I do Starting Strength. Bought all my equipment on Craig's List for under "400.00. Met with a weightlifting trainer twice to correct form. Watch lots of vids on the lifts.

Brilliant idea. I was wondering how I would start chin ups.

SIX pounds not eight. Whoops.

Great post!!

I am 54 and have only been lifting heavy weight for just over 8 weeks. I had done the deficit (1200) cals for about six weeks prior and dropped seven pounds in the first two weeks, then nothing for four weeks and I was hungry. I started lifting somewhere in that plateau and joined this group where I read that I should be…

So good to see women my age here! I am also 54 and a I am a beginner.

I want to THANK whoever suggested I up my calorie intake to my TDEE and not eat back exercise. I have been having the hardest time losing weight. Well, not anymore it seems. I stepped on the scale after six weeks of not doing so and I have lost six pounds. I was shocked and very pleased. The lifting is changing my body…

I was eating at a deficit (1200) before I joined the 5X5 group and I had not lost any weight for four weeks. I had just started to lift. Someone here suggested I eat my TDEE and not eat back exercise. I was worried that I would gain big time because I have been having such a hard time losing weight for a few years. I…

Well done!

Yeah, baby! How long have you been lifting?
-
I read NROLFW first too. Then SS. I've only been lifting for five weeks and was so weak I only started adding weight last week, but I am already seeing and feeling a difference. Go girl!

Amazing results! Congrats an good work.
-
I use my "gloves" to lift in as well as trail walk/run in. Love them.
-
I do this with my dogs every day. Long walks and hikes on the river and mountain trails. My stress buster. ENJOY!

Very excited. It was just too hard to find a gym with a lighter bar and smaller increments of weight and no line up for the squat rack.
-
Thx ladies. Bought 170 lbs. of metal weight and a bar today. Tomorrow I pick up mats and set it all up. Very excited. Have sent the Mehdi vid's to both kids emails. I am grateful for this group and all the inspiring posts.

Hey I got a rack! A squat rack that is. After a month of me lifting my nineteen yr. old daughter says I want to do whatever you're doing that is changing your body like that. I know what she means. You can kind of see a different body inside the pudge coming through. Some definition happening. My son said he'd lift too if…

Hey Kaleo made the Huff Post today. Cool. http://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/2013/05/23/kaleo-diet-why-weight-gai_n_3323567.html

So impressed with everyone! W/0 A Week 4 Moved to a gym with 2.5 increments of weight. S 50 lbs. BP 30 lbs. R 50 lbs. Iffy about my form here, even though I watch vids. Must read up on rows in starting strength. I have just finished the squat section. Love that book.
-
Thx!! A month in now and I have just started adding weight. Feels so good.
-
Like you I don't seem to be able to eat all my cals some days, but I am working at it. Good to hear about your body changes!

WO B Week 4 I added weight for the first time. It has taken me almost four weeks to get confident enough about my form and to start to feel stronger in my everyday life to add weight. S still 45 because of lack of small increments at gym. This is getting fixed Wed. OHP 25 My cranky shoulder did not protest in the…

Way To Go!! I only started a month ago and I love lifting!

^^ Yes, experimenting is key, I see. I put on a spaghetti strap shirt today, which I usually only wear around the house and garden because of my flabby upper arms and loose skin to the sides of my breasts. Well, I did a double take in the the mirror, because though my arms are still pudgy that loose skin in the lat place…

Even in the all female gym where I have been lifting I haven't seen one other woman use the squat rack. The Smith, machine, yes, squat rack, no.
-
Whoops, I didn't make myself clear. I worked out at the gym I joined a month ago and THEN went gym shopping, so I didn't work out in the man hive. Now that would have been pushing way beyond my comfort zone :) Maybe when I'm squatting 185 ;)
-
This is definitely encouraging. I am noticing a difference in how my clothes fit. I am not going to weight myself for a few weeks while I try the TDEE and no eating back cals.

WO A today. After feeling so good two days ago with WO B I decided it was time to add weight, only to find out that my gym's smallest increments are 5 lbs. UGH. No way was I going to squat 55 instead of the bar. S 45 BP 20 R 50 After my workout I checked out two other gyms. Fitness world has the increments and said they…
