  • Best of luck! Remember to walk as much as possible after surgery, even though you really just want to sleep.
  • Wait - exercise and salads?!? Why did I never think of that?!? Think of the money I could have saved, and how long ago I could have been thin if I had only thought of more exercising and eating salads. Wow. Amazing that I never would have though or tried that. I am lucky that most of the people I interact with are…
  • I know they had me on a lot of saline the day of and day after surgery - about 5 bags - my doc told me one bag of that was about 2 lbs. So until all of that is out of your system....
  • Not too bad a flavor - better than the plain vanilla - the Chocolate is still my personal favorite. But it IS nice to have more than two to choose from.
  • One of the deciding factors I had discussed with my surgeon was acid reflux. I was beginning to show signs of this. Per Dr. C., the sleeve can contribute to this (i think he said along the lines of 27% chance or so) and the RnY eliminates this (99%). So that is what helped with my decision. He also said that he only took…
  • The 30/30 rule is no water (or drinking) 30 mins before or after a meal. Drinking with meals can cause the food to be washed through your pouch and cause nutrient mal-absorption.
  • Practice sipping your water now. That way, post-op, it is a habit
  • Keeping up on the water - just did my first "real" walk since surgery on Monday. I went around the block, .6 miles at about a 2 mph pace. It felt pretty good, no overt sharp pain, but definitely felt I had surgery, LOL. It was actually very nice out this morning, so that helped. One day at a time. Trying to increase my…
  • Thanks for the advice everyone; believe me, I get the importance of staying hydrated. I am always sipping from my ever-present water bottle. I do have an advantage, my wife, Maile had the surgery 3 years ago December, so she is being very vigilant about making sure I take in my fluid and do what I am supposed to do. Today…
  • I went through the Options class @ the Hollywood location. I am having my surgery in the West LA/Cadillac Street location. I am looking forward to it! Keep on the weight loss, my surgeon wants me to drop 20 pounds before surgery, as I didn't lose much during the class. Eric
  • One thing i have done before is a 'No weight' set, using the empty bar or lightest weights, run through the motion that you are about to do for 12 reps. That gets your form set before adding weight, plus moves the same parts you are about to use.
  • If you want to cut some carbs, check the Paleo/Primal diets - that is pretty much what they preach. They will have you cut out your grains, which may or may not work for you. Google "Mark's Daily Apple" for a great intro site to the primal style of eating/working out.
  • ^^^THIS. Start adding the calories in slowly - 100 or so every week to 2 weeks, and adjust as needed. Make sure they are quality calories, not junk, also. It is probably time to look at/revamp your exercise routine, and decide on adding/firming up any areas that you want. Being thin is not necessarily being healthy, so…
  • Nice insulin spike - you just completely confused the heck out of your system. As we eat healthier, our bodies (the amazing adaptable machines that they are) become more and more efficient at puling the needed macro- & micro- nutrients out of the foods that we consume. If you are eating a healthy diet, this usually means…
  • Lift heavy stuff. A lot.
  • Okay - you're starting point sucks. Hell, I am MORBIDLY OBESE. There's a nice term for ya. Smoking won't help, it is probably the absolute worst thing to do for yourself other than play chicken with a bus. Realize that where you currently are is not a destination just a point in your life. You're not happy here, so make…
  • Muscles do not grow during the workout phase, they grow during the rest phase. The workout actually tears them down, and the rest allows them to rebuild and get stronger. So, a rest day is important, at least one day a week.
  • For some reason, our society has placed a stigma on getting help psychologically when it is needed. We don't think twice about the doctor when we're hurt, or the dentist for a toothache, but seeing a shrink is seen as a sign of weakness. With the addiction that you are describing, I would recommend some type of…
  • I feel your pain on this. Quitting smoking is es compared to losing weight for me. Why? It is simple, really. You either smoke, or you do not. You do not have to smoke to live. Eating, now...well, we all have to do that to live. I gained after I quit in 2005. I m now addressing that issue, and working on making better…
  • Quitting smoking is a HUGE step towards getting healthier. The once piece of advice I would give is to log EVERYTHING on this site that you consume. That makes a big difference in the chances for success, and is one of the best tools this site offers.
  • However it is put on your plate prior to consumption.
  • More reasons to limit intake - while your body is burning the alcohol, want to guess what it is NOT burning? Yep, fat. Your body is a very effective machine, and will readily use the most available form of fuel it has available. Until your body oxidizes (burns) the alcohol in your bloodstream, it is not using much of the…
  • You might also try adding kale - it has lots of fiber, usually a slightly nutty flavor to it, not really bitter at all. Lots of iron, as well.
  • Omnivore. It's how we've evolved and survived, and I take advantage of the thousands of years of evolutionary process that allow me to enjoy everything.
  • Stone Brewery Arrogant *kitten* Ale. Actually, most anything from Stone Brewery.
  • I had done primal before, and lost steadily down from 330 to 270-ish. Then, well, life happens and I was eating things that I should't,, and BLAM - up to 311. The transition back to primal is harder on my fiancee than it is me - she is a Le Cordon Bleu trained chef, and the carbs are a big part of that style (french)…
  • That's my goal - to run the 2013 TM SoCal II. Congrats!
  • You can do it - stay focused. Send an add request to myself or Maile (48vixen is her user name) and we'll do our best to keep you on track. One day at a time, but do it EVERY DAY.
  • While 3500 calories does equal one pound of fat - muscle that you add via exercise is denser than fat. You can lose size, and still not lose weight or even gain, depending upon the situation.
  • One simple approach is to make small changes - we all know that to lose a pound a week it requires a calorie deficit of about 3500 calories. If the is drinking beer and/or soda, switching to water may be an easy way to induce a bit of a deficit. Include a walk in the evening for the two of you around the block or what have…
