  • Hi, welcome!!! I'm 52, 5' 1" and 8 pounds to my goal. Feel free to add me if you'd like. I could use a refresher on the clean, less processed food myself. I started strong, but ove the last month or so I have let that darned old packaged stuff back!
  • Okay, I am not an expert, but the more I am on this website the more I'm learning. Determining your average caloric burn is important to be able to lose weight. So, you need to know what you are eating and what you are burning each day over a period of time and average it. I pulled this off the internet to give you a…
  • Thanks, great suggestion.
  • I agree with most of the MFP posts. Your current weight loss is good. Think of it this way, it's a weight LOSS! Yippee! Weight loss is such a mind game, it's incredible. We give up when in fact we are doing good because our expectations are too grand. Slow and steady wins the race over time. I would bet it took you a while…
  • I struggle with moderation too. I've had to take a 12 step recovery program style of dealing with it. I've given up the fight and realize I am what I am and it is what it is. If I have it around, I'll eat it. If I have one, I'll probably have two. So, I don't put myself through the emotional pain by tempting myself. I…
  • Since January, I have lost 18.4 pounds. At the end of December I weighed 154. The first of Janaury I went on the typical new year diet, but I've kept it up. I'm basically following Dr. Warren's the Daniel Plan and trying to eat more natural, home cooked foods. Plus, using MFP has helped me monitor my caloric intake. The…
  • I haven't reached my goal yet, but I've managed to lose 17 pounds by cleaning up my diet. I'm really looking at what's in those packaged foods and watching my sugar and refined, processed flour as much as possible. I've taken back my kitchen, joined a farm fresh vegetable delivery program and am eating less frozen…
  • Obviously this is easier said than done or we wouldn't need MFP. So, I encourage you to not give. Just by being on this website you have made a positive changes in your life.
  • If the caloric count is the same, I'd look at the nutritional value of the food to make my decision. So, I'd pick fries in this case.
  • I just wanted to welcome you to MFP. Sounds like you are on the right track. I take probiotics daily but for digestion purposes to maintain a healthy flora blance. It promotes digestive health. Then, the pistachios are a healthy choice just watch the amount you eat. I started last month and I've gotten lots of help from…
  • I started out by adding a bit of salt, pepper and cheese or butter to some of the veggies I hated. That made it easier to eat. I didn't eat a lot either. Just started with a little bit then gradually added more. I used to hate broccoli and asparagus, but now I love them both. I did this years ago and started with the…
  • Welcome to MFP. I wish you lots of succes and feel free to "friend" me if you just want general support for trying to live a healthy lifestyle. As I read your story one thought came to mind. I hope your physician had your thyroid tested to make sure it's functioning in the normal range. Then, I thought I'd share something…
  • Welcome to the club. I was on years ago, but gave up. I have unfortunately ended up gaining all I lost back. This time I am seeing a direct relationship between the journaling, honest tracking, and support. Good luck and please feel free to add me as a friend. Linda
  • Welcome to MFP! Thanks for sharing and keeping things real. I struggle with emotional eating and I have to tell myself that life is about progress, not perfection. Every baby step adds up. Log your food intake honestly and faithfully and move a little each day. Good luck. Feel free to add me as a friend if you'd like.
  • I love your attitude and the shoes! I couldn't walk in those for the life of me! Keep up the great work. Linda
  • Slow weight loss is always frustrating. But, it's the best way to go. I try to remind myself that I am more than a number on the scale. You could be losing inches and fat, but gaining muscle. So, don't give up. I found that while I changed to healthier choices in food, the choices I made were higher in fat. I have to…
  • It's a good question as I had the same thought. While I work at a desk, I move around and take the stairs from floor to floor. So, I was wondering the same thing. But, I kept it as it is and I log the extra activity into my exercise log. My guess is that MFP only wants to know if your actual work activities are such that…
  • Welcome to the group. I'm a returning member in the exact same boat. I can blame it all on the aging process and life, but it won't help me lose what I've managed to gain. So, I'm owning my pieces of the pie (refined process foods) and moving ahead. I've found that honest tracking is one key to sucess. Good luck!
  • Hi, I am in the same boat. I'm 52 and over the last two years I have watched with horror as the weight has climbed back onto my tiny 5'1" frame. So, I'm back on the site to help me get back to a healthy BMI. I can't blame it all to my age though. I went through a very difficult year emotionally and many of my old, bad,…
  • Okay, I weigh almost every day. I have a scale that shows weight, and water and fat percentages. This helps me so I can see if any additional weight is water or not. I used to drive myself crazy worrying about it, now if my weight is higher and my water percentages are higher than normal, I know what's going on.
