How did you like Vegas? That terrain was brutal!

The Reebok Outdoor Wilds are great if you are not a minimalist runner. I also recommend Brooks Cascadias if you're looking for a neutral shoe. I don't recommend Inov-8s if you are not used to a minimalist shoe. They do have shoe that have a higher heel drop but they are still much different if you're used to running in…

Thanks for compiling this. As someone who has been struggling with depression for a long time, these are all things I know but it's so nice to have it in one place. I'm bookmarking the page so I can read it again the next time I'm struggling.

The SoCal Sprint was my third Spartan race. I've also complete the Malibu Sprint and the Vegas Super. SoCal was a lot of fun. The weather was beautiful. There were no obstacles I hasn't seen before -- 6 and 8 foot walls, inverted wall, traverse wall, Herculean hoist, rope climb, spear throw, sand carry, tractor pull, tire…

I'm starting my Trifecta with the Temecula Sprint this weekend! Best of luck to everyone attempting their trifecta this year!

I'm doing a 24 hour ruck this weekend that's hosted by my boot camp. It's similar to the GRC. I'm pretty nervous about it but I know a lot of people who have completed GRC and other rucks and they all say it's an awesome experience.

Congrats on signing up for your first Spartan!! My first was also a Super. My recommendation is to carry a hydration pack and bring some sort of energy source. I don't know what fitness level you are but gels, chews, or even a Power Bar can go a long way when you're 5 miles in and still have 3 to go. Other than that, avoid…

Here's mine! A 13 lb loss from October to the beginning of April. I tore my meniscus in November, had surgery in January, and did the Super Spartan Las Vegas in April, just under three months after surgery. I just hit 20 lbs down today but this is the only comparison pic I have.

I really recommend using a TDEE calculator and sticking with it. I really struggled with net calorie method because I would be starving on my off days from exercise and that would lead to making really unhealthy food choices. I had a lot of success once I switched to this method and really tried to focus on how much…

They look great! I'll have to give them a try. Thanks for sharing!

I sure do see a difference! The maximum rate of healthy weight loss is 1 - 2 pounds per week so it looks like you're right on target! Keep up the awesome work.
-
Congrats, you look amazing!

Thanks, ladies! I think I may have gained a bit of muscle after surgery while doing PT. I increased my protein/decreased my carbs at that time, so that may explain looking like more than 13 pounds. I hadn't taken measurements in October (when the before picture was taken), but I know that between the end of November (post…

Have you tried clipping her claws? I do this with my cat. I just make sure to do it pretty routinely, every 3 - 4 weeks. There are also claw caps. http://www.softpaws.com/ I have friends who use and highly recommend them. The caps only last a couple weeks so you have to keep your eye on when they need to be replaced but…

Just completed my first of the year! I made it through despite still recovering from my meniscectomy and a sprained ankle. Here's the tentative schedule for the year: March 22 - Devil Dash, Sin City (completed) April 6 - Super Spartan, Las Vegas April 27 - Mad Mud Run, Las Vegas July 19 - Walking Dead Escape, San Diego…

^ Similarly, my eighth grade science teacher's last name was Zona. He always said if he had a daughter, he would name her Ari. My boyfriend went to school with two siblings named Orangejello and Lemonjello. The pronunciations of both names are interesting and hard to explain via text. My ex was almost named Cooper,…

Sounds very yummy. Will have to try it.

What they forgot to tell you about using that calculator is that the number it gives you is to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose, subtract 15 - 20% from the total. Subtracting about 15% since you said you want to lose about 1 lb/week puts you at about 1700 calories per day. If you're going to do this…

Sounds awesome! I will have to give it a go.

You are definitely not going to look a fool. People run in colder climates than 30-40. Just do your research on how to layer properly for running in cold weather so you don't get too hot during your run.

I'm 5'6" and my goal weight is 145. The lowest I've ever been was 155 and I think I looked pretty good at that weight. I figure when I get to 150, I'll evaluate how I feel and look and go from there. I don't want to be too skinny.
-
Just remember, if you're going to use these calculators (and not the way the MFP defaults), then do not eat back your exercise calories. All 3 calculators that have been posted take into account your normal weekly workouts.
-
I calculated a TDEE here http://www.fitnessfrog.com/calculators/tdee-calculator.html based on your weight, an average 5'6" height (since I don't know how tall you actuallt are) and with moderate exercise. The number I got was 2617. That would be the number of calories to eat in order to maintain. Since you are looking to…

You can sign up for the Workouts of the Day on the Spartan website. If you don't know how to do an exercise, type the name of it into YouTube and I guarantee there will be an instructional video on how to do anything. At the very least, try to get in some trail running and practice your burpees. There's a 30 burpee penalty…

Tempting is right. December hits the ground running in my family.. an anniversary and 2 birthdays in the first week alone, not to mention Christmas and New Year's Eve at the end. It's like having giant temptation bookends on both ends of the month.
