Well my weight gain came from not exercising as well as body image issues. I was covering my body and not realizing I was gaining weight until my clothes were super tight. Here's what I have to say. I had to train my body to only need 1500 a day. Yes, that's more than 1200, but I also make sure to exercise and such. The trick was that I couldn't just hop right in. I gained 10 lbs when I went on it, but that was 2 years ago. I gained a lot more of my weight from poor eating and medications I had been on that were tons worse. Too true. Sometimes the only way to combat the craving is to just give in, otherwise you will be trying to satisfy your "hunger" with things that your brain isn't begging for.
