Many fruits are high in calories and carbs - bananas are a case in point. Great to include them but in moderation, hence the need to count them - try berries which are much lower in cals. Veg is usually better 'value' too, but peas, sweetcorn etc can also add up. I can understand how on WW most veg are 'free' but I think…

Just to put another point of view: I took phentermine under medical supervision and found it very helpful in managing early evening hunger. Of course what actually makes the difference is a healthy diet and exercise, but phentermine did help me over the very difficult first few months. I've lost 50lbs, am now at target…

I find this the hardest time of day too - am usually insane with hunger by the time I get in from work! I try and have supper as soon as I can (tho' this can be difficult as husband often doesn't get in till much later) while I still feel in control. Otherwise I tend to pick and snack which is fatal. I also try and stay…

Well done! What a thrill that is to see the numbers go down! Now the finishing line's in sight, and a whole new you.

You look fantastic! And the other thing I noticed is how great your skin looks - you've got a real glow. Congratulations and look forward to seeing the pictures after the next 27lbs!

Men always seem to make a quicker start than women - don't know why this is, but I've seen it several times. So don't measure your success by your partner's! If you are being honest with your recording, your body will catch up. Don't know where you are in your cycle but that can also make a difference - the week before my…

Soooo useful, thanks so much. I'm also trying to get the hang of maintenance - It's a whole new skill, isn't it!

As a mum of two too I so relate to this - it's hard to find head space to think about your own diet and exercise when you've got young kids. Don't think about the long journey - concentrate on the first half-stone. That's enough to feel the difference and then you'll find you're on a roll - success breeds success. Keep…

A tablespoon is a volume measurement - ie 15 millilitres - not a weight one, so the weight of the foodstuff will depend on its density. So if you're using a standard tablespoon you'll be OK - the calorie count will be accurate.

Don't be ashamed, be proud - you've done so fantastically well! But I know what you mean - people ask that question with all sorts of motives and you can get some funny reactions - sometimes people feel you're passing judgement on them, or that it's open season to pass all sorts of personal comments. So it's fine to say 'I…

Families eh. Definitely, trust your professional adviser, not someone who's obviously got issues of his own. And don't give up, you're doing so well! Deep respect for all the effort you're putting in - and don't forget, you're not doing it for your Dad or anyone else, you're doing it for you, so don't let anyone else get…

Hi Sierrasmommy - it is very personal what works for you, but this is what works for me! recording religiously on this site has really helped me (I'd lost 25lbs before starting here, but hit a plateau: now I'm only 4lbs from my goal). Regular exercise: I ride my bike to and from work every day (30 mins) and do yoga once a…

Weight is a major issue for almost all women regardless of whether they have a problem or not...it brings up all sorts of feelings, conscious or unconscious, about what we *should* or *should not* be doing and about how we feel about our bodies and ourselves. So it can be hard to talk to others about your challenges…

Clearly something that is designed for whole populations can give wrong answers for individuals - but that doesn't invalidate its use as a general tool (one among many) for assessing what you should aim to weigh. And after all, it does allow for pretty big variations - around 30lb for someone of my height - so it takes…

Don't forget you're still 70lbs slimmer than you used to be - congratulate yourself you haven't put it all back, so you have obviously gained some good habits and stayed healthier than you were. Plus of course you know you can do it now! MFP is really helpful, but don't forget to take advantage of any other help you can…
