  • Sounds great to me too! Friend request sent. Others feel free to add me too!
  • I love this thread. Everyone please friend me! I think I've found my tribe. I'm making healthier choices, but I think everything averages out over the course of a week if I have some special treats. I don't think the world is going to end if I eat processed food or don't eat kale twice a day.
  • I'm in! Looking for friends for support and accountability too! I just started training for a 5k, and want to create new healthy food habits. 10-7-18. 191.0
  • I'm in! Slow and steady wins the race, right? I need this. My work pants are snug, and I'm not happy. I want to feel better, look better, and be healthier.
  • My workplace now is pretty active, but when I used to work a desk job, one friend had a little bicycle pedal thing under her desk so she could keep her legs moving while she was working on the pc. It was very small and compact, maybe you could find something like that? Can you ask to have a standing desk at your work? Or…
  • This sounds great, thank you for the link. I've got something new to try now.
  • This sounds really good and easy to make! Gonna give it a try. I think I might top it with bean sprouts, like pho. Thanks!
  • Sounds like you really need some friends and connections to lean on. I'm sending you a friend request right after I finish this. My mother is also an extremely toxic, verbally abusive person. Right now, I see her about once a year - I would see her less often, but my sister usually wants me to go with her for a visit, and…
  • I had fresh strawberries for a snack instead of the brownies on the counter!
  • I cook it in my rice cooker. When it's done, I make a salad out of it with: pecans or sunflower seeds, sliced olives, drained marinated artichoke hearts, cherry tomatoes, and a little red onion. Basically, I root around in my veggie drawers and find what looks good to throw in. It changes according to the time of year, but…
  • I'm with you! I'm learning new ways to cook, and better ingredients to choose for my meals. I am learning how to make better choices at work and what my triggers are for making poor choices! I am committed to making this a change in how I live my life, and not a temporary diet change. This is a new, healthier…
  • I also am hypothyroid. I've been taking Synthroid or it's generic for 14 years. I'd have to agree with other posters that it does seem to take a lot more exercise to get the pounds off. I've been eating better than I used to (I used to eat a lot of processed crap and fast food) since New Year's, but I haven't lost major…
  • I had to help out my sister by taking her cat in for a few months. We did the introduction by confining her cat to a room with his own litterbox, toys, and food/water dishes for a week. We'd go in and play with him and hang out so he didn't get lonely. When he felt comfortable, we encouraged a little cracked-open-door…
  • Dried squid. Basically, squid jerky. Wow, you'd get the most intense squid breath. Only the people who loved you could be in the same room.
  • please, please, go see a nutritionist for a reccommendation for a good food plan for you. I didn't realize what I really needed until I took a nutrition class at my local community college. Also, I have a low thyroid, and taking thyroid supplements really makes a difference in my weight management too. Maybe you need a…
  • I am loving the guy who played Lincoln (Linc) from the Other Universe in Fringe. Ooooo too cute. Amazing what a tight white t shirt will do for a guy.
  • I'm 40 and returning to college to study nursing, surrounded by young fit people. That's an inspiration if I ever needed one! You can do it! It's never never too late! I never thought I would be back in school in a million years, but I'm loving it and the new direction my life is taking. It's never too late to carve out a…
  • Head for what my husband likes to call "the hippie aisle" at your local grocery. Some of them are stocked better than others. For me, at my local Raley's, the Organic/Natural Foods aisle has a good selection. I also go to a co-op downtown which is all local foods, organic produce. Maybe try checking your local listings to…
  • Kim, good for you for deciding to make a change. I'll support you! Feel free to send me a friend note if you like. My family also loooooves to eat and celebrate together, so I sympathize! I also recently decided to make a change for myself, and am just getting started on eating healthier and recording my food every day.…
  • I'm with you on this! Feel free to add me (and anyone else on this thread, feel free too). I am going to start trying to eat clean(er) and I think having friends who are too will help me be accountable. We can help each other and share recipe ideas too! I'm 40 and just started on MFP in January. I'm hoping to get into…
  • Gochujang (korean hot paste) Fresh mozzarella balls (love 'em in salad or with tomatoes and balsamic vinegar) In-season veggies (right now it's broccoli or kale)
  • hi, I take a multivitamin for women, and my Dr. said CoQ10 100mg supplements were good for my heart. I also take a fish oil supplement. I try to eat fish a couple times a week, but I figure the supplement can only help. I think if you take a multivitamin to make sure you have enough iron and other vitamins in your system,…
  • I know this is non-helpful, but the beignets in New Orleans Square are sooooooo good. Maybe jog there from the front gate, to work off the calories for 3 of them in a bag with powdered sugar. I agree with a previous poster, there seem to be healthy options everywhere you sit down to eat - at least they're easier to…
  • Hello Apples, My name is Lisa and I'm 40. I've always had a thicker midsection, even when I was thinner. I remember a fad at my jr high was for girls to wear a rolled up bandanna around their waist as a belt and there was nooooo way that was going to work for my waist as a size 12. Fast forward to a little kid at a 4th of…
  • I buy modal cotton shirts from Lands End online, I like their V-necks. They have a nice stretchy, drapey quality to them, so they fit nicely over my boobs, have room for my upper arms, and drape nicely over my tummy. I hate shopping at the mall, I buy most of my clothes online.
  • Chico, CA!
  • Treat the fruit like you would a bundle of herbs in a soup or stew - wrap them up in a bundle of cheesecloth, and then you can take it out when you are done cooking, and you won't have to eat any of them. My grocery store has cheesecloth (just fabric with a really wide mesh/weave) in the cooking supplies section of the…
  • I'm 40 and just joined the site myself. I got a Fitbit One right before New Year's and am using that every day to track my steps. I thought I was a lot more active than I really was! It's been an eye-opener and it's giving me incentive to stay on track. I made a New Year's resolution to track all my food and that's how I…
  • I have a Fitbit One, just got it right before New Year's, and I really like it. I honestly thought I was walking a lot more steps throughout the day than it turned out I was. It's good to have a counter. It seems accurate to me, since the count definitely goes up when I have a more active day. I really like how it tracks…
  • Hi, I've gone back to school to be a RN. I'm 40 and am also looking for friends. I'm currently working with hospice patients as a CNA/CHHA. Hopefully I'll start nursing school in August!
