If you're running and doing crossfit I would DEFINITELY recommend adding calories.

Well, in my situation my cramps actually got worse :( I'm currently just skipping them using birth control. I'm a huge advocate of those mini heating pads you put in your undies when I was having periods. Love those things. Good luck, madame!

I read somewhere that it had something to do with the blood rushing to the legs and the arteries and capillaries were expanding trying to accomadate the increased and unusual blood flow. I'm not currently a student, but I work in academia and have definitely been in your situation. I would suggest some planning in your meals (if that's possible) and not beating yourself up. One day/hour/minute at a time! :)

I have hallux limitus so I get them pretty bad. I roll them out with a rolling pin (yep, it looks ridic, but whatever) and I sit on my heels. That seems to have the best results for me. Good luck!
