  • Well said! I am sure there are a lot of very <ahem> *experienced* folks here!
  • I lost 50 pounds on what I call the Kobayashhi Maru plan. I explain it here - http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Joanitude/view/the-kobayashi-maru-diet-plan-545607 Just another option for you to consider.
  • I agree with the others have said here are some additional suggestions: General rule of thumb is rent + utilities should be 35%-45% of your income. Once you get over 50% you are getting into a risky place. Have set amount of "pocket money" or "allowance" in the budget - that is your 'extra money' Do a spending journal -…
  • Popcorn, Indiana "Fit" popcorn - in several flavors. They have a number of flavors. Some sort of sweetened cereal for when I get a sweet attack - generally chocolate or cinnamon.
  • Good choice. You can do this - just take things one step at a time.
  • This is my new favorite salt craving - http://www.amazon.com/Popcorn-Indiana-Extra-Virgin-Olive/dp/B00CTJ1OAK/ I am not saying it is healthy to eat a whole bag - just that it is better this stuff than the other options.
  • Thanks for all the replies. Now that the craziness of the holidays is over, I can get back to this. This is actually just the sauce part of a dish featuring scallops & spinach that I make for special occasions. I am trying to modify the recipe to get it to a reasonable level of calories per portion. I agree - flavorful…
  • For pretty much any fish - my favorite is also the simplest: lemon juice, salt & pepper, either oven baked (dryer) or microwaved (moister) depending on the mood. Shrimp can generally go into any recipe that would call for chicken meat: stir fry, pasta, etc. Just have to be careful and not over cook it.
  • I'm using this calculator - http://calorieline.com/tools/tdee to step down my calories. I am doing this very slowly in stages. I set it to a temporary goal of 30 pounds under where I am, and adjust every 10 pounds or so. I have dropped painlessly from over 2500 to 1850. I know many people prefer to see faster results, I'm…
  • I'm losing 5#. That's it - Just 5#. Of course this is the 7th 5# I have lost so far.
  • It is a shame that too many people just reacted to the provocative title, instead of thinking through the post. People (in general) do not do things that don't give them some type of reward. Part of the challenge is figuring out what the payoff is for me being fat. Once I get a handle on that, then I can address the real…
  • I have been a member of this group my whole life. I get it! I lost count of all the different crazy (or healthy) diets I have tried. Like you pointed out, I do not do well with being on any sort of strict food plan. I finally found something that is working for me - and as it happens, I made a blog post about it just this…
  • My diary is open to friends. All of my friends know I am all about The Plan, which is different from the path most people are following here. They sometimes comment when they see something unusual for me, or something sounded good. I find the accountability of the auto-post that I was under for the day helpful. I always…
  • My highest was 325 - currently at 277. (I'm 5'8") My goal...I guess I'm looking at it differently.... I plan to continue until I can comfortably/consistently wear a 14, whatever weight that ends up being.
  • Nope - I've been working on it for the past 40 years You *can* do it, you just haven't found the right way yet. One of my favorite quotes: I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.- Thomas Edison. Most importantly, you have to find your path...the one that works for you. I have finally found one that…
  • You left this really wide open - no mention of cuisine, protein, meal, etc. Here is one of my favorite's all summer: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/Joanitude/view/recipe-gazpacho-unofficial-tast-of-summer-538383 It is easy to change around to suit your tastes.
  • I have a fitbit one - and love it. The flex would be even easier, just put it on and don't take it off except to charge it
  • Welcome to MFP. There are probably lots of folks here that have a story similar to yours. I have a few recommendations for anyone new to the site - 1) Fill out a complete profile. This let's other people find areas of common ground...maybe location, occupation, or maybe physical similarities. If you walked up to the door…
  • If you compare it apples-to-apples it would be close to the same. If you are comparing 80/20 beef to 99/1 turkey, there is a huge difference if both are 95/5 then they are about the same. At that point it is pretty much personal preference - and the cost factor. Personally, I use both, depending on what I am making.
  • That's how I felt at my highest...it just sort of sneaks up on you. That was also the day I decided that no matter what, I was going to get a scale and weigh routinely. Like the number or not, at least I know what it is now.
  • I'm Joan - like my buddy Alana I have been on MFP for awhile now. Also like Alana I am older, and not as diligent as I could be. However, the weight I have lost I have kept off even with: road trip, vacation, death in the family, personal crisis. I haven't been as active on here as I could, but now that the last crisis has…
  • I have crossed over into two-derland, and have been here long enough to feel I am able to maintain it. Next stop - twofitty-viille.
  • If I believe my scale, I can gain/lose up to 10 pounds in as little as 2 minutes. Of course it is really just because my house has old floors and if I move the scale I can get a very different reading. Keeping everything constant - I can gain or lose 3-5 pounds. That's why I weigh daily but log it weekly.
  • These sorts of things are primarily movement trackers, rather than actual calories burnt trackers. For many activities, that would be the same thing: walking, running, etc. They don't do much for weight lifting since the calories burnt is not just about the amount of movement.
  • It is interesting to see how different our bodies all are. I am between 24/26 in jeans and 2/3x in shirts at 5'7" and 280
  • I have had a lifelong battle with my weight. In the past I have tried every diet, some with more success with others, but I found that over time I continued to gain. Finally I think I have the answer (at least for me). It is working for me - down 30# - but even better: I just recently took a month 'off', the death of my…
  • I eat out a lot - I just plan ahead. I know there are any number of options at places like Olive Garden, Applebees, etc. I made a list of possibilities at the normal places we go. Instead of choosing from the whole menu, I am choosing off the very select list I prepared in advance. Example: I know at Olive Garden I can…
  • I have not been active too much the past couple of months - but I am back now. Check my profile and if you think I could be supportive to you, send me a friend request.
  • I find that God/the universe/whatever-you-believe-in puts things in my life if I will only look around and notice them. For example: in my email this morning - How to Stick to a Habit When Life Falls Apart http://zenhabits.net/bumps/ It starts with a quote that right now I need to hear: ‘If you’re going through hell, keep…
