  • Thanks. I wish i had set the bar at 5lbs :) I was --supposed-- to just go all in with the "no sugars, no grains", but I ended up bringing regular snacking on chips back into my life. MFP helps keep me in tough and mindful of what I'm eating.
  • Thanks folks. I am feeling much better...didn't even realize I was feeling bad. I'm sleeping better, no more snoring, no more sleep apnea, no more taking anti anxiety meds at night. I don't nap nearly as much, I exercise every day. My feet no longer hurt. I don't get sweaty bending down to plug a computer in, or just…
  • Yep, I dropped WW. After a couple weeks of tracking with both...I saw that I was depending more on MFP for my decisions. After two months, I just got tired of tracking with both and stopped WW. Now I find myself moving more towards low carb/high fat...and MFP is terrific in that it shows you your carb/fat/protein mix.
  • Anything can be destructive to your mental state. Sorry you fixated on carbs, but there is nothing about a low carb diet that leads to fixation -- no more so than on any diet that says "eat this, not that" -- which is pretty much all diets. The trouble with ANY diet is the notion when you go back to weight gaining ways of…
  • Great topic...roasted veggies, grilled chicken breast, cup of strawberries...fav low cal meal of mine
  • Oops...I put this on the wrong board
  • File it under calisthenics. 5 min probably doesn't burn enough calories to track. However, we all start somewhere. I'm with you, 5min is all I can do. But by doing that 5min today, and tomorrow, and so on...I will get to where I can do 10, then 20. Good for you for doing the 5
  • Diet will do more for that than exercise. In addition to diet, look for exercises tht strengthen you're core. Try P90 or P90X
  • Great idea. Perhaps I'll buy a large shirt (currently XXL-Tall) and work towards fitting into it
  • Two eggs over easy, toast with jam, glass of milk, and a banana for breakfast. Grilled chicken, salad, maybe a side of pasta for lunch Pork chop or steak, baked or mashed potatoes, green beans or broccoli for supper Scoop of vanilla for desert. It's not hard to eat a healthy balanced diet and have far more than 800…
  • From the very article...a Dr. said "'There is an overwhelming wealth of evidence showing that caffeine does increase alertness levels by acting as a stimulant on the central nervous system by prompting the release of adrenaline,' he said. "
  • If you are eating your daily points....you will NOT go into "starvation mode". People who fast do not gain weight because they are in "starvation mode". You don't lose weight by eating more. You can eat so little that it's unhealthy for you....but the WW DP is never set that low.
  • I gotta ask...does it matter? It's exercise and diet. If you exercise and diet, your body shape will improve. If you exercise and diet rigorously, your body will improve more quickly. It's not whether "P90x works", it's whether YOU work. As for me, I have the rubber band and the P90 videos...as I know I'm not ready for the…
  • If it wasn't for exercise....quite a lot. With exercise....it's once in a awhile...maybe once every other week.
  • :: Calories in, calories out! It really is that simple...and that hard ;) MFP is just a tool to help us really see what we are eating. We still have to eat less calories than we burn in order to lose weight.
  • If you are tracking accurately...then you are left with eating even fewer calories, and exercising more. There's no magic to this. To eat less and yet not feel starved, look to good value items...vegetables, berries, fruits. Check out the book "Volumetrics", but it basically comes down to....eat more vegetables and fruits.…
  • You beat me to it. A bowl of Chobani and Strawberries. A delicious treat. Any kind of fruit in season.
  • Eat even less, move even more. Tracking doesn't cause you to loose weight. Eating less calories than you burn does. You could be tracking wrong, not assigning enough calories as your food really has. Things like underestimating portion size. Do you have a food scale? However, all that will do is confirm that you need to…
  • Keep in mind that ultimately your scale and your tape measure will let you know what is or isn't working for YOU. It is what you eat and how you move that affects whether or not your gain or lose weight. Tracking is just a tool to help guide you.
  • Love to take credit for that quote, but I heard it on a WW forum
  • Great problem to have, says the guy with120 more lbs to lose :). It's always alright to change ones goals. You've hit "healthy BMI" that's a victory no matter how much lower you originally desired. However, I do caution you on paying much attention to what OTHERS think you should weigh or look like
  • Hating yourself is as bad as overheating. Your human, you have good days and bad lime the rest of us. I bet you are a great friend to others. How about talking to yourself like you would your best friend? Would you beat up your best friend for having a bad day or two?
  • Losing weight is hard, being fat is hard. Choose your hard. Write down a list of all the things you'd like about being fit and healthy. As an example, I long to be able to buy normal sized clothing verses Big and Tall. I'd love to fit comfortably in an airline seat. Write another list about what you don't like about being…
  • You can always just et les points, you don't NEED to change the tracking tool (though you can)
  • Thanks for sharing your experience. I've started tracking with both WW and the MFP app.
  • Thanks, and good luck on your own journey
  • I would think that would be expected. MFP divvies up your calories daily. WW sets aside some of your calories as "weeklies" and some of your calories to prepay for fruits and vegetables. Thus, WW calls them "0 points", when we know they have calories. So, following MFP, you'll eat more than your DP on WW. You are actually…
  • Great thread, the kind of info I was looking for. I'm on WW Online, and my wife uses MyFitnessPal. I like the PP system over straight calories, but my wife is doing quite well. And frankly, I think $18 is rather stiff. I prepaid for four months, so I don't know what I'll do at the end. It's good to hear folks like the…
  • A certain amount of fruits and vegetables are calculated into your DP target. In essence they are "prepaid". Of course they are not really "free" as in "zero calories". And yes, folks can stall their weight loss or even gain weight by eating too much fruit. Still, as they say "none of us got fat eating too much fruit and…
  • I don't eat my AP. I'd like to lose weight faster. Then again, I'm not dealing with hunger. So far, I have enough points MOST days. Still, if I'm hungry, I eat. One of the keys to long term success (so I hear, I'm just starting out), is to not feel deprived, to not feel like you are on a diet. So, judge for yourself. Will…
