I don't drink that much water. If I do, I"m in the bathroom constantly. I drink probably 4-6 ounce glasses of water (or fluid such as tea and coffee) daily. Some studies show that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is not necessary for good health. See: http://www.snopes.com/medical/myths/8glasses.asp

Absolutely lovely! Great work!

A serving of Breakstone cottage cheese has 290 grams of sodium. That's not a terrible amount, but it's not great, either. The American Dietary Association recommends the average adult consume less than 2,300 grams of sodium a day. So if you love cottage cheese (as I do), you could continue to eat it and watch your other…

1,200 calories does seem low. I'm on 1,400, but it's based on my current weight. If you exercise MFP gives you extra calories, so try to do that every day. As for your breakfast, high-carb foods (especially those with sugar) are high in calories. If you read the label on the foods you buy, try to get those with lower fat…

I've tried to start lifting weights several times before, and didn't follow through,. Here are my reasons: The machines intimidate me, and I know I should hire a trainer to instruct me so I don't injure myself, but a trainer costs over $100 an hour!!! My God, that leaves just about everyone I know out of that financial…

I'd be honored to be your friend! I'm way older than you, so don't go thinking this is a site for only young folks! And 45 is young. I think 5 stone is about 14 pounds. You can do it! Write me anytime!

This is a difficult one, Jurce. Since we're supposed to be eating healthier (not just be on some crash diet), it would seem logical to have our families eat healthier too. After all, we want them to be healthy as well, right? But it doesn't always work that way. Families (especially husbands) are going to pretty much eat…

Great! And I like that you did it slowly. I'm trying that approach for the first time with MFP and it seems to be working!
-
I'm already on the program, Jurce, but welcome! Want to be my friend? I hope you'll like MFP as much as I do!

My favorite recipe is so easy it's ridiculous. I put 2 chicken breasts, bone in, skin removed if you want, in the crock pot. I pour a half a bottle of prepared marinade (watch the sugar and fat, I use a generic barbecue sauce) and set on low for up to 8 hours. (It can be eaten in 4 hours if need be.) Add any seasonings you…

Good one! I used to hear this one at Weight Watchers all the time! Now, when I hear that, I want to scream. It is so NOT TRUE!

You are an inspiration to me! I could relate so much to what you said, and to see how far you come is just amazing! Keep up the good work!

You said you're swimming, that's what I do when my plantar fascitis acts up. Sometimes water aerobics even bothers it, so that's when I get in the deep end with weights and work out with no impact. Also, if you have insurance, and you haven't already done so, see a podiatrist. I got some steroid shots for mine once and it…

I've never done strength training, so none of this makes sense to me. Can you recommend something in writing (with illustrations) explaining all these moves? Thanks!

I tried to read the first book after it was highly recommended by several friends. I don't read a lot of popular fiction. I found the writing style juvenile, the plot predictable, and the sex ho-hum. I just don't get it. I think we've become very "dumbed down" in America.

I plan most meals when I make my grocery list. I try to go online and see what's on sale, like chicken breasts, hamburger, etc. My son has autism and won't eat most of what I cook, so I have to cook separately for him, but I've been doing it so long I'm used to it. Some meals for me are only a sandwich with smoked turkey.…

I love the crock pot too! I've discovered that beans taste SO good in a crock pot! I also do vegetable soup in the crock pot. Yum!

Sorry, my knives are all from the thrift store or WalMart! One of these days I'm going to be able to afford a good set!

Candy, probably all of us have "been there, done that!" I, too, lost weight and regained it. I was 17 pounds lighter just a year ago. If you haven't tried MFP before, give it a try! It helps you tally up your calories and builds exercise into the program. I wish you well and I am adding you as a friend! Please write…

You look younger at 44 than you did at 28!

I agree with you, and I think you do lose more weight if you don't count the exercise. However, exercise can make you hungry. It's a Catch-22. But considering before this I was getting very little exercise and eating way more calories, at least I know I'm headed in the right direction, no matter whether I use all of my…

In general, I have found Dr. Oz to be wrong about some pretty important things. I have a medical background and I know how to read between the lines. He is pandering to the Fox crowd's prurient interest in fads and gimmicks. I know no legitimate physician who would make the claims he does.

Canada, Sweden, England, Scotland, Sweden, France, Germany. I really loved the highlands of Scotland (eerie and mystical) and the openness and beauty of Sweden.

Don't these ice creams have like 2,000 calories a serving? How do they fit into the meal plan? I'd love to eat Ben and Jerry's, but I know I'd be tempted to eat the whole container!

Loved this post, Amy. It made a lot of sense. But sometimes I don't lose or maintain weight (or even gain) when I'm on a diet and doing what I"m supposed to!!! What's up with that? When I was married, my husband just cut back a little and he lost weight regularly and consistently no matter what. Me? I have to stick to my…

Good luck to you! I'll send a friend request. Thanks.

Unbelievable! What an incredible story. You are an example to us all.

I make a low-fat dressing that makes just about any raw veggies taste great! I use an empty clean mayonnaise jar. I put 2 tablespoons of light mayo (I like Hellman's) in the jar, then distilled vinegar (you can use any kind of vinegar) just until it makes the mayo a dressing-like consistency. (Maybe 1 tablespoon? I don't…

There are different schools of thought on this, but the bottom line is if you've seen one dieter, you've seen one dieter. We're not all alike. You have obviously done a fabulous job with losing weight and for that you should be proud! But some of us do fit snacks into our meal plans, albeit healthy ones. I agree the…

Yes, I see a huge difference! You are a shrunken version of your previous self! Wow!
