Hey there, Miss Rosie. What you've just described is something we all might experience at some point or other. For some of us, it's happened a lot! It can feel so weird and even scary, because it's as if you're watching yourself as some kind of disembodied out of control thing. It seems to happen after spells when you're…

I have to agree with that last line-- I appreciate "little" delights more now than I ever did when I was younger. So far I love my 40s. Yeah yeah, the body is changing and the mirror has quite the sense of humor sometimes, but it doesn't bother me like I thought I would. Physical changes have not slowed me down although…

You rock, missy.

Thanks for the pointers, y'all. Have spent the past few days reading up, looking up, and messing around with the weights.

This can be frustrating. A couple of thoughts: --The closer you are to your ideal weight range, the longer it takes. If you are already in range and/or don't have that much to lose in the first place, then it's just going to take some time. Especially if you are petite-- maintenance calories and weight loss calories may…

Hahaha! An iPhone app-- I love it! Have you tried it out, and do you recommend it? I am extremely unorganized about all of this and am always trying to cram a work out into my erratic schedule. An iPhone app sounds great!

This is all kinds of excellent! Them parts moved north and rounded out, ha ha. Keep us posted-- let us know whether the squats are different/better/more efficient. Great job!

Yeah, no, I totally appreciate advice from bodybuilders. I see that the subject line I wrote didn't come off right. Should have been something like "Seeking advice for non- bodybuilding women who lift weights." So, regarding the caffeine and vascularity, I thought it was beneficial to have caffeine before a work-out. Is…

That looks like something I can sink my teeth into. And your friend looks so healthy!,

I like the idea of that compound lifts, especially if it's a "best use of time." I don't want to neglect arms and lower legs-- I just already work those and am satisfied. It's my core that I'm struggling with.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I am taking notes and Googling like mad. A couple of specific questions I'll address as replies below...

Dern it. No responses yet. Anyone? Would love some advice.

And P.S. Bill Blass swimsuits will always do you right.

Holy Moses, congratulations on that FABULOUS figure! You look fantastic. I agree that a suit that draws attention to that long slender waist and legs is going to look incredible on you. Board shorts don't sound sexy, but in truth they can be, especially for us gals in our 40s who prefer to be sexy AND dignified. I'd avoid…

I'm in. 42 years old, feeling the excitement over beginning a new weight lifting habit (that I haven't actually--heh--started yet.). Would love to get motivated into action with everyone.

I like that. I could do those at lunch in a closed conference room when no one's around!

Rock it, sista!

Hiphopdisco, if you haven't already, I suggest looking up Lyle McDonald. He has written extensively about ways to allocate calorie partitioning. It gets pretty scientific. Here's a start from his blog: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/calorie-partitioning-part-1.html His methods have to do with cycling the way…

OK, I'll bump this thread. I have these DVDs but got put off by the time investment. Anybody try it out? Is it my best bet for working glutes or are there better approaches like weighted squats or kettle bell swings? If I'm going to work it, I want to get the most bang for my (cough) buck. I'll invest the hour plus 6…

Jumping on the bandwagon! Just figured out how to make my diary public. I'm 5'6, 42 years old, with ~10 lbs to lose. Hoping to improve my fitness habits and would love to have some MFP friends, as I'm pretty new. (Joined for the food diary app on my phone a few months ago-- just discovered the community this week and added…

I think this is good information. However, is it really that simple? I think from a psychology/behaviors standpoint, you deal with things differently at maintenance compared to weight loss. For example, I'll eat the same thing every day at maintenance calories and be fine. But when there's a special occasion I get tripped…
