  • Started planning for 2019 in September, so definitely not too soon. Losing weight is a secondary, maybe even tertiary goal for me. Ideal is probably about 10kg less than today.
  • Two lb per week is ambitious! Best wishes and good luck from Pennsylvania!
  • Question: How do you warmup if you do cardio after weight lifting?
  • Impressive. I've actually been thinking a lot about this, so your insight would be helpful. I've been doing the 2-4 times/week for a few months (after a long break of letting myself go.) One of the things I've learned in the past 3 years is that for something to become a habit, it must be done daily, especially in the…
  • Happy Sunday! 32 Days to Thanksgiving. Anyone still here? Hope you are all doing well. Was 77.5 kg in April and 77.1 kg in August. That’s less than a pound in 3 months. Now, with more than a week to go in October, hit 71 kg (156.5 lb) today. That’s 6.1kg (13.4 lbs) dropped since adoption of MFP daily logging.
  • So, no winner here... pass again... but this time, and could happen again tomorrow, was for a cause... my niece is getting married tomorrow. I drove 9 hours to TN, and then had beer and fish tacos with a whole bunch of family and her new family too. So, failed the challenge, but still feeling OK with that decision. It was…
  • Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 26.45 KM (16 mi) bicycle ride. Shorter than yesterday, but pushed harder on the upgrade at the start. 1:37:08 16.3 KM/h avg. Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes, easily. Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes. Favorite winter activity? I no longer…
  • Bonking during cardio (long bicycle rides, runs, or rows) is one possible indicator of eating too little, but it could also be just meal timing. I find if I skip breakfast before a morning ride or row, or lunch before an afternoon ride or row, that will definitely make for worse performance. If I'm also not getting enough…
  • Have you selected a program to follow? If not that should be your first step. BLS (Bigger Leaner Stronger book) has some very good info on this subject.
  • Heck no! I have the inverse problem. So long as calories in stay below calories out, I'm losing weight. But because I have coronary artery disease, it's better to keep fat to a minimum. I'd like to keep fat to no more than 10% of calories. For me so far, that's been very hard to do.
  • Not a Dr., but I am a heart attack survivor. Eleven years now since 100% occlusion of left main nearly took me out. Was exercising regularly prior and passed a stress test flying colors a few days prior to flatlining. Major and irreversible heart muscle damage was the outcome. Could have easily been death. I concur with…
  • 2018-10-10 Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 33.08KM (20 mi) bicycle ride. (1:52:28 - tempo training = moderate pace =~ 17km/h avg.) Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes. Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.
  • 2018-10-09 Pass Cals yes, track yes, exercise no. This is harder than I thought! Only 10 days in and I’ve used all my passes.
  • Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes, 5K on erg. Did I stay within my calorie budget for the day? Yes. Did I keep track of everything I ate and drank? Yes.

  • 2018-10-06 Did I exercise for at least 20 minutes? Yes. Today was the Head of the Ohio rowing regatta. I raced as 7 seat in an eight. 5K race plus 5+K setup and return to boathouse. Carry boat to launch and back was longer than usual due to event. Also island was off limits to parking, so I drove to my office and rode my…
  • 2018-10-05 I guess I should call this Pass Day #2. We had a head race (rowing Regatta) Saturday morning, and so I had planned well in advance that I would not be doing any exercise besides normal walking around on Friday. Feel no guilt whatsoever for sticking to my plan, though in this case it conflicted with the stated…
  • 2018-10-04 Exercise- yes- 5K on erg at lunch Calories- yes- well under Track everything- yes
  • 2018-10-03 Pass day (Planned an hour of Yoga after work, but my job took 15 hours and counting.)

  • Date: 2018-10-01, Day 1 = on-track. Exercise: Yes. Rowed 5K on erg (indoor rowing machine) at lunch time approx. 25 minutes, and 11.5K on river after work (harder, race training.) About 1:35:00 including time to carry boat and oars out and back from boathouse. Calories: Yes. Calories vary by day for me. Base is 1500 kcal.…
  • Hi and thanks. Ready for a new challenge. August was great (as far as fat loss goes) and September was a lot less so. It started with vacation and I never seemed to get back in the groove despite logging every day the entire month. Primary physical activities are rowing and bicycling, but I'm determined to add weight…
  • I've tried a few and disliked the vegan stuff I tried first. For flavor, I've settled on GNC Amp pure isolate (whey/25 grams protein per scoop) in Vanilla Custard and Chocolate Frosting flavors. The vanilla I use at home in smoothies with almond milk, banana, and greens, the chocolate I can tolerate with just water, so I…
  • I've just started logging again after a long break. On a 15 day streak and in a challenge to log every day until Thanksgiving (or at least 90% of 90 days.) Though, my diet is very boring right now, so I may not the best person for recipe ideas :-) On the plus side, I've dropped 2 and 1/2 Kg since the start of August.…
  • Concur with Brian 100%. (Nice link too BTW.) In a small town, if it has a really good bike shop, they may have the time to fit you as part of the bike sale, but they may or may not have the best skills. In general, don't assume you'll get anything of value for nothing. Ask locals in your area who they trust and be willing…
  • Open to either or both. Will be doing mostly weekends either case.
  • Hi. Sounds like fun. Can I join in? I've got a jump on you. I'd already set a 90 day goal beginning 15 August, and I started a "get in the groove" phase a week before that. This week I signed up for the premium and logged every bite for 7 days, plus rowed 25000 meters on a erg (indoor Concept2 rowing machine, 5 days X 5000…
  • ckish, GREAT suggestions! Building good habits it truly the foundation of success when it comes to diet and exercise!
  • Greg, I agree with the others on pretty much everything. I'm also a newbie to this particular diet looking for some advice on the shopping front. I plan to start tomorrow, Monday, 17 February. The past week has been a "transition week," where I reduced starch and eliminated junk and tried to up my raw veggie quantities.…
