i'm not familiar with optifast, but based on the nutritional info you've given, those shakes seem fairly carb-expensive to me. if you're in a pinch, i'd go for something easy like hardboiled eggs... a couple of them either devilled or just mashed up with mayo and spices would take care of hunger nicely. and whenever i'm…

uh, no, i'm pretty sure that's determined by the placement of your shoulder joints, how long your collarbone is, the width of your scapulae, etc. while you can build the muscles in your neck, upper back, shoulders, and upper arms, nothing is going to change how far apart your shoulder joints are... or the length of your…

i love this... out of curiosity, how long does it take you to hit that 1,000 calorie mark where you either fast or splurge?
-
do you have any idea as to how many posts i've seen over the years that essentially ask "is it ok if i eat this?" every single time, it comes across as "mommy, may i?" or worse, people ask random internet strangers what they should eat at any given restaurant, and their tone is that of sheer panic at the thought of being…

are you asking permission? we are not your parents, we cannot control what does or doesn't go into your mouth. are you asking if one day of caloric splurge will cause you to stop losing weight? probably not, though it would depend on what you're splurging on and how far over. if your splurge consists of a…

i don't log anything that has less than 5 calories, so that covers my crystal lite drink packets (i use half a packet per 32oz of water) or diet soda. i also don't bother logging spices because overall, they aren't adding much of anything to the total recipe.

sorry... i've only seen "jo" used to refer to girls. and it's the internet :). thank you for the response, though. can i ask what you mean by a cynical business model and being toxic to their customers? at the moment, what they provide is pretty much exactly what i need and am looking for, but when/if i do get ready to…

then maybe her comment could have been phrased in a less derisive, more "let me share my experience with you" manner. my response was appropriate for the level of respect she showed me. despite the fact that i owe you no explanations, i am not a weight lifter and have never claimed to be. i do circuit/resistance training…

i'm sorry... you have something against planet fitness? or should i have reviewed my options for gym memberships with your sainted lord high-and-mightiness before signing up for something that was going to benefit ME?
-
i would err on the side of caution and list yourself as "lightly active". after a month or two, you can re-evaluate your levels using the oTDEE method to see where you actually fall.
-
anyone who would be swayed by that kind of condescending holery really does need permission before buying anything more complicated than a soda from a vending machine. one of the reasons i chose planet fitness is because they don't push you on ANYTHING. they wait for you to come to them with questions, whether it's about…

no. there is no requirement to eat carbs just because you're active. fat is a more sustainable, satisfying fuel source than carbs are.

why is surgery not an option? is it the cost? men can be insensitive like that. my husband knows full well why my torso is a disaster area (i've had a floop of lower belly skin/fat all my life, lost 70lbs and it had just started to finally shrink, then got massively pregnant with twins... now i have an inverted T-zone of…

part of the reason you're going over on your carbs is because you're choosing one of the highest carb fruits out there, along with the bread. ditch both of them in favor of strawberries, blueberries, and/or raspberries and a scrambled egg or two. as far as keeping calories low, i've got my limit set at 1580 but am…

already had one blood test which showed normal (2.6) TSH but low free T3 and T4. if the same persists at my next test, i'll insist that the free T numbers be evaluated because the more research i do, the more i'm seeing that those can be just as indicative of problems like hashimoto's as the TSH numbers will be. that will…

i originally set it up in MFP for a sedentary lifestyle, and that got me nowhere, so i cut that back by about 200 calories. i'm a bit less active than you... i have an office job but am up and down with stuff, then i go to the gym, then i'm home doing things around the house (cooking, laundry, cleaning, etc) for a couple…

the terms "broiler/fryer" and "stewing hen" only refer to the age of the bird when it's slaughtered. if i remember right, broiler/fryers are about 8 months old, while stewing hens are over a year... but check with his holy magnate, st. alton brown, on the specifics because i can't remember. it's all chicken, and should…

one of my freinds here has very graciously gone over my diet a few times and helped me adjust my macros, along with sending me additional information that helps me tweak and understand why i'm tweaking which parts, it's just not having any effect.

goal #1 was set at 40lbs from my starting weight... i have a total of about 60-70 that i'd LIKE to lose, and even that loss still puts me in the "overweight" BMI category. apparently you didn't see one of my previous responses, but if i cut another 250 calories a day, i'm down in the 1,100 range. if the standard,…

thank you for this. strangely enough, when i succeed at losing what i need to lose, they don't flare up. when i struggle, they threaten to take over completely. i discovered low-carbing about 15 years ago, and it seemed like the perfect solution: strict boundaries, complete freedom within those boundaries, and definitive…

for those of you who are doing JUDDD or ADF and are also on a regular workout schedule, do you adjust your workouts to align with your "up" and "down" days? i've been playing with the idea of ADF, and it's a dangerous concept for me (history of ED), but i'm hoping it might be the tweak i need to get my rate of loss up into…

i think you have to take cultural history into account. if you remember, immigrants coming to america prior to the industrial revolution had two options: stay in the cities, or strike out on their own working the land. those who became farmers would have needed a decently large meal after caring for the livestock to…

personally, i base it off the machine's report. i use the treadmill, and MFP only offers 2.0, 2.5, and 3.0 options for speed (and considers 2.5mph a "leisurely pace"... bite me and my short legs) so i will tweak the time in order to match it to what the treadmill says i burned. since the machine is measuring my weight,…

all you ever have to concern yourself with is that she finds someone who loves her for HER... someone who is more concerned about the size of her heart than the size of her jeans. if she wants your help, she will come to you. stay out of it. my mother has spent most of my life harping on me about my weight. when i was in…

those programs are the same ones that MFP, and every other RMR/BMR and TDEE calculator uses in order to determine the proper caloric intake for weight loss, maintenance, and weight gain. those calculations are well established as good, solid guidelines, and as i stated before, if my observed TDEE was within 10% of those…
