So upset/weight loss

I gave away my scale which was a sunbeam nothing special non-digital scale. It said I weighed 135.. While at Walmart 3 days later I got the chance to test out a newer digital scale which weighed me at 142?? Wtf!?! I was really peeved and pissed off .. I dnt know how much to subtract for my jacket jewelry and clothes etc. but I'd assum only 3 lbs that' still leaves me at 139 .. Also i dnt know if it's because I'ts only been a month and I'm getting impatient. But I go hard on my work outs I bike ride at least 5 hours a week and just started doing tae-Bo for about an hour every night. At this rate I'm looking to lose 8 lbs a month . is this possible? From my understanding 3500 = 1 lb. if MFP sets me at 1200 aren't I already at a deficit? And should expect to lose weight. Also I can't afford a monitor to measure my actual cals burned. It bugs me that I'll never really know since everyone sesz mFP overestimates a lot.. Grr

To be quite honest, no two scales will measure exactly the same. That's why it's important to always use the same scale when weighing yourself.

Oh I have been there, what a shock it was for me +5lbs! It sucks but you'll have to "lose that weight again!"

It felt like the previous scale was such a liar!

My digital scale matches up to the one at the doctors office.
Along with subtracting the weight of your outerwear, did you also factor in the time of day you weighed as you gain/lose throughout the day?
Oh, Walmart carries a HRM for $28 and one for $38, don't know if that helps, or not... Good Luck. :)

The scales at the gym tell me I'm 3.5kgs heavier than my one at home - I'll believe the home one!! LOL

While 3500 calories does equal one pound of fat - muscle that you add via exercise is denser than fat. You can lose size, and still not lose weight or even gain, depending upon the situation.

I weighed myself at night while window shopping for a new scale. I was pretty mortified and that's exactly how I felt lol like what a liar. I'm staying away for now I can't keep letting a number discourage me. Not knowing what I weigh NOW is annoying since my previous scale was most likely a pathological liar. Ha. But as a response to the muscle gain, I can understand this. That's why I'm staying away from the scale for a month my pants fit more loosely and I fit into shirts Ive packed away months ago. So my tummy did go down along with my arms and thighs. My mid-section is what seems to boggle my mind. I'm loosing all of my weight in my as* but I like my bum lol. I'm wondering when it will start to come of my middle section. I know you can't spot reduce and weight comes off all around . But its looking like the. Majority of it melted off my bum. :/. Now that I'm over -Nt having a nice bum haha. I'm just pondering when it'll melt off my mid section. So being at 1200 calories threw MFP am I already at a deficit I never understood it. Am I supposed to burn into that 1200 to make a difference? Or am I already at a deficit?

I can easily be 4lb different between a night time weigh in and a morning, after-toilet; usually more like 2lb however.

Oh and to add, to that, my scales jump 4lb up and down; if it's showing high, a quick knock over with the side of your foot will get you 4lb off. I stuck 20kg of weight lifting weights on there and they came out at 20.45kg or something when it was at the 4lb-lower position, so decided the friendly option was correct :).

Providing you were losing weight on your old scales, it's not really a problem. It's just a number and if the number goes down relative to the old number, you're probably heading for what you want :).

For me the midsection seems to be the one that the flab sticks the hardest too. 31 lbs down and there it still is :( However, I do realize this is probably my own fault as my food choices are not always the healthiest despite being w/in my calorie limit.

Scales can be wacky. Get a scale that you like, and weigh at the same time every day or week, in the same location of your house wearing the same clothes. I weigh myself in the morning before breakfast, in the nude. It is kind of hard to screw up the weight with extra clothing if I'm naked.

I just got a digital scale too (replaced a subbeam analog) and it is much more accurate. It was also depressing. I did, however, compare the two scales side by side and they gave about the same reading.

    Not the scale, it's me.

But, as you say, it's that TOM and I know I've been eating what I should and exercising more. My clothes fit better and I can see more muscle and more lean. So it's just what it is.

    It's only a number.

    1. Your scale at home could have been measuring lighter
    2. The scale at the store could have been measuring heavier
    3. It was probably a different time of day than you are used to weighing yourself
    4. Clothes put on much more than you think.

If you are going to measure by pounds, you need ot measure on the same scale under the same conditions. For instance, I always make sure that if I am doing a weigh-in, I go to the bathroom and put as few clothes on as possible - preferably naked. Also to make sure your scale is right, take one of your weights and see how the scale reads it. My digital scale won't read less than 25lbs, so I had to take something that I KNEW was 25lbs at least and put it on there.

Hang in there, its rough but don't let this discourage you!

Yep I was thinking this exactly .. Even if my scale was off on my original weight I still lost 10 lbs for certain because I used the same scale from the beginning of my weight loss journey till when I stopped weighing myself last week. I think I'm just gonna keep using the old scale and maybe in 2 months buy a new one and see exactly where I am at or schedule a check up with the doctor. Scales are a true pain in the as* lol
