  • Don't try too hard. You won't improve if you are wound up tight. Footwork, footwork, footwork, footwork, footwork.

  • I have Graves and received the RAI treatment. Plyometrics (Beachbody Insanity) works really well for me BUT it is true that sometimes trying too hard can backfire. I exercise a lot because I like to do so. I have been holding steady at the same weight for a few years now. I am not where I want to be but I am in pretty good…
  • Judo is throwing and tripping with some pins. BJJ involves pain response (chokes, joint locks, and slicers). If you pick up one of these disciplines you will probably end up studying the other as well.
  • I have been using it for a month or so. My favorite workout are the HIIT ones. I prefer doing my real training but it is a nice change from the hardcore stuff I was doing.
  • Not food but sleep. I decided to wake up and pray the LOTH at 5am. The idea is to combat the sloth in me and do that "praying without ceasing" thing.
  • Injury prevention - I just remembered. CLIP YOUR NAILS.
  • My answer is not fair since I have hypothyroidism but, like, FOREVER! lol It took a long time of building a foundation and finally losing some weight. So, if I can stick through it through really dim times, you can work through your weakness of instant gratification.
  • You aren't really hydrating yourself and it is the carbonation which is the problem (ok, maybe the artificial sweetener isn't so great either). Plus, it costs more than water. I cut out diet soda in order to save money on my grocery bill and to reduce the trash in the house. It wasn't for health reasons. Turns out I felt a…
  • Hell yeah they hurt! Good job!
  • That *might* be but you don't stop burning calories once you step off the machine. Although calories consumed numbers are a helpful guide, you can get too attached to them and lose focus on what your ultimate goal is. If you can afford it, get a heart rate monitor that straps to your chest. I use a Polar F7 or at least I…
  • I am sorry you are going through a hard time. Sometimes it helps to remember that you need to exercise like you need to brush your teeth. Such things are not dependent on moods, they are what is required for your body. The CEO of Weight Watchers (I am not on that program) said in an interview that willpower is not enough.…
  • I am Beachbody all the way so I use their coach discount so it doesn't bite as hard. They have deep discounts from time to time. HHA was on sale not too long ago. Same with TurboFire. Anyway, do you have a subscription to Netflix. You can do those.
  • You should read the ingredients list to make your decision. I use Shakeology but your mileage might vary.
  • I did my first couple of rounds but I then I was also doing other training. I don't recommend THAT. You probably could do 6x week. Although when I first started Insanity I found I needed naps in the middle of the day (just in Month 1). That seems to always happen when I start a new round of Insanity.
  • You can enter in custom exercises. I have one for Pure Cardio for example and entered in what my HRT said. I just have it under cardio exercises.
  • Self defense is a lot more than learning striking and grappling. Even though I do several disciplines, I wouldn't say it is for self-defense. After all no martial art really makes you Taze proof, bullet proof, knife proof, multiple attacker proof, and what not. So why bother? 'Cuz it is fun and oddly satisfying. It does…
  • I have never quite understood the BJJ lifestyle thing. I use MFP actually to help others stay on track with their nutrition. I train at an MMA place so there is quite a bit going on. BJJ is not my favorite discipline. I started out with TKD so I consider myself a kicker. I recently started up with regular wrestling just…
  • Once gloves go sour, that's it. You can mask it but it's still there. TitleMMA.com makes a nice smelling disinfectant spray for equipment.
  • Sounds like impact and tension. I found wearing a mouth piece while just training (like bag or pads) helps a lot. Then there are certain yoga poses and physical therapy stretches that work. It is helpful to train in more than one mode of movement.
  • If you take it up BJJ, you don't really have a choice in partner size. I am very small and so everyone is 30+ lbs. I am still alive! It is a little tricky transitioning from habit of movement (boxing) to another (grappling). I know what you mean. With striking you can *see* that you have option of moving out of harm's way…
