Welcome back!

You cannot control where your body stores fat. What you can control is muscle mass. I had the opposite problem that you describe- I lost weight everywhere except for butt/hips/thighs and ended up being skinny on top and still too fat below the waist. The only way I have been able to reshape my body is by weight lifting. I…

Is it too much? It depends on various factors, including but not limited to these that come to mind immediately: 1> Why does your doctor not want you to run, and have you asked about the elliptical? 2> What are your goals? 3> Is there anything else you should be doing with part of your day? I mean- if you weren't on the…

Well- I just joined a HealthShare instead of buying health insurance. I had to commit myself to a healthy lifestyle- there are lots of specifics depending on which one you join. The plan includes discounted gym membership, which I may check out. Also there is some sort of a plan for people without healthy lifestyles where…

Here's something different you could try: figure out your maintenance calories for the weight you want to be, and start eating that much. I am not sure what your goal weight is- but at 5'1" I imagine your maintenance calories are going to be under 1800. I've been at maintenance for about 5 years now. My maintenance is 1620…

Well- I'm only partially employed at the moment. There is a nice gym near me with all that stuff, but it's $40/mo and you have to make a minimum 1 year commitment. There's also a fee to join but they were willing to "waive" it when I went in. On the other hand, PF is only $10/mo and they will let me quit any time. So- I…

5'8" or 5'9" - depending on who measures me. Maintaining 135lb on 1620 calories plus I eat back my exercise calories (dog walk almost every day, gym 3x/ week). It's been very accurate for a number of years.
-
This depends on your starting point. If someone has been quite sedentary but starts walking, that will result in some muscle gain (and fat loss, assuming the person maintains caloric neutrality).

So- mine has been a moving target. Initially my goal was to get down to about 155 (the "top" of my normal range for height) but when I got there I was not satisfied. I bumped my goal down progressively, but then realized my problem was not weight but lost muscle mass. So, I started strength training with a goal of getting…

Exercise is the number one thing that will affect your HDL/LDL ratio (good and bad cholesterol). Diet will affect your total cholesterol. Focus on saturated fats- make that one of the things you track in MFP. To lower cholesterol you should try to get saturated fats less than 7% of your total calories. I'm working on the…

Welcome to MFP! It's great! I've been here for years. Honestly I have never gotten food scales but people do swear by them. I log salads by counting or approximating how much. However I ALWAYS MEASURE THE DRESSING. I am pretty neurotic about counting and measuring things that are high in fat and calories, not so much for…

"The heroic minute. It is the time fixed for getting up. Without hesitation: a supernatural reflection and … up. The heroic minute: here you have a mortification that strengthens your will and does no harm to your body. If, with God’s help, you conquer yourself, you will be well ahead for the rest of the day." It’s so…

I did, and it was a mistake from which it took me literally YEARS to recover. If you lose weight by diet and not exercise, you will lose a lot of muscle. I did not know that until it happened to me. I ended up being "skinny fat" which you can google and find out a lot of information. It has been a real struggle to try to…

I am bookmarking! I wanted a recipe for this!

Good for you! If you need 50-ish friends feel free to send me FR. We're all in this together! Welcome to MFP!

Check out the book "New Rules of Lifting for Women." It has a lot of great advice plus a good program.

I just came from the dentist. She asked me the same thing they always ask- do I drink coffee or tea? Yes. I am not willing to give it up. I second the comments above- I think frequent brushing and regular dental care, and accepting less-than-movie star-white is fine for me.

I broke my ankle a few years ago as well, casted for 4 weeks, then 2 more weeks NWB. It took me 2 YEARS to be able to run and jump again. BUT-even with a cast I did circuit training focusing on upper body. Use it as an opportunity to do something different!

Sounds good! Keep at it!

You have some great advice above. I have been on MFP for a long time, and in maintenance now for a long time. Feel free to send me a friend request if you want. Take it one day at a time, log "religiously," and try to fit some treats into your week once in a while. It will help you stay the course.
-
You are NOT doomed! Between MFP and weight training I have reproportioned my body and stabilized my weight right at my college weight, and all of that after age 45. My birthday present to myself for my 50th birthday was to do "men's" push-ups for the first time ever in my life. I am now 54 and working towards the goal of…

I just finished a container of Friendly's peanut butter cup extreme. It was yummy. I spaced it out over quite a few days, though- and it (mostly) fit in my macros.
-
I agree with the above posters- just start over the next day! I will add this: I while back I named one of my meals "Wish I Hadn't!" I don't log stuff there very often- but every once in a while I do! It reminds me that sometimes a treat is worth it- and sometimes it's not.

Salsa!! And/or skim milk cheese.

I agree with OGBrojas- everyone there has already been new before! I started out going to Curves and when I switched to a "real" gym to do weight training I was really nervous- but I found the trainer guy and asked for advice. So, ask what you don't know, and realize that most people are nice and want to be helpful. And…
