per serving. Might get the beta alanine tingles too but those are harmless. Start out with 0.5-1 scoop at first and see how it…
  • Fungal toenail infections aka Onychomycosis take a notoriously long time to treat and tend to only respond to oral antifungals as opposed to topical sprays/creams. Terbinafine has been around for ages and will usually do the trick. Even with medicine though, the discoloration/thickened toenails aren't likely to get back to…
  • Type 1 involves autoimmune attack on beta cells but type 2 does involve loss of beta cell functionality albeit secondary to peripheral insulin resistance. More insulin resistance = pancreas has to secrete more insulin = beta cells burnout. So by the time your blood glucose becomes abnormal it means that your pancreas is…
  • I'd suggest focusing on increasing fat and protein intake to meet caloric needs and minimizing carbs (obviously). While having increased lean muscle mass will improve your insulin sensitivity, you don't want to put undue stress on your already impaired pancreas while bulking from eating too many carbs. Remember, by the…
