  • There will be skinny people, I wont lie to you... But there will also be fat people, old people, awkward people, fit people... There will be all kinds of people, most of whom are just as self conscious as you. Go anyway! Have fun, and be sure to smile and talk to people, you'll probably find that 95% of them are super…
  • Fresh wild salmon (caught on Saturday) with lemon and dill & roasted carrots and beets from the garden.
  • I am 5'3" and ~145. My first goal is to get into the 130's (seriously 139.9 would rock my world!!!) Aiming to taper off my "weight loss" mindset around 130-135 lbs, and from there my primary focus will be on healthy eating and building muscle, with a "trigger weight" of 140. We can do this!!!
  • The stress of what you're going through is going to impact you more than the additional alcohol.

  • I get dramatically different readings from my Polar FT60, my Body Media FitLINK, and MFP. Personally, for the money, I think the FitLINK is the most accurate.
  • If what you're doing is working, and you feel good, then I say stick with it. If things stop working, try something new. P.S. This is general advice, and if you have any major health concerns I recommend talking to your doctor about your overall plan for the new healthier You.

  • Sure! I'm going for 50 total (I don't have 50 more to lose) but I'm always looking for new motivation!
  • A good deal for a gym membership is less about what you pay for it, and more about what you get for your money. My gym charges $165/mo for the regular memberships. I get a discount for their buddy program since my husband goes with me, which is $115/mo each. Then, we pay 6 months in advance and get a month free, so for us,…
  • If the pain's that bad you should see a doctor. Seriously, I started taking Toradol injections during my cycle and I'm a whole new woman! Once you get your symptoms under control, vigorous exercise actually lowers estrogen levels and reduces discomfort. As odd as it sounds, regular exercise will actually HELP with what's…
  • They'll cook a lot faster than the other items... I'd put them in 15-20 min before the pork & onions are done, otherwise they'll be a mushy mess and wont taste very good.
  • Congrats!!! That's so exciting!!! My recommendation would be to order your dress now, and buy the size that would fit you NOW. Then, in a few months when it arrives, go in for the fitting and know that you'll have plenty of room to fit it to your new fitter self. The thing to remember about buying a dress, even if you…
  • Well, I'm still counting... I was on it for 3 years and gained about 50 lbs. So far I've lost 1/2 of it... I've been off the shot for about 2.5 years, but I haven't been trying to lose consistently. I'm hoping to have the last of it gone by the end of this year.
  • This is largely an opinion thing, but my two cents is weight loss doesn't happen from one day to the next-- it's a long term commitment, so as long as your AVERAGE is in line your goals, you'll see results. Don't focus so heavily on the exact numbers from day to day, instead focus on meeting your goal each day and keeping…
  • Well i haven't quite reached the 30 lb. but I'm always willing to have new friends. :-)
  • My first question is this: Have you seen a SPECIALIST about your desire to lose weight and the possibility of weight loss surgery? If not, then what your doctors think about the topic is only marginally more informative than the information you can obtain from the web yourself. A common misconception is that doctors are…
  • I think there are some that sync with MPF, but mine (Polar FT60) at least does not. I just manually input my time and calories after each workout. No calculations needed really, my HRM has a little summary screen and I just copy the numbers into the tracker here.
  • Well, I'm not a mom, and I'm farther along in my journey, but I'm the same height and about the same age. I'm 5'3", almost 25 and I am about 151 as of this morning. My goal is about 130. I'm new here, so I can use all the friends I can get!
  • My sister has lost 37 lbs doing the 30 Day Shred DVD & the C25K program, you can get the DVD through Netflix or super cheap on places like e-bay and the C25K is a free program/app you can download to your phone. It's definitely worked for her!
  • There's no shortage of that! I am just getting back into the swing of things too.
  • My father-in-law (a diabetic) sent me home with a full box of Harry & David's cookies and cakes last night when they were delivered to him in a care package. They are still in the back seat of my car. Bless them for putting the nutritional info on each and every individually wrapped item. As good as those double chocolate…
  • You're probably not eating enough, going from 1-2k to 8-9k steps is a HUGE difference in your daily routine. I still can't get the whole activity level thing sorted out in my own brain, but my suggestion would be to bump up your calories by 200-300 per day for a few weeks and see if that makes you feel better, and of…
  • Been there... Not with the next/spine pain, but my joints are basically imploding on themselves, I fell off the wagon and stopped exercising for several months and unsurprisingly my pain got worse! So, now I'm back, with another 25 lbs to lose. and today is day 4! WE CAN DO THIS!!!
  • For me, when it comes down to it, true calorie counting will ALWAYS work, it's the basic math of it... it's being accurate and consistant that's the tough part... I've found that when I'm eating a paleo diet, keeping right around my calorie goal is EASY, and I tend to do it naturally, even when I'm not tracking…
  • Have you ever considered purchasing a HRM? Personally I like the Polar FT4 model. It's about $90-100 new, but you can usually find them for way cheaper on eBay and things. I've had a lot of success with mine.
  • Likely, Yes. But, it depends... where did you come up with the goal of 1,200? Below is an EXAMPLE of how you might calculate a calorie target, using the Harris Benedict Equation: According to that equation you start with your Base Metabolic Rate (BMR) which is calculated as follows: Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in…
  • How have you LIVED?!? I loooooove avocados! Seriously, I could eat them every day and not get tired of them, there's so much you can do with them! Dice them and toss them in salads Slice them with a little oil & vinegar Mash them with lime and cayenne for guacamole Blend them with some buttermilk and spices for some creamy…
  • Definitely not alone! I usually go through a cycle where I'm not hungry for 2-3 days, then all of a sudden I'm RAVENOUS and have absolutely NO self control! I've learned that on those days, it's best to not have any junk food around, otherwise I can't contain it, I'll just eat and eat, but if it's healthy food, I'll still…
  • I'm definitely not new to working out, I know the cause of the pain-- I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease-- I'll talk to my doc about glucosimine, that's not something I've explored yet, as well as the heat pack before exercise. ibprophen wont do any good, I'm on prescription anti-inflammatory meds 24/7. Thanks everyone…
  • For me, any repetitive movement and any joint that's connected with it. For squats-- my knees & hips. Push up-- it's my shoulders, running-- my feet & knees. Strength work it'll even get into my hands from the lifting.
