  • Love red bell peppers. Raw dipped in hummus, wrapped in tinfoil and roasted on the grill or in the oven, sauteed with other veggies, or chopped in thrown in salads they are definitely my favorite. I also love grilled asparagus, or pretty much any veggies tossed in olive oil, salt and pepper and thrown on the grill.
  • What's a foam roller and where do I find one? And what strength training exercises do you do that help with your knees? I appreciate all the advice!
  • I know I'm a bit late but I'm in!
  • I'm also training for my first 5k, and I agree that it's best to try and get out and run in any kind of weather. Having the right clothes to run in makes a huge difference for me. On colder days I love under armor, keeps you nice and warm!
  • Everbody's different but I often have a heart rate in the 190s while running or on the elliptical and have talked to my doctor about it and he's not concerned

  • I saw this in my cosmo magazine this month! Sounds like fun, I've been wanting to try it!
  • I just don't want to overdo it. I know high amounts of protein are good to repair muscles but I also know too much is hard on your body, so I don't want to cross the line.
  • I think maybe I worded that wrong. I have a tendency to graze and snack throughout the day out of boredom rather than hunger, so when I feel like snacking, I try drinking water instead. Usually I am thirsty, and yes I do end up peeing all the time lol. I just wanted to make sure I'm being safe and not doing any damage by…
  • Thanks for the advice guys! I rested and started with a slow jog next workout to warm up my muscles a bit more before starting my next Jillian workout and made it through the whole workout with no pain whatsoever!
  • I parked at the far end of the parking lots today even when there were spots up close so I could walk a little extra :)
  • Done! I find if I get the bigger poland spring water bottles and add mio, I end up drinking like crazy without thinking about it. I'm at 16 glasses so far today, had 16 yesterday, too.
  • I never knew that about muscles retaining water, that does make me feel a lot better! I think that's true, I probably am weighing myself too frequently. I find the days that I see results on the scale to be very motivating so I guess I get carried away checking in. Everyone's input was really helpful, thanks guys! :)
  • Hey, I'm Ashlee! I'm a 22 year old nursing unit assistant in the oncology department of the local hospital. I'm also a student and starting nursing school fall of 2013. After being in a relationship for over 2 years, I've gotten probably a little too comfortable and got off track with my diet and exercise. I miss the great…
  • My favorite very filling breakfast is a breakfast sandwich on a whole grain flat bread by arnold sandwich thins, with egg beaters, fat free cheese, and a morningstar farms veggie breakfast sausage. The bread is 100 calories, the egg beaters are 30 calories, the fat free cheese is 30 calories, and the sausage is 80, so 240…
  • I'll still log everything I eat, but I'm not going to set a calorie limit for that day. If I go over my allotted 1200 by a considerable amount, I'm not going to sweat it. I'll make some healthier alternatives this year but keep some of our traditional fattening foods we've always had. Also, an extra intense workout the day…
  • No, I wouldn't worry about it. That's averaging out to about 3 lbs a week and it's always much quicker at first when your body isn't used to your diet and exercise levels yet. Your weight loss will likely slow down eventually but for now enjoy the results your seeing! Congrats!
  • Anything high in protein will help you feel full longer. Whole grains are huge. For breakfast, egg beaters are quick and easy, lower calorie, and high in protein. Also some regular eggs to hardboil are great. Oatmeal, whole grain bread for toast with natural peanut butter and half a banana or polaner sugar free jelly with…
  • I just did this workout last night. I definitely feel like its challenging. I'm always sore for days after any Jillian workout. The only discouraging thing is I usually seem to see a weight gain on the scale the next day rather than weight loss. I feel like this is probably just muscle but its frustrating. Also, I never…
  • A few of our favorite light recipes: Taco salad made with extra lean ground turkey, black beans, salsa, diced peppers and onions, lots of lettuce, reduced fat or fat free cheddar cheese, and fat free sour cream. If diet allows, toast a light whole wheat tortilla in the oven until crisp and load the rest of the salad on top…
  • I would love the recipe for that sweet potato salad! It sounds delicious!
  • Check out cookinglight.com. This site is full of thousands of recipes ranging from gourmet to quick and easy. I've discovered several different recipes for stuffing, turkey, cranberry sauce, green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole, pumpkin pie, pumpkin biscuits, etc. They're all designed to be light, healthier…
  • Exactly my plan! My mom usually does all of the thanksgiving cooking, but I've asked to take over a few things so that I can make a healthier version. There's no way to make her mashed potatoes healthy though, so just this once I'm going to indulge!
  • Try cookinglight.com. I found healthy recipes for sweet potato casserole, stuffing, green bean casserole, pumpkin biscuits, etc.
  • I've been scoping out some healthier recipe alternatives to the traditional thanksgiving day recipes on cookinglight.com. I figure this way it's a good compromise between the thanksgiving favorites I love, and keeping my meal light. That being said, I'm still preparing myself for an intense workout the day before and after…
