What a great problem to have. The solution- take your daughter and have her help you buy some clothes. You might start by cleaning out your closet of all the clothes you know that definitely too large. Happy shopping!

Oh no! My cookbook caught me looking at your meal pictures. Boy, do I have some explaining to do.

Yep. More time. The best way to look at long term goals is to realize that time will pass regardless of whether you're working toward a goal or not. A year will go by whether or not you work on your health. Just keep in mind where you want to be at the end of that time and put in the work today that will get you there.…

If you could provide a bit more information? Are you just one week into the program? Does this mean you've only just now started working out this past week? If that's the case, I think you're right-- you should chill out a bit. I see you joined back in July though, so are you saying you don't feel any better now than…

It's all an aproximation anyway based on an estimate of how many calories you use in a day. So I would go with the amount set by whatever tool you think you'll use the most and adjust from there. If you're not happy one way or the other, you can always change, but it might be easier to adjust the settings on your tool (ie-…

I'm doing C25K now and really like it for running. I also bicycle quite a bit and take fairly long bicycle tours every summer. I don't think you really need to do anything as programed as c25k to get yourself in shape for cycle touring. For one thing, cycling doesn't put as much jarring stress on the body as running does.…

KInd of a hassle, but I take my driver's license out of my wallet and take it along. Then when I'm done, I put it back in the wallet.

Instead of finding recipes here, I use the American Heart Association cookbook, or sometimes I just look to see what we have on hand, type that into a google search with the word "recipe" and I usually get several great options, some, even, with nutrition info. The AHA cookbook is good, though, and has all the nutrition…

Are you talking about a main meal or snacks? And are you carefully logging your snacks if that's what we're talking about? In Spain, most people eat late in the evening, yet most Spaniards seem to be doing a good job avoiding obesity. I think it all depends on context and purpose. For myself, it's best to avoid eating…

I just recently started watching my sodium levels. My cardiologist wants to to stay below 1500 mg. It's incredible how much sodium is in prepared foods. If I prepare my own meals from scratch, it's pretty easy. Lots of fruit and fresh veggies help. I've found some low sodium bread at our health food store so that will help…

You're making great progress! Keep up the fantastic work.

I sometimes eat when I'm not occupied with anything else so what works sometimes for me (when I get motivated) is just to get myself busy with something. For me, it can be a project, playing my guitar, reading a book, or doing something with my family. If my hands are busy, my minds not on food so much.

I'm sorry for the bad treatment and lack of support you're getting from those closest to you. The only advice I can think of is to remember, constantly, that you are doing this for yourself-- not for them. The way I look at any long term goal, no matter the type, is that the future always comes, so where do I want to be…

I'd tend to trust my heart rate monitor over the MFP formula. Both use algorithms that rely on input of your weight, the exertion level of the exercise, and duration. What makes the heart rate monitor more reliable is that the exertion component is based on your actual heart rate while the MFP formula uses generalized and…

You might also check with your doctor into the possibility of exercise induced asthma. This can occur without any previous asthma symptoms. If that's the case, it can be managed.

People in parking lots who circle forever in their cars so that they can get a spot closer to the entrance. If they'd settle for a spot a little farther out, they'd be parked, in and out of the store, and gone. But no, they start to follow people walking back to their cars waiting to pounce on the soon-to-be-open parking…

This is a journey for the long haul. And in every journey, it's ok to take a rest as long as you get back on the road. The main thing is to make good habits more the rule, and the times we go back into bad habits a rarity.

It has worked for me. I've been doing this for about a year, combining the food logging with exercise, and have gone from 198 lbs down to 169 which is pretty darn close to my target weight; And recent studies that have been in the news point to the methods used in MFP, namely keeping a daily log of what you eat and…

I'm a fairly bright guy so what's surprising to me is that people's behavior, and I guess their motiviations, do surprise me. So, you could say that I'm surprised by my own cluelessness. : )

Elliptical trainer while I watch a tv show on my computer. Or a nice long bike ride.

Likewise, back at you.

Thanks Teramae. I have been amazed, even shocked, at what losing just a few pounds and a couple of months of regular exercise have accomplished for me in terms of overall health. I didn't think the change would be all that drastic. I still have a few pounds to go to get to my target weight, but health is the overall issue.
