My advice to newbies

Always wear clean underwear in case you're rushed into hospital for some reason - medical staff abhor skidmarks :happy:0

This may seem completely counter-intuitive and might even (gasp!) irritate some people, but here you go:
Embrace the fat of you.
The second I started using terms like "my big fat *kitten*" and ditched "Rubenesque" and "BBW" my whole outlook changed. As fat folk we have a tendency to not want to admit that yes, we are porkers, thunder thighs, what have you. We hide from mirrors, we dress in black, we think that when we suck in our gut we are actually sucking it in. It doesn't. I've tested it.
I got rid of the shame and the guilt by simply asking "Do these pants make my fat butt look even fatter?"
I am also not going to lose 100 pounds in a week. So right now, I'm still fat. Fat and counting calories and doing some sit-ups because I'd like to do some stuff that being fat makes hard to do. I am not ashamed or embarrassed. I've got a pretty face AND wide load hips. Whoopee doo!
We don't need to have national fat acceptance (so not a fan of that movement) - we need to accept who were are where we are today, in the moment.
Say it with me - "Today, I am fat."
Don't you feel better?0 -

What is your advice?
Never not give up! Even when it seems like the scale is not moving..
^This means to always give up... lol0 -
Keep a water bottle or something around you all the time and keep drinking it.
Never ask: how can I replace my fat with muscle? or: "I just want to tone up, how do I get long lean muscles?"
Don't beat yourself up if you make a "mistake" and eat something "bad." It is not a mistake, it is a choice you made and it's part of living. If you're going to guilt and shame yourself over every action and morsel, you're going to be miserable. Own it and move on.
Identify your triggers and try to avoid them.

1. Eat a healthy diet.
2. Exercise regularly
3. Don't take nutrition advice from a personal trainer, fitness website, anyone's blog or most people on MFP.
4. Find a diet and exercise plan that you can live with forever, because that's how long you need to do it.
5. Don't sweat the days you go off plan. That's just life. Something else you have to do forever.0 -

Have a realistic goal weight in mind!
Drink water, eat food, workout, sleep
and have fun doing it! Experiment with different foods and exercises!0 -
What is your advice?
Never not give up! Even when it seems like the scale is not moving..
When the scale isn't moving the inches maybe...get yourself a measuring tape and start measuring!! :happy:0 -
2. If you drink beer, drink good beer, none of that light crap.
That's a good one. If you're going to "waste" calories and drink beer, at least make it something worth drinking. Nothing worse than throwing away a portion of your daily calorie allowance on some crappy bud or coors or whatever. Furthermore, if you want to get drunk, avoid beer. It's an inefficient method. You can get a much better buzz off of drinking some good whiskey/vodka/whatever (I prefer straight). No extra calories like mixed drinks, beers or wine.
Another thing to add for people like me. You don't have to become vegan/vegetarian to lose weight. You don't have to eat like a bird and consume nothing but salads. If you're like me and you can't stand these foods you'll still be fine. You can eat burgers and pizza. Try eating one burger instead of two. Even better, use a whole wheat bun and some low fat cheese on it. Eat 2-3 slices of pizza instead of the whole thing. Even better, get thin crust and don't load it up with tons of bad stuff.
You can go out to eat too. Most major restaurants have full nutrition info on their websites. Pick out something reasonable. Or at least, watch your portions.
Realize that when someone says "that's terrible for you" or "that's unhealthy", the truth is, just about everything is unhealthy in some form or another. It is very cliche to say, but moderation is everything. Try to eat decently most of the time. Follow an 80%/20% rule. Whatever works for you personally. It's a long journey (approximately the rest of your life), so follow a plan that is reasonable and that you can stick to. Eating amazingly healthy and "clean" is great but when you burn out after a month and put on 20lbs eating ho-hos, it's pointless. Know your limitations.
PS - One more thing. If you have a question, at least try to do a cursory search before posting. Realize that there are a LOT of people on these boards. Questions like "Going over my daily protein allowance?", "Should I eat my exercise calories?", "How do I adjust my macro percentages?", etc.. are asked literally 20x a day, every day.0 -
Eating food feels good for an hour a day.
Being fit feels good 24 hours a day.0 -

The likelihood of you burning enough calories during sex to make it worthwhile is very slim. We all know what it is, and some get it pretty regularly so you're not going to shock any of us.
100 calorie snack packs might get you to your goal weight, but you're not going to be happy with it when you get there.
If you don't want to hear the brutal truth, then don't ask the question.0 -

I'm sure you didn't mean that like it sounds, but I guess the partner would be the determining factor as to whether it's worth it.0 -

My advice...take it or leave it I dont care. Im not here to make you feel better by sugarcoating your lack of commitment.
1) Ladies...your period; you have been having it for a long time. Yes you will gain weight. Its water weigh, it will come back off. Keep exercising the whole time. Yes It happens to other women. No there isn't anything you can do. Suck it up. Oh and dont eat the chocolate! Oh and if you must post about it after this... Please search the forum for other posts as Im sure there are 1000's of posts that have already been made answering your question.
2) Eat your calories http://shouldieatmyexercisecalories.com
3)If you gain weight or eat something bad... you haven't failed. You only fail when you quit or give up and stop trying.
4)This isn't easy. Its hard. You need commitment. You have to want to be thin and fit more than you want to breath air. I'm not kidding!!
5) Your fad diet, special pills or, pregnant horse piss may actually help you lose weight. congratulations! Losing weight is hard. But being healthy and fit is more important. When you fail to put the hard work in to retrain your mind and body to eat properly then ultimately you are cheating yourself and eventually you will wind up back on the internet looking for a tape worm or some other magic bullet. Hard work and dedication that's the only thing that really works!
6) eat less move more...yes its that simple
7) Calories burned > Calories consumed .... yes this is also that simple
And a word of inspiration... Live this!
Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark, in the hopeless swamps of the approximate, the not-quite, the not-yet, the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish, in lonely frustration for the life you deserved, but have never been able to reach. Check your road and the nature of your battle. The world you desired can be won. It exists, it is real, it is possible, it is yours. - John Galt
