  • This is an oldish thread but really great read. I've been doing body pump for 6 months now...usually 2-3x a week and I do spinning 3x a week. I had actually been doing body pump as my "weight training" thing. I've always been skinny fat so working out regularly was completely new to me and I probably didn't do the research…
  • I hate all forms of running... but spinning, like others have suggested is a great alternative. I started spinning consistently about 6 months ago and I go about 3x a week. Recently, I've gotten bored of it and put myself on a treadmill once a week. The first week my muscles were on fire! But my body had gotten a lot…
  • thanks for the suggestions!
  • I love wine, and am just one pound away from my goal weight even after indulging in several drinks every week. The key is to try and remember and count each drink you have, and don't just use those as "throwaway" calories or something. I try and only drink on days when I've worked out, so if I have four glasses of wine…
  • I have the Polar model. A word of warning, the first week I got it, it was registering "00" as my heart rate. Unless I'm dead, that's just not right. Turns out I'd been missing a key step. You have to make sure and thoroughly wash the chest strap before you use it the first time, and wash it after every time you work out.…
  • What I do sometimes if I don't need to know the exact count of every thing is just leave a bunch of calories left in the day as my "room for error." The most I'll do in that case is 200 cals or so. If you do a quick workout you can do that without having to weigh everything :D. But maybe don't listen to me because I'm just…
  • I only started losing after not eating back all my calories. Even then if you don't have a ton to lose then unfortunately it just may take you a while. I started with 6 pounds to lose and only lost 2 since January and that's after working out 4 times a week. But when I started seeing results they came fast. The two pounds…
  • My husband makes a week's worth of breakfast sandwiches on Sunday and freezes them to eat throughout the week. Try the Arnold Sandwich Thins (100 cals) and a scrambled egg (70 cals) and a laughing cow wedge (35 cals), which I use as a substitute for butter in this context.
  • Cool. Thanks for the advice. I had a turkey empanada, figuring I may save a handful of calories by doing that instead of the beef. I'm pretty sure they are baked, but they probably do have lard in them since the owner seems to pride herself on being authentic. Alas, this is the last one I'm having this month :D
  • I've finally broken out of a plateau by upping my workouts from 3 times a week to 4-5 days. Also, I did spinning twice last week and this week lost 2 pounds. It may be temporary, but it's nice to see the numbers going down again regardless. I'd say if working out 3-4 days is working for you, there's no need to change it.
  • I have a bunch of "go-to" healthy snacks that I've been "going to" daily for the last month or so. Eventually, I'll probably get sick of eating a clementine, 10 almonds, and ostrim jerkey as my snack every day. But I'm willing to wear em out! It's really helpful when I'm working for 8 hours and want to avoid the vending…
  • I have an irrational fear that when I'm putting the bar over my head and onto my back for squats that I'll smack the top of my head with the barbell...hence why I only squat with two 10 pound discs (or whatever they're called). I can't afford a personal trainer, but I've started going to weight training classes (Body…
  • Did someone say egg and avocado? Cause this is da bomb: http://lifehacker.com/5881942/bake-an-egg-in-an-avocado-for-a-fast-and-healthy-breakfast-treat
  • Mayo is ok, but it doesn't "hurt" me to go without it. I made a tuna salad sandwich last week only using yellow mustard, red onion, and a chopped up pickle. If I had looked ahead, I prob would have put in a little avocado in it to, but it was just as satisfying to me as one with mayo IMO.
  • I had chocolate covered strawberries with freshly melted chocolate wedges last night and was able to stick to not having too much. MFP said it was in the neighborhood of 85 cals for the chocolate, even if it was more then that I didn't eat back all of my exercise cals last night. A few weeks ago, for my birthday, I had…
  • The Laughing Cow cheese wedges are only 35 cals each. No, they aren't quite the same, but they have so few calories that those with some light crackers or carrots or something give you the "feeling" of cheese. Personally, I try and make my dinners or lunch light enough that I have room for the fattier cheeses. I typically…
  • Booze is awesome. I'm making myself cut down on alcohol consumption, last week starting with just 2 glasses of wine a week. Since it's been a rough week for me, I'm having a bottle of wine tomorrow even if I have to eat nothing for dinner to do it. For me, there's no joy to dieting/working out. It's no different from…
  • I know there are some fluctuations for water retention etc., it's just so frustrating to be working out for about three weeks now with no results (before I started logging/using this site in serious I still worked out 3x a week). Good point. There is so much conflicting info out there though...a lot of posts on this site…
  • I woke up a pound heavier this morning after exercizing more and eating less. Yay, working out and being healthy! I should just go and eat a donut :/ (not a good start to my day).
  • Thanks! MFP tells me to eat 1380 cals a day, which is what I stick to when I don't exercise, usually on Fridays and Saturdays. When I exercise I eat back all my calories so I end up eating more. I work out 3-5 times a week. At least one of those days I'm doing the "pure" cardio on the elliptical for 30-40 min. and the…
  • Thanks. There is a circuit training selection, it's actually what I ended up using for today. The heart rate monitor said about 300... I may just try not eating back all of my calories to balance it out. Though I usually enjoy doing that.
  • Doritos. It's why I never buy them.
  • Splenda, black coffee, coconut milk creamer that's 10 cals a serving, diet Coke, spices, sometimes I won't bother with veggies if they're raw (things like carrot sticks, celery, raw red pepper). I try and log everything, but I figure if I don't log something that day it's usually a thing that has so few calories/ishealthy…
  • For me it's just not knowing what to eat. Usually when I undereat a day it's because I honestly can't think of what else would be yummy to eat and still healthy at the same time. There are only so many spoonfuls of peanut butter a girl can eat. As I get more used to the *system* of eating healthy, it will be easier to have…
  • I don't like to work out when I feel people are staring either. Short of going to a woman's only gym, maybe you can take the lighter freeweights and work out in an unused yoga room or something at the gym? Or just do your weight training at home and cardio at the gym?
  • Crunchmaster crisps are also really good, but I think those are 120 cal for 15 of em. I'll be getting the special K ones now!
  • I'm mourning olive oil. 112 calories? I used to just take a bottle of it and pour it in the pan till it "looked right" thinking as long as it's not Crisco, I'd be fine :/
  • God I hate these threads.
  • I had a bottle of wine on Thursday and a glass on Sunday, and I'm pretty sure it's the reason I haven't seen any weight loss this week (I weigh every day). It's such a downer. This Thursday (my drinking night lol), I'm going to force myself to have no more then two glasses of wine with a healthy dinner (prob a salad) and…
  • Oh great, another thing that's supposed to be bad for you :/
