  • My prince of a 6 year old Thoroughbred Rory is going to be on stall rest for 30 days so I'm going to be working my pony with an eye to do a schooling jumper show. I have a friend who events giving me lessons and she said my equitation is just about perfect so we're going to concentrate on getting my other horses in shape…
  • June goal - be able to trot on my horse for 20 minutes straight without either of us crying uncle. Keep up the 1-2 pound a week drop.
  • Howdy folks! I turned the big 5-0 in March. I had a gastric sleeve done 4 years ago and lost over 100 lbs. I've kept it off except for last year when I had a broken ankle and wasn't able to do much for a while. I'm back on MFP to drop the 30-ish I gained. Easy to put on, hard to take off for sure. I stay active with…
  • For me, it all comes down to sustainability. I don't belong to a gym or take group classes because for me that is not sustainable. I own and ride horses and I love it, so that's what I do. I also like hiking with my dogs. If it's fun it's not hard.
  • I do Iyengar yoga once a week and my instructor gave me "Yoga for Equestrians" for my birthday. It's a good book with pretty easy poses and really great information on breathing.
  • I was going to do a walk/trot equitation class but I had an emergency with my father (who lives with me) so I had to scratch. Oh well. More shows are coming up!
  • Hi kids! My name is Morgan, I'm an adult (just turned 50) returning to my love of horses over the last few years. I have three Thoroughbreds (two of them off-track) and one Quarter Horse something or other pony. I had a bad fall in March of 2015 and shattered my left ankle. Took a while for me to get to a weight-bearing…
  • Let's all check back here in 5 years and weigh in and compare. I believe statistically as much as 60% of the registered users here will have gained the weight they lost back plus some bonus poundage regardless of what their hopes and dreams were as the scale went down. There's a lot of very gross generalizations being…
  • I get hormonal migraines. My problem was the swing right before the migraine where I could literally eat a horse. And all its food. And ask for dessert. I've had bariatric surgery so I'm not sure how that's going to affect all the hormonal stuff yet (I'm only a month out). Like you it has never had anything to do with…
  • Banana and water and sleep!
  • This. Which is why I now knit. Keeps my hands busy and full.
  • Nobody but you and your doctor should be deciding what your "good size" should be.
  • Fantastic idea! I'd have to say at most restaurants you'd more likely be putting 2/3 of it in the box.
  • This. That's quite a lot of immaturity going on there - what is he, 12? Kick him to the curb. Best advice ever from my aunt in regards to men (or partners in general of whatever ilk) - Never marry (date/live with/whatever) a man who can not give you at least what you can give yourself. And that's not really all about the…
  • Just eat less. There are days when I'd rather have a piece of pizza over one more frickin' salad. So I have the pizza. There's no good food or bad food. It's just food.
  • 1. Whens the best time to weigh ones self? - colthes on/off ? - if its in the morning after morning rituals? - etc. Just be consistent. I usually weight myself in the a.m. right before I get in the shower. 2. Working out when is it best to do that in the morning/afternoon/nights? - I work 10am till 5 and im up by 8:30 to…
  • I read the article and I look forward to more research being done around this idea of "stasis". It's NOT an excuse - that's not a good way to look at this at all. It's a greater understanding of how the human body works. There was a similar and very interesting exercise done at a prison. Volunteers were grouped into…
  • Those are all good tips - not really junk science per se. Doing all of them won't necessarily make you skinny though.
  • Please don't feed the trolls.
  • Throw nuts into a salad, or add some yogurt to fruit. 900 is indeed way too low.
  • I try and avoid food that is not food but has enough calories to be a meal. Like Take 5 candy bars. I was addicted to those for a while until I looked at the calories.
  • High in calories and carbs. When I quit drinking I dropped 15 pounds without doing anything else.
  • Practice. It's tough. My metabolism has always been "starve for a week, lose a pound, smell a piece of pizza, gain 10". Let me once again say that that metabolism has never changed for my whole entire life, regardless of level of activity, diet, etc. So it's a real ***** that I'm battling not only things I do have control…
  • I feel your pain, man. I'm not doing quite as much exercise as you, but I just don't lose weight. A couple of years ago I spent 6 months working out 5 days a week, and working out pretty hard, in preparation for a fairly major surgery. I ate a lot of salads and stayed off of any processed junk food. My whole body shape…
  • Fantastic info! I'd like to throw in the other popcorn experiment: http://www.vcstar.com/news/2011/sep/18/stale-popcorn-provides-fresh-view-on-the-power/
  • All good advice so far. I have a hard time getting my husband motivated - he plays a lot of PC games so he's sitting all day at work and then wants to sit all night at home. My advice is the same as others - just leave him alone. He'll either want to join you or not, but it's his road to travel.
  • Trader Joe's frozen Steel Cut Oatmeal. $1.99 for two day's worth. I eat it every day. Just take it out of the plastic, put in in a bowl, nuke for about 3:30 and voila! A nice big helping of delicious, filling and oh-so-good for you oatmeal. I don't add anything to it because they are just that tasty. I checked your…
  • For me, the gym needs to be SUPER convenient for me to make a commitment. Like, I have to drive by it on the way to work and they have to have showers. At the moment, no gym meets that requirement for me so I work out at home. I am going to look at treadmills this weekend. There are some fantastic deals out there.
  • Roasted and salted Pepitas. I'm so sad they are so calorific because they are a very tasty snack.
  • This may seem completely counter-intuitive and might even (gasp!) irritate some people, but here you go: Embrace the fat of you. The second I started using terms like "my big fat *kitten*" and ditched "Rubenesque" and "BBW" my whole outlook changed. As fat folk we have a tendency to not want to admit that yes, we are…
