That's great advice - thanks.

It's a buffet of opinions - some stuff is good for you, some not so much. Too much of anything is always bad. Take from the forums what you need, and avoid what you don't like.

Daily, and I record new lows. It can get frustrating when I've gained a pound in spite of holding to caloric intake, however these fluctuations are normal given body chemistry, hours slept, time of your last meal, water intake, etc. However, in these cases I find it helpful to look back 30 days and confirm the progress…

I refused to buy anymore clothes this past Christmas - I was just sick and tired of spending money to look worse than I did 3 months ago. I cleaned my closet out, came across some really nice stuff that didn't fit any more, and oddly enough it motivated me get back on track.

Sounds all familiar - kudos to you though for not gaining it all back - I wish I had pulled out of my nosedive halfway back to where I am now. After losing 134 lbs in 9 months I gained 139 in 4 years. The fact that you're addressing it now can only benefit, not hurt you. Here are some thoughts, given my experience. 1.…

Good luck. I just lost 50 lbs in 87 days - it can be done. I still have a long way to go, but you can transform yourself in a relatively short period of time - while not easy, it is worth it.

Great advice.

Calorie intake is only half of the equation - what you burn also determines your weight loss. If you looking to lose 2 lbs per week, (just <1Kg) you need to create a 1000 calorie deficit per day, given its about 3500 calories per lb. If you're too active, and restrict to 1200 calories per day, your body will think its…

Well aware, thanks for the advice though. I've lost 134 lbs previously here on MFP in 2011. I don't struggle losing weight - have struggled my whole life keeping it off - will seek help when I get there this time. Thanks!

With young kids, we eat earlier in the evening, around 5 pm. The nature of my employment keeps my online late most evenings (midnight) - I won't eat anything after dinner, as that has historically been my achilles heel that gets me going off track - So, that's 7 hours without eating, and that gets tough. Overall calories…

Thanks - no rush this time.

It's fine. You need to burn about 3500 calories to lose a pound, so if you target 2lbs per week, thats 7000 net calories lost per week, or 1000 per day. I'm lightly active, and the extra bit isn't creating any negative issues.

I'm wearing a FitBit which tracks my activity level during the day - based on my current weight my baseline calorie burn (for being sedentary) is about 3000 calories per day. I'm more likely "lightly active", as I average about 50,000-60,000 steps per week, so the extra 500 calories is coming from walking, and a bit of…

Thanks for both of your kind words.

Depends on which Fitbit you are using - I have the Force which does not track Heart Rate (I believe some of the newer Fitbits may have that option). Fitbit generally is used for tracking steps - your heart rate is a better determinant of your calorie burn. (2000 steps running will burn more calories than 2000 steps walking…

Count me in. I'm 20 lbs into my 190 lb weight loss target. I had managed to lose 134 lbs previously in 2010 thanks to MFP, but failed to keep it off. I had said "never again" - but here I am. Wishing everyone the best - it CAN be done.

Congrats to you....take it as a compliment, and don't do a disservice to yourself and others by downplaying your accomplishment - it was hard work both physically and mentally to accomplish what you did.

"OMG, I just hit 380 lbs"

Lots of good support here - there is a transition period where you will find it hard to stay within your calories. If you start to make good eating choices you'll find it easier to feel full with less calories - and eventually you will gain control of your hunger. I've been there, and worse(I've lost almost 129 lbs in less…

I record it as cardio for calorie burns -

Congratulations - great work in such a short time...

Fantastic answers everyone - thanks for taking the time!

Have you thought about playing some team sports - something with a high work rate and calorie burn like soccer or basketball?
-
No, you can't avoid discouragement - its normal. How we react to it determines our success. If your life is at a standstill today - stop and enjoy it. Take a minute to refect and think, and don't feel guilty about it. Commit to yourself that tomorrow can be a better day, and pick up where you left off. You've successfully…

Thanks for the post - however I'm not in complete agreement on a few items. While a highly restrictive diet has merit, it is difficult to maintain for many, and impractical in many ways. You can lose weight eating everything, contrary to your title, provided its done in moderation, and always with an eye on nutritional…

If you're hungry, eat. Then go for a jog, or some other form of exercise to compensate. It's hard initially, but you don't have to suffer, provided you're willing and able to put the work in to offset the calories.

Great job - I know the feeling.
-
Great job - congratulations on your progress. Be very proud of your accomplishments.

I'll eat them back only if I'm very hungry- usually will eat about 25% of them on average, just seems to work for me that way....see what works for you.
