  • I have been using MFP since last summer and, at this point, I am not weighing. I am still tracking my calorie intake and exercise every day but I am not concentrating on weight right now.
  • Hang in there! It will become more of a habit the longer you stick to it. My younger son got me started on MFP in late June. I think I listed my starting weight as 300lbs,(but I LIED, it was actually 309! Just could not bring myself to admit that!) As of last week, had lost a total of 41 lbs, down to 268. Still leaves me a…
  • I have lost almost exactly 35lbs. I have been working on it since the end of June so about 4 1/2 months but I had a lot to lose. My goal is 80lbs so you can see I have just started.
  • There is. a huge difference between giving up and having a setback. It is never too early to go back to taking care of yourself. Just try to look at it as giving yourself the energy to do the things for your mother that you know will have to be done. Think how much easier it will be for you to do them if you feel better…
  • Don't kno about your scales but mine ned to be on a hard floor to work properly. Carpet really screws them up
  • I get up early so I have time to ride my stationary bike BEFORE I go to work. I have gotten to the point where my day would feel strange if I didn't start it out that way. I watch the news, weather and traffic report to pass the time (I ride for 60 minutes), then I either ride another 30 minutes after work or else I walk…
  • I am 6'1" ( is that close enough?) and I am 57 years old. I started at 303 (But I couldn't admit it so I said 300!) My goal is 220 and at that weight, I will be lighter than I have been since high school and i was 14 then. Athough I would love to be around 200, I think that is unrealistic for me.
  • Several people have replied with basically the same advice: Break it up into smaller more manageable goals. Good advice! Also find NON FOOD rewards for reaching a goal. Remember, food has been the problem so why use it as a reward? I just tarted a few weeks ago and I set my exercise goal as 30 minutes ofr stationary bike…
  • I log food intake as I go but I save the exercise log until I am done for the day, usually before dinner. That allows me to have a better idea of what I can have for dinner. I also try to be finished with eating a couple of hours before bedtime because it seems to help me sleep better.
  • Even though I have only been on MFP a few weeks, I find it more inspiring for me to weigh no more often than once a week. Daily fluctuations drive me nuts but it seems that weekly weighins always show a downward trend
  • Because I have bad knees (4 surgeries on the right, one on the left!), I am sticking to bike riding until I get more weight off.
  • Unfortunately you can only be responible for you. Even though you want so badly to help your family, you really already know that the only one who can make a decision to change their life is that family member. What you CAN do is do your best to make the necessary changes in your own life and hope that your example will be…
  • I'm in. I have a recumbent stationary bike and I ride 1 1/2 hours a day, usually averaging about 14-15 miles daily. I ride 7 days a week, mainly because I fear that a complete day off would make me lazy again. (Yeah! I know! SILLY!)
  • Apparently a lot of people do the same thing I do. I don't add my exercise calories back in until the end of the day and I am always ending up way under for the day. I have stopped worrying about it because I am a lot more inclined to only eat when I am hungry now so it has become more difficult to eat my entire allotment…
  • I have only been on MFP about two months and I can tell you that it DOES take some time to adjust your eating habits. The first thing I found to help myself was to start taking my meals and snacks from home instead of eating out. I can pack what I want and I already know what the calorie count is before I have the first…
  • I have started getting up earlier so I have time to ride my exercise bike before work. I watch the news, traffic and, even some on demand stuff to pass the time. I know it is difficult with small children bur I bet your family will understand you taking some time for yourself, especially when you strt to get back in shape…
  • It might also help to check measurements instead of just weight. Your exercise may be building more muscle and, even though you gain a little weight, you may find that you are actually reducing inches!

  • My wife actually gained wieght when she first started MFP. She determined that she was probably eating less before she started tracking calories so she went back to eating like she normally did but added exercise and now the weight has started to come off. Hang in there! You will make it!!

  • Funny! That is exactly the same thing I did. I have a total of about 80 pounds I want to lose and that seemed like an insurmountable goal so I broke it down into 10 pound mini goals. I only recird my weight after each 10 lb loss. Every time I do, MFP naturally lowers my allotted calories. When it does, I try to up my daily…
  • I have only been on MFP for a few weeks. My younger son and his wife have been using it for some time and recommended it to me. It has been the best thing I have found in a long time. I started in late June at 300 lbs. (I am 6'1") I have been trying to set small, intermediate goals so I don't get overwhelmed by the sheer…
