@apullum I know you're right, but the reminder is always good! @liftingbro I do take medication. I think I'd be dead by now if I didn't!! I love the results of your heart attack risk assessment. Nice work! @kshama2001 Yes, I check my BP at home. Good point though! @bold_rabbit Thank you! My doctor does seem appreciative!…

Thanks for all the replies! I do take medication now and keep it controlled, just wanted to see if others had success with drastic reductions of sodium. I really want to continue liking the food I eat! I have had several full workups over the years (and my thyroid is pretty much decorative, so on thryoid meds too). When my…

My meals are usually really simple and use pretty much what you have listed. I make "stew" most nights, which just means I throw it all in one pot and simmer until it's done. I use an Instantpot as it's super easy, but you can simmer in a soup pot too. Onion, garlic, ginger if it fits my mood, potato of some sort,…

I track my weight on Happy Scale. I can look back and see exactly when I was stressed by the rapid weight gain on the graph. It happens Every. Single. Time. Seriously, I can look back and see exactly when I was stressed about my divorce, job change and house buying adventures. It's now pretty predictable. I also now know…

@canadjineh No worries! I've been on a bit of a rant myself, I would think he would be happy to just know that he can feel better. And, yes, he wants squishy, soft white bread, but he does seem to be coming around a little. A step at a time I guess. I didn't think of making corn tortillas, I'll have to try that. I'm…

No Tesco's near me, but sounds about right for GF bread. I was hoping it had gotten better in the several years since I tried to find one I liked!

You can use slow cooker recipes in the oven. Use a large dutch oven or similar covered pot and set the oven around 200 for the low setting and 300 for the high setting. Slow cookers are nice in that you can set them and leave, plus you don't have to use your oven (especially nice on hot days), but for me, I almost never…

@KnitOrMiss I just read this thread now and saw your question about blood pressure medications. Just wanted to say that I had also had a bad reaction to ACE inhibitors, but I tolerate ARBs just fine (I had to have a documented intolerance/allergy to ACE inhibitors to have my insurance pay for them in the beginning). Talk…

@yellingkimber I had the exact reaction to anchovies (and I too was afraid sardines would make me cringe)...just tried brisling sardines yesterday and really liked them. Wanted to try kippers, but they were out of them. Came in here looking for more serving ideas. Really like the idea of using them on a salad with the…

First, you need more data. If it was elevated once in an office visit, that does not mean you have high blood pressure (HTN). I didn't lose weight, but was at a healthy weight when I suddenly developed HTN (at the ripe old age of 29). It may be coincidence that it is now elevated. I wouldn't blame the diet at all. I assume…

She might be mean, or she may be torn at wanting to walk with you, but also feel like she's getting a workout in. If it's the latter, have her buy a small backpack and load it with some weight. Then she can still walk slower and be with you, but still get a workout in and you don't have to over-do it to keep up. If she's…

I love salted butter in my coffee! Coffee, coconut oil, salted butter and eggs...that's my favorite mix!* *Which I guess is not really bulletproof coffee. Oh well. Tastes awesome and fills me up.

Kale is great in soups and stews. When I have extra kale, I chop, blanch and freeze in recipe-size portions (usually 2-4 cups prior to blanching). None goes to waste and I can easily toss it into whatever I'm making.

Thanks so much @Sunny_Bunny_ ! That looks awesome...maybe I do like meatloaf after all!
-
@Sunny_Bunny_ can you share the bacon cheeseburger meatloaf recipe? I have no luck with the search function on MFP...I've never made I meat loaf I particularly like, but that sounds really good!

Well I am on a steady gain...I've been keeping carbs under 100g, but continue to battle cravings for something. The mysterious something that I can never find, but will eat everything in the house trying to satisfy. I've been hesitant to try keto, but it's time.
-
@EbonyDahlia I'm ahead of you with a gain of 1.8 pounds! I can lose slower than you! (I will not make this a goal) My gain is most likely related to hormones though, just wish they weren't so wacky. Haven't had TOM for over 3 years, but 2 days ago? Yep, it's back. What on earth?

Weighed in yesterday, starting at 136.6. Goal for January: 130.

I forgot to weigh myself this morning, so will add weight/goals tomorrow. I am trying to avoid grains (I love them, they don't love me!) and keep carbs under 100g. Hope it's ok that I'm not keto!

My track record with friends and challenges is dismal, but since returning from vacation abroad, I'm ready to get back on track. I also have a goal of being more interactive on this board. On January 1st, of course...

I don't post much (read all the time, have to work on that posting thing!). I'm from Minnesota, out of Minneapolis. @carlsoda, I too hate football, despite our lovely new stadium. Good to know there are others... I have a dog from Wyoming and a dog from Missouri, does that count at all? Pretty sure the cat is local.

Vitamin C or vitamin K deficiency? I didn't research LCHF diet and vitamin deficiency, but do know that those two vitamin deficiencies can cause petechiae. Maybe try higher dose vitamin C and see if you develop petechiae or not. If not, then you can still save you're deductible*! *I would only say this as it seems to be…

Good advice from @RowdysLady and @Sunny_Bunny_ ...I would be careful with potassium and definitely try a more absorbable form of magnesium. I had terrible leg and foot cramps too, but have had elevated potassium levels in the past (so definitely cannot supplement!), started magnesium (glycinate in my case) and the cramps…

Thanks...I thought my brain was failing me!! It does often enough...

CO2 is acidotic, so we increase respirations to bring pH back to normal (which is what we'll do if you're on a ventilator, increase your respiratory rate). Holding your breath would increase CO2, increasing acidosis. Respiratory compensation in alkalosis would slow down the rate of breathing. Again, ketones are acidic, but…
-
I think this is where it gets so confusing @wabmester. You're posting levels of blood pH for DKA. Ketosis is not DKA. Yes, ketones are acidic and are buffered, but buffered means that your blood pH is stable, not acidotic. In ketosis your blood pH should be normal, right? Hence, the answer to the original question (ketosis…
-
Sorry, I'm not the best to answer your question (lurker with limited knowledge, but no one answered yet!), however I do know a little about metabolic acidosis, and ketosis is definitely NOT metabolic acidosis. You get to acidosis when your acid-base buffering system is overwhelmed, a medical emergency most often seen in…

Indian Butter Chicken...makes a huge pot of food, tastes better if it sits overnight and is great with or without rice. There's lots of different versions on line, or I can share mine with you if you are interested.

Some things you can put in your pocket, others you can grab and eat quick- cheese, jerky, hard boiled eggs, fat bombs, deli meat wrapped around cheese or cream cheese, peanut butter, olives...these are my staples for the times I don't get to actually sit down to eat some real food. It happens. Just check for uneaten snacks…

Thank you so much for this thread...I'm getting so many ideas! And to join in: B-Turkey and cream cheese roll ups, coffee L-Crack slaw (thank you @ChoiceNotChance! I'd never heard of it) D-Not sure...I'm so full from the crack slaw that I may not eat again! @cottagegirl71 I googled crack slaw and found a recipe for "uber…
