The model I've seen that has a pedometer which you can translate into miles and tracks calories burned is the BodyMedia line. But, it doesn't track your heart rate. You hook it up to your computer and it connects to the BodyMedia website then it syncs the data from the armband.

Google compound muscle exercises. There is plenty of information out there to get started. Don't bother with isolation exercises yet. Get the most for your effort now by using multiple muscle groups during your lifts.

Weekends are a tough time for many of us. I've had weekends where I gain back (and more) what I lost during the week and it is a tough thing to see. Compound muscle exercises are my entire weight lifting workout. I don't even bother with isolation lifts.

Absolutely ask one of the trainers at your gym for some pointers on squats. Getting the proper form down is extremely important so you don't cause yourself any more pain. There has to be a video or two on Youtube of proper squat techniques and then head over to the squat racks at the gym and just try a few with the bar…
