  • Despite what most people generally think about Iowa there is quite a bit to do in Des Moines and the surrounding areas. The downtown lofts are very nice - there are plenty to choose from, there are also some brownstones in downtown which are very nice as well. There may be some houses walking distance to Downtown, but…
  • That could be a problem - Zombie Burger and Bandit Burrito are my biggest hurdles to progress, at least there are tons of fitness oportunities in DSM. ( And no worries - The Twin Cities are way more fun than DSM, we all know that here ). Feel free to add me if you want.
  • Just another Iowan here... Living in Des Moines
  • Found some discount registration for the gladiator race, www.groupon.com/deals/gladiator-assault-challenge-7 Or use the promo code "mudslinger" for a $30 discount.
  • I like the concept of the Sleepy Hollow Runs (themes and stuff) - in fact I think its pretty cool the way they handle everything down there. I might check those out as well, But GAC was a blast last year for sure, and I am looking forward to doing it again!
  • Personally I like this one better than the warrior dash, I found it to be a bit more challenging, but with the same general atmosphere. Both great events!
  • I Drove there for a day, but did not do the town - just rode the resort and then left. Awesome place to ride though, lots of steeps and challenging trails! If you would consider yourself an expert be sure to check out the Extreme Limits area - you will not be dissapointed, if you average/intermediate - probably steer clear…
  • Johnston/Grimes here - I have found that not very many people use this forum, maybe there just are not many Iowans out there who are looking to get fit?
  • I was feeding 3 people including myself on $50 a month for a while. Dried beans are cheap and healthy, 25 pound bag of flour for $8 can make a lot of loaves of bread/tortillas/pizza crusts etc. Make all of your food from scratch, no prepared foods, it takes a lot of planning but will save you tons of money. I can make a…
  • Alpine Replay - the concept is awesome, i would pay for an app like this is the stats worked, problem is it is way too buggy and annoying.
  • App kind of sucks - my battery lived the entire time - this app can not track well at all. In 59 minutes it said I did 1 run and 0 Jumps. Said i spent 18 minutes resting, but I never stopped, I ride a short hill, run is a little under half mile in length. In the 59 minutes logged it registered 1 run but I did 10, it…
  • I agree - I like the concept of Alpine Replay, but it still has a long way to come before it gets popular. I tried SkiTracker app as well, but I like that a little less than AlpineReplay. I just bought an extended life battery for my phone, and will be on my board in 2 hours - I will let you know tomorrow if that helped.
  • I bet you got the "Couch Potato Trophy" for that bad result, I think I get couch potato trophy every day and I never stop moving. :-)
  • Its a cool app but its a bit buggy... Issues that I have - My jacket is just a shell, not insulated, even on an inside pocket the cold kills my battery after about 3 or 4 runs. - The top speed is not always accurate, just cruising it pegged me at 22mph ave with top speed of 28mph, the next run i took a straight, steep,…
  • You are living my dream! Stevens Pass is a cool place.
  • Welcome to Des Moines! There are some smaller independent restaurants around the city but I think the vast majority of the places are chain restaurants. You can find healthier items at most of the places around town but I have been unable to locate any health-specific places. Some of my local favorites include Bandit…
  • Wild Mountain(hill), Minnesota - opened 1 run with manmade snow and terrain park features on Saturday October 7th. Trollhaugen, Wisconsin (right across river from wild) - opened 1 run with manmade snow and terrain park features on Sunday October 8th. So it looks like I may be headed north this weekend!
  • I love Granby! - I went to SolVista and met tons of cool local people.

  • Veggies, Celery, Carrots, etc. Trader Joe's Falafel Chips Fresh baked Naan, homemade pita chips Makes a great sandwich spread - Bread, cucumbers, tomato, lettuce, onion, banana peppers, green peppers, feta, hummus!
  • A cup of green tea can contain anywhere from 15mg of caffeine to 75 mg of caffeine depending on the brand and brew of the tea. However you can reduce more than 90% of the caffeine content of ANY tea brew by steeping the tea leaves for about 30-45 seconds, discarding that hot liquid, then using the pre-steeped tea leaves or…
  • Little burned out on Levels - but for the most part ^^^^ This List!
  • Prices are comparatively cheap for some items. I do not do all of my shopping there, staple items are cheaper elsewhere, but they have a ton of unique items and the prices are very good. I fill two of the canvas shopping bags every time I go and it usually is only about $30 - $40. Most of the stuff I buy from TJ's is…
  • This Orange Juice ---> Simply Orange with Mango. If you buy a 13 oz container at a convenience store it has 850mg of potassium.
  • Orange Chicken-less bites ( vegitarian orange chicken - even my carnivorous friends can not tell they are meat free ) Going Bananas - Dark Chocolate covered frozen banana slices Classic Hummus - I tried them all the classic is where its at though Falafel Chips <--- Eat the hummus with these and nothing else, you will not…
  • Living is super cheap out here - I own a townhome (have a mortgage) but the total cost was $101,000 brand new. 2BR 2Ba 2 Car Garage, Stainless steel, wood and ceramic flooring, etc. and quality construction. I am thinking something similar in Cali would probably be closer to the 300k range, but my income would certainly…
  • ^^ Talk about generalizing - what is this? Seriously why so uppity dude - I have lived in "hicksville" all my life but am probably less of a "Hick" than anyone. Stop being so smug...
  • Be careful not to stereotype by gender - what applies to one not necessarily to another. In my group of friends acquaintences it is quite the opposite.
