  • I can say that keto helps me feel better overall. That said, my way to make keto work runs between 50-80g daily carbs because I’m fat-burning in that range, and I get sick if I go under 50g too many days in a row. Listen to your body. And keep in mind that keto can be incredibly unhealthy if you go with artificial…
  • Day 4. Hanging in there despite dd’s chocolate cupcakes on the counter...
  • (p.s. amen about prep. It really helps me stay on track.)
  • Back on paleo (was primal, but sadly must concede that dairy and I do not get along at all) starting with a Whole30 for a kickstart. Day 3.
  • Yay. I can’t wait until I can say the same (on paleo 90 days). I bet I’ll be feeling a lot better than I do today.
  • Back on again, mostly. Had ice cream tonight, but that’s the last of what was in the freezer. Have a fridge and freezer full of healthy, delicious food.
  • I’ve read that gout is related to arthritis. As far as arthritis, my joints are most affected by carbs in general, sugar in particular, and nightshades. Paleo has been very helpful in reducing pain and restoring function. That said, these articles may offer some insight. They seem to agree that fructose is one of the main…
  • Yup. Either eggs, breakfast sausage, or leftovers from dinner. I like to serve eggs over sweet potato hash browns, or fried mashed sweet potatoes, or even over salad with a sprinkling of balsamic and sea salt.
  • Arrowroot related to cassava? Bummer. Will have to look into that. Am thinking about tiger nut flour.
  • I will have to try it! I think I'll have to order it from Amazon.
  • Update: AIP eating can be a funny (not haha) thing. Yesterday I posed about how I can eat some nightshades, once in a while (not oftener than once or twice a month) and not have pain and stiffness. I was able to add potatoes first, then Mexican seasoning (chiles and peppers), and finally a limited amount of tomatoes.…
  • Joint pain and stiffness (diagnosed as arthritis) much decreased through Paleo (sometimes primal with full fat dairy). Restless leg gone. Bloating only comes back when I eat grains or non-full-fat dairy. I avoid nightshades most of the time. I used to get three days of pain and stiffness if I'd eat nightshades, but after…
  • Put cauliflower rice in the chicken soup tonight. Really nice touch!
  • Came down sick yesterday with sinus-throat crud. No appetite. Spent a lot of time sleeping and stuck to really simple food. What are your Paleo go-to comfort foods?
  • Veggies and fruit (especially seeds and peels) are great sources of fiber. Salads, stir-fried veggies, roasted veggies are all ways I get veggies in. Oh, steamed with lots of butter if you can do dairy (I have come to love artichokes!). I don't do much fruit, so most of my fiber comes from vegetables.
  • No rhyme or reason. Yes, definitely on the bottom shelf, with the coldest temps toward the back. But stuff can freeze at the top or in the middle, too. I have the temp turned down as far as it goes (I mean, set at "1" which is the warmest fridge setting).
  • p.s. I don't do the math for carbs, I just go with what MFP says they are in my food log. If my carb count is in reality lower than what my food log says because of fiber, it doesn't bother me.
  • Don't be afraid of fat! Just so long as it is the "healthy" fats--from pastured animals, avocados, coconut oil, palm oil, fatty fish like wild caught salmon, that sort of thing. If you can't afford grass fed meat, then cut the extra fat off conventional meat and increase the amount of other fats--for example, you can make…
  • That happened to me five years ago--for me, it turned out that MFP's recommended 1200 calories was not enough. Someone on the primal/paleo board suggested eating more calories. I did some web research and settled on a range of 1500-1800. I didn't always get that high as, just like you mentioned, this way of eating is…
  • I love the 100-calorie guacamole packs from Wholly Guacamole. With a package of baby carrots or some cut-up celery, that stuff fills a void and keeps me going. I have an Epic bar and a pecan pie Larabar (all that's in it are dates and pecans) in my purse for emergencies, but I hardly ever have to draw on them. Good thing,…
  • My fridge is wonky. Need to schedule a repairman at some point. Often it freezes my vegetables. I love make-ahead ideas, even though I don't make any make-ahead Mason jar salads right now, because of that freezing problem. I've been thinking about chia pudding, but didn't think it fit Whole30 restrictions. I have to admit,…
  • Sugar inflames my joints, so, yeah... a likely culprit.
  • I am lucky to get in 2k a day... but I aim for that. Definitely in on the Whole30. Hopefully it will help the joint pain enough that I'll be able to walk farther by the end of the month.
  • Saturated fats are our friends! Lol. But maybe dairy is not. Check out marksdailyapple.com, for one resource. Google "eat fat to lose fat". One important distinction is the kind of fat you eat. The "eat fat to lose fat" crowd call "healthy" the saturated and monosaturated fats, like coconut oil, avocados, fat from pastured…
  • (My fav veggie dish right now is spinach salad 2-4 c spinach) with hot bacon dressing.
  • Welcome. I really am not wild about vegetables, but I am finding ways to enjoy eating them. I was shocked when I read Terry Wahl's advice to eat 9 cups of veggies a day? Or was it 12? I don't remember, just some impossible-sounding number...
  • I hear that's pretty common; some people who stop drinking alcohol end up craving sugar, sweets, fruit. I think something is missing in the middle of your post, though, as it sounds like binging on sugar took you from 250 to 175...?
  • Welcome! Update on the sinuses--much less sneezing, and I didn't have to take Claritin this morning to function.
  • I would add that it really depends on the individual. Someone might do best on 0 carbs (Aki is doing that, last I heard). I go into ketosis between 50-80g of carbs a day. Odd but true. If I drop below 50g of carbs a day (I tried to stay under 30g a day at one point, when I was hanging out with keto folks), I start to feel…
  • Is there a PB Facebook group, by chance?
