  • I don't know but the same thing is happening with me.
  • I've done low salt for years now to varying degrees. I agree that eggs, tomatoes, and a few other things just "need" a bit of salt. Pepper and spicy things are great on eggs....a NM thing is green chile on eggs which is awesome. Lemon pepper (read ingredients because some have added salt) is wonderful on vegetables (try it…
  • Raw veggies (carrots, peppers, broccoli, etc) with a bit of hummus or low cal dip.
  • I started at 22-24 tops and really should have been in 26 bottoms. Now I'm a lady's large top, sometimes a medium and a lady's size 16 pant. I've lost 15 pounds since I joined MFP 8 months ago and I've lost 50+ pounds since I started my weight loss journey. No easy task for a 73 year old but it is possible. Take it one day…
  • Since you like Mexican food, how about some corn tortillas. Tacos, quesadillas, nachos are quick and easy to make. Add a bit of sour cream or salsa if you have it.....maybe a bit of avocado. (It has a really healthy fat)
  • Sounds like lentils and your digestive system don't mix well. Maybe you have an allergy or something. For me, the lentils are a great source of fiber but you have to gradually increase the amount you eat....just like with adding any other high fiber to your diet.
  • I recently took a 12 hour long trip and I ate while my companion was driving, I took individual containers of Greek yogurt and baggies of sliced fruit and veggies (cucumbers, pepper strips, carrot and celery sticks). I took nuts, hummus, dip, string cheese, Baby Bell's, and some whole grain crackers. I took individual…
  • I think the way fruits and vegetables are cooked makes a big difference in their taste/texture. Grilling and roasting brings out the sweetness in corn, winter squash, carrots, sweet potatoes, onions, and peppers and some "crunch" if you add a touch of olive oil. Bananas and apples are good baked. Grill peaches and…
  • nuts and nut butters with apples/bananas, cheese and crackers, Greek yogurt and fruit..... Maybe deviled eggs or a peanut butter & jelly sandwich with a glass of milk. For special treats, milk and oatmeal cookies for meals, maybe homemade mac & cheese or pasta with meatballs and lots of cheese, homemade pizza with a whole…
  • I like tilapia seasoned with Cajun seasoning. Wrap seasoned individual filets in aluminum foil and then bake or grill them. The cooking time varies according to the thickness of the filet but usually cooks in 5-7 minutes for small filets. When the filet flakes, it is cooked. A squeeze of lemon juice is a nice touch after…
  • I think this is a great idea. I've thought about suggesting something similar. I hope there are lots of others interested in doing this, too Sheila
  • I used canned black beans, drained and rinsed. Part of the reason for making this soup was to use up some left-overs. I had one really large chicken breast and the beans and the corn in the freezer. I thought it would be a good way to try out the recipe and see if I liked it. Next time I will double it and freeze…
  • I love oatmeal with raisins and walnuts and a bit of maple syryp (or the sugar free stuff). It reminds me of oatmeal cookies. Another favorite is oatmeal with dried apricots, cut into small pieces, and cooked with the oatmeal. Add a tablespoon or so of almonds and yummm.
  • Most physicians have no clue about weightloss and nutrition in general. If they had the answers, we'd all be at our ideal weight.
  • salted nuts. nut butters, processed/frozen chicken breasts and other seasoned meats, salad dressings and other condiments, hummus and commercially prepared dips, pizza, almost any frozen dinner like Lean Cuisine, etc. I'm on the other end with sodium and need to limit how much I eat. Those are a few of the things that I…
  • Get the ketchup with no high frustose corn syrup. That's evil stuff and not really food in my opinion. I don't buy any food that has high frustose corn syrup in the list of ingredients. As others have said, choose foods in their unprocessed, natural state as much as possible. You'll get the maximum nutrition from those.
  • I relate to your concerns about potassium. It's a challenge for me to eat the amount recommended by my doctor . I also watch my carbs so I choose carbs that will also give me the potassium I need. Sweet potatoes, small red skinned potatoes, winter squash, and all beans are part of my diet but in somewhat smaller amounts…
  • I watch my food dollars very carefully. I love soups and it's a great way to use the "left over" vegetables that aren't quite enough for a meal for the family. Lentils are a great addition to soups. They have lots of fiber and a good source of vegetable protein. Do a search for Hamburger Lentil soup for the recipe &…
  • Your husband's behavior is verbally abuse.....plain and simple. There is more going on than your weight gain and his liking porn. Deleting phone history is a lame excuse for hiding things. Hopefully the two of you can go to marriage counseling. If not, then you go and sort this out with a therapist. The college may have…
  • Thanks everyone. I found a weekly ciircular on line for Sprouts and the specials do seem similar to Sunflower. I'll have to check out Trader Joe's and see how it compares. It's much further away but it might be worth the extra drive time.
  • I don't have "meal" suggestions but I have a salad recommendation. It's a New York Times recipe for Lentils with ginger and lemon flavor. If you google the recipe, you'll fnd the ingredients/directions. Most are things that you would have in your home pantry. I've added a variety fruits/veggies to the basic saladcarrits,…
  • I make a vegetable lasagna with roasted zucchini, eggplant, onions, and peppers. After I roast the veggies I layer them with the lasagna noodles, marinara sauce, and a mixture of egg and ricotta cheese. I top it off with some mozarella and parmesan cheese. This dish also freezes well.

  • I understand your frustration. Although I haven't "officially" been diagnosed with diabetes, I am definitely insulin resistant. I try to limit my carbs and spread them out over the day. I've not found a list of menus but over time I've developed a few "standard meals" that I have often. For breakfast it's usually either…
  • Here's an idea.....create your own "shake mix" with powdered skim milk, protein powder (maybe chocolate), and a little artificial sweetener. Add the mix and water to one of those shaker containers, a bit of ice from a vendor, and you've got a pretty good breakfast. with a piece of fresh fruit. Look for Justin's individual…

  • Running in a pool reduces the stress on your knees.....if that is an option. With a floatation belt you can "run" in the deep water with no impact.
  • I made stuffed peppers with ground chicken and quinoa instead of rice. I cooked them in a tomatoey sauce in my crockpot and they were the best!! I don't have the link but I bet you can google stuffed pepper quinoa recipe and find it. Rinsing the quinoa is absolutely necessary or it will have a bitter taste.

  • Hope the $20/wk is a temporary thing. I live on a fixed income and I watch my grocery budget closely. I would have a hard time with a $20 budget. For protein, how about eggs, tuna, maybe cottage cheese, peanut butter, and some meat that's on sale. A loaf of bread for sandwiches and French toast. Russet potatoes with…
  • I eat lots of vegetable....maybe as much as 2 cups a day. I count them in my calories but they don't add up to a lot. I also choose vegetables on the lower end of the glycemic scale to control my carbs. The same goes for fruits with a low glycemic index. In a day I often eat at least 3 different fruits because they are a…
  • I have a scale and I use it frequently. But here's another angle.....it's important to learn what 4 oz. "looks like" and what 2 cups of salad greens "looks like." There will be many times when you eat away from home....either at a restaurant or at a friend's house...and you need the skill to "eyeball" your food in those…
  • be careful about the frozen chicken breasts. Check the label.....many have a lot of added sodium. Fresh chicken from a good meat market is the best.
