  • Thanks for the ideas!
  • Thanks for putting things into perspective. I am thankful that I have a house -- a small house, but it's our home. I am thankful for our 3 little kids. I am thankful that my son's T1 diabetes can be treated. It is challenging at times, but at least we live in a time when he can be expected to live and thrive .... so many…
  • This is very enlightening to me. I had heard that Ben Franklin was a vegetarian, but I hadn't read this before. Makes me think. I try to be vegan for the most part. When I occasionally eat cheese I don't beat myself up for it. It's not a religion to me. I avoid animal products because I think we are herbivorous creations.…
  • YEAH! I always think wives do have a right to control what their husbands eat. If we are spending so much time and effort on our own health, than surely we should do the same for them. After all ... who else does the husband expect to be taking care of him in the next 20 to 30 years when his health starts failing. I don't…
  • Here is the most popular vegan burger recipe from my favorite vegan food blog. It has no soy! It looks so good, and one day I will make it! http://kblog.lunchboxbunch.com/2012/02/easy-sweet-potato-veggie-burgers-with.html
  • Nevermind my previous post. I just checked the package. They are made of soy ... thought for sure it was lentils.
  • I don't have a recipe, but I recently discovered the meatless meatballs from Trader Joe's are vegan. I don't think there is soy. I think it's chick peas. I've been thinking that I want to smash them on a burger bun and try it as a hamburger.
  • AMEN to that!!! Good for you repurchasing your food again... At my house I'm a vegetarian and my husband is an omnivore. I only occasionally buy his animal products for recipes he wants to make. He likes to cook, but I ask him to keep it in moderation for weekends. I guess compromise a little? I won't eat his meat, but…
  • I agree. I recommend Eat to Live by Dr. Fuhrman, too. Excellent book. I'm reading it now for a 2nd time. Also, I'm not sure if you are a new vegan, but the 21-Day Kickstart diet (vegan) by Neal Barnard is good for an introduction to vegan weight loss dieting. Neal Barnard's plan may not be suitable for serious…
  • Fantastic transformation!
  • My diabetic son is not vegan, but he's vegetarian for the most part. For a "free food" (which is low carb between insulin shots) I will give him a meatless meatball from Trader Joe's. For a whole serving it's only 8 carbs, and it's plant-based. Has a higher protein to carb ratio. Works for me. Also, I totally agree with…
  • LOL I love it! I want to tell this to all my omnivorous family members!
  • You and I have more in common than you know. My husband was diagnosed with type 2 the same week that my son was diagnosed with type 1. He tested his blood sugar with my son's meter for fun and that's how we found out - while we were in the hospital for my son's diagnosis. I know that type 2 is different, but still.. I am…
  • I have been asking his doctor for him to be on the pump since he was diagnosed, but they keep telling me that he has to wait a few months. Frustrating a little, but at least 6 months is coming upon us fast.
  • ok this is first time I'm replying in a quote. Hope I'm doing this right! Laurenell, it's very encouraging to meet you having had diabetes your whole life. Other mom's of T1D kids tell me it's sort of a blessing that my son was diagnosed so young. They say he won't remember any other way. Of course, I see you have had…
  • Hellraisedfire, I can imagine that your boyfriend's mother is very thankful for you!
  • I do want to get him on the pump as soon as he qualifies for it. I think it would be so much better for him. They tell me he has to have been diabetic for 6 months before he can get on the pump. Thanks for the encouragement!
  • This makes sense that worn and washed clothes are not an accurate measurement.
  • OMG I just posted about this very thing this morning! Yeah, what's up with that!? I've been a size 12 for about 24 lbs so far ...
  • Congratulations! Wow, so amazing!
