  • Often either a 'take away style' curry ready meal (325 - 475 calories) that's designed to be had with rice, but I have with a mixture of steamed spiralised butternut squash, carrots, onions and sometimes peppers... or a western ready meal which I'll mix into a good bit of salad. I have the veg mix and salad mix prepared -…
  • If it 'worked for your sister', try eating more fat and less carbs and see if it 'works for you'. If it does, keep doing at that ratio, or try tweaking it. As this is more psychological* rather than physiological for the most part, others can't offer a specific percentage that means much to you. Everyone has different ways…
  • No - I can easily eat 10k+ calories in a day. But I do often have days or weekends that I eat significantly over maintenance requirements, but do ok without compensating- overall of course it slows weight loss, but happy to mix up my metabolism a bit.
  • Cheers for the further thoughts everyone - had a really busy run up to the festival, so no time to reply. I was single this year (and alas, didn't kiss any random ladies!), only had a couple of questionable drinks (ie a friend made me a cocktail and tasted it herself first). I always have a shower every day - I take a…
  • First off - "clean eating" doesn't mean much and far from makes sure you gets the right nutrients - it's possible you've cut out some important nutrients your body needs. That rate of loss is quite significant - sounds like you've averaged not too far off 2lb a week. If you've had lots of higher calorie days, then does…

  • The point of such advice is to get the vitamins and minerals your body requires - something that's often lost as the message is passed along. To the point you'll get some people that eat the same 5 pieces of fruit/veg and think they're doing great. Unfortunately it's a complicated subject and it's quite hard to get a…
  • Thanks; and yes, I suppose it's more a question of "what can I do to ensure my immune system is working as well as it can reasonably be". Last couple of years I've avoided taking offered drinks - when they've been around 10 random people it's asking for trouble. Though was with the GF who did have some - single now, so…
  • Yes, but mostly because I just ate too many calories of said food.
  • Going for 8:16 - so only eating for 8 hours in a day and not for the remaining 16 is a method that works well for me to manage my calories. While doing weights I would also alternate 1000 calories up on weights down vs low calorie 'rest' days. I'm not sure there's massive physiological benefits - but the psychological ones…
  • I like my Tefal non-stick pan for 'fried' eggs - no oil needed. And some how a few years ago I found that 'sunny side down' DIDN'T mean the yoke had been burst! I always presumed it did - now often sunny side down so I can get egg in my gob quicker :).
  • If you eat egg - egg whites are very high in protein. Some low fat cheeses aren't too bad. Without going to protein powders, not too up on other stuff as generally I just eat meat :).
  • As for as losing weight goes; 'CICO' all the way for me. Of course the trick is learning which bits of 'calories in' work for you and which bits of 'calories out' do. That's down to individual psyche, so I wouldn't be limited by a specific plan. Normally I would have a reasonable structure of exercise - for instance going…
  • I'm in the UK and have home gym setup. Unless you've got silly amounts of money, I'd go secondhand for most. Ebay, gumtree, facebook etc. A 20kg Olympic weight is generally a good bit cheaper secondhand, but still weighs 20kg :). I made my own cage - already had the wood lying around and some metal brackets I'd used to…
  • "I've logged the food, so it's part of a healthy weight management plan." If someone then came out with that it was still unhealthy, I would point them to well researched articles such as this one - https://rippedbody.com/nutritional-hierarchy-importance-calories/ - and suggest they learn about it. Of course, if the…
  • Ah; but the key to what? :) For weight control, CICO is key... BUT the best way to achieve the correct CICO balance will depend per person. For me, getting decent exercise definitely helps in keeping the CICO where I want it.
  • Also the same for cheese I believe. Turns out things we enjoy light up the same 'pleasure centres', be it food, puppies or drugs. That doesn't mean we should avoid things just because we enjoy them! Saying that; I mostly do avoid cheese for that very reason - I don't have the will power to control myself!
  • As above - I use the libra app. Weighing every day it takes out inconsistencies in both your weight and the scales with the smoothing, giving a better idea of what's going on so you can more quickly adjust - as above, once a week you could easily miss that there's issues with your CICO with inconsistencies.
  • Your body, as above, has no idea where the sugar comes from and won't process it differently. Fruits typically have a mix of fructose and sucrose.. a bit like that devil-processed 'HFCS'! Avoiding foods with additional added (sic) sugars can be a way to find meals that are more filling per quantity with better Gi levels.…
  • Got to see a doctor again today. This was quite good - she told me the specific tendon which was likely the issue - so it's likely Supraspinatus tendinitis that I've got. I've been taking 500mg Naproxen once a day - she's upped that to twice day (which I did have at one point, but caused some tummy issues and didn't seem…
  • I made a massive bowl of salad - enough for 4 large heaped dinner plate's worth at least and actually weighed every single thing. Up until the sweetcorn, it was around 200 calories. Sweetcorn bumped it up to near 300. A fairly small portion of lean meat shouldn't add too much. However, if friend in oil; if I'm being strict…
  • Just to lose weight, as above - a calorie deficit. So, if you want an exercise to help you achieve that while still being able to eat a reasonable amount (I'll often look at it that the exercise lets me eat more with the added bonus of better fitness), whatever you enjoy doing (or dislike the least) that you can do for a…
  • If you're continuing to get stronger, it suggests your muscles are 'improving', even if not quite how you were hoping. At some point, either you're super-girl, or you'll have to have your muscles increase in size to increase in strength :). However, yes; it seems you're likely at a calories deficit and the body doesn't do…
  • Pretty much any food can be part of a healthy lifestyle. Pretty much any food can also be unhealthy for someone's lifestyle goals and aims, especially if 'used wrong'. (For instance the person looking to lose weight that doesn't have a great TDEE whi has high calorie food daily rather than as an occasional treat.)
  • You're combining the physiological and psychological aspects and claiming an explanation of the physiological side doesn't work for both. Yes; you're right. It doesn't. CICO is absolutely THE be all and end all of the physiological side. If it wasn't, the universe we lived in would be a very different place. CICO has…
  • Appreciate that personal trainers are in the business of getting people to pay for personal training. This has to be their main point of their business in reality. So you'll often find those offering 'pop' advice which will appeal, even if other simpler advice might do fine even though people may not like it - and exercise…
  • Cheers JB035 - unfortunately since posting the first post I've been off all weights for some time and tried several sets of other exercises - one made it a good bit worse, others not much difference. I'm in the UK. Cheers for the info Nicola. Got a bit lost where I am in the thread, but while I was away from my normal GP I…
  • Never really seen the point for strength gain. Pistol squats maybe, but I'd prefer a weighted jacket, or to just make up some handles for my bar so I can hold my hands in a position that doesn't cause any problems. Was getting the ex to sit on my shoulders for me to do squat, then holding heavier things while I was doing…
