Congratulations! I'm planning on running three of them this year but they are all road races. Haven't heard of any trail run halfs in my area.

My opinion is it's all about the socks. I run exclusively in DryMax socks. You should be able to find them at a store that caters to runners and running gear. Blisters aren't just about friction, but more about moisture buildup. DryMax socks are so effective at wicking moisture away that they actually come out of the…

Put down the beer and cigarettes and lace up some running shoes.

Anything with holes. Especially if it's new.

The easy answer for why it's easier to run faster outside compared to a treadmill is INERTIA! Once you get moving outside your body wants to stay in motion, therefore you expend less energy and the run feels easier and is faster. Treadmill running isn't actually moving. It's fine for some cardio work but the lack of…

I've had this issue on ellipticals and arc trainers. I personally believe it is due to having your feet planted in one place for so long. 30 - 45 minutes into an elliptical session my feet go numb yet I can run for two hours without an issue at all. My personal advice, just find a street, path, or trail and run baby, run!

When I started my diet and exercise program I was over 260 lbs. I started with the elliptical at the gym. Within a few weeks I was regularly going for an hour or more. A couple of months later I got outside and started walking, eventually adding short jogging periods (1/4 to 1/2 mile at a time). As the weight came off and…

I realize that I'm late to the party with an answer, but my general rule is to go shorter and on a different surface if I'm hurting a little after a long run. However, if there are blisters involved I would definitely take the day off from running.

February 26 - 4.38 miles WTD - 4.38 MTD - 65.09 Miles to goal - 34.91 I figure a lost about a week's worth of running to sickness and unexpected travel so hitting 75 miles this month will make me happy. My goal for March is 100 miles.

I've tried the chocolate waffle stinger once. It is on the dry side, but quite tasty. I did, however, slow to a walk to open and eat it. I think when it comes time to actual race a half marathon where I'll need to refuel on the run, I'll stick to Rev Honey U-tubes. They are little tubes of flavored honey with a screw top.…

A year ago I was a fat former HS runner that hadn't broken an athletic sweat in over 25 years. Now I'm 70+ pounds lighter and I'm on my way to running 1500 miles in 2013. Add me!

Church pew. Not one of the nice padded ones either. Old school wooden bench which amplified and allowed for a bit of an echo. Of course, the worse part was that I was the visiting preacher. I don't think I was invited back to that church to preach again.

I'll be playing catch-up till the end of the month to make my goal. I am currently 500 miles from home for the funeral of my uncle. I don't know…

Born in Washington, IA. I've also lived in Osceola, Keokuk, Vinton, Davenport, Keokuk (again), Atlantic, Van Wert, Dexter, Farmington, Grimes, Johnston, Urbandale, and finally Des Moines. My wife would love a warmer climate but I won't consider leaving Des Moines as long as my parents are still living which I hope is a…
