It is very important that you weigh ALL of the food that you eat. Are you doing this? If not, you could actually be overeating and not know it.

I had Lipton soup last night and my sodium for yesterday was way over. I was up 2 lbs. this morning which is what I expected.

Food prep on the weekends. I always cook my lunches in bulk, put it in bowls/baggies, heat it up and it's ready to eat. Preparation is key for me.
-
Bahahaha!!! Exactly!

Losing weight is more impacted by your diet than exercise. Eat in a deficit and you should lose some weight. Make sure you are eating adequate protein in order to help maintain your muscle mass.
-
If you were not weighing your food, you could have been eating above maintenance some days and below other days which could easily result in a recomp. Be happy!! If you did bulk, you would have put on fat along with the muscle. You actually lost fat AND put on muscle at the same time. Good job!!
-
It sounds like this was more of a recomp rather than a bulk. You gained some muscle and lost some fat at the same time. Did you take measurements beforehand? If so, you might weigh the same, but your measurements would likely be smaller.

Darn it!! You beat me to it!

Are you sure your calorie goals are set at the right level?
-
First of all, are you POSITIVE you are only eating 1200 calories a day? People always seem to jump to "you need to eat more". But first, we need to understand whether or not you are actually weighing your food or if you are simply estimating the calories you are consuming. If you are not weighing your food, then you could…

Slowly start increasing your calories. Try 100 calories more for 3 days, then add another 100 for a few more days, etc. You may gain a little while your body adjusts, but eventually it should level out. There is a thread somewhere, I think it's titled "My metabolism reset story" or something like that, that might help!
-
My suggestion would be to get a food scale and weigh your food to make sure your calories are spot on. Second, I would start lifting heavy.

I tried coconut flour this weekend and didn't really like it. I used it to make homemade tortillas. The mild coconut flavor didn't bother me, but the sweetness of it did. I'll probably use the remainder to make cookies or something.

Bumping to see if anyone can shed some light on where exactly to take the hip measurement?

Strength gains and monkeys dancing aside  ...if one is eating in a deficit and is looking to lose fat, is the 5 rep range optimal? I'm not interested so much in strength gains, but in losing fat. Also, if you are eating in a defiict, I would imagine that strength gains will level out at some point?
-
I don't eat only when I'm hungry. I eat the allotted calories that I have planned for that day. Right now I am eating in a deficit, so I am hungry at times. The feeling of being hungry at times is part of losing weight for me. I understand that I am eating at a deficit in order to meet my goals..hunger is just a part of…

Use the nutrition data if they have a website. If they don't, use the nutrition data from another restaurant if I think it might be close. Or just try to break down everything that I'm eating and use my best guest when logging. If someone is having issues with losing and they eat out a lot, I would suggest limiting the…

Wear good shoes when you do it. I started out doing it bare foot and injured my foot. 3 months later and I still have issues on occassion with it swelling and hurting!

^^ Totally agree with this! I do not have a thyroid..does that make me a special snowflake? Nope. Does it mean that I am having to use some trial and error to try to find out what my maintenance level is? Definately! Mine is much lower than all of the calculations say it should be.

My 19 year old son was having a hard time gaining any weight. He finally just started stuffing himself and lifting hard. He went from 150 to 185 in a matter of about 4-5 months. As someone else said, you are in your prime right now. It should be easy for you to gain muscle as long as you are eating enough and lifting…

As someone else said, wear something that flatters your body shape. Also, if I'm wearing something that shows a little more skin, I always use a self-tanner. I tell myself, tan fat looks better than white fat!

I say put on the outfit, take a picture and post it here. Then we can give you a more definitive answer.

I put a single packaged pickle in my daughters stocking this past Christmas! She loves pickles and had a good laugh
